When I hear the name Mary I think of my sweet aunt Mary Ellen who is 98 now and still going strong. She was the one who sewed up little skirts for me and picked me up for church on Sundays along with her own 4 children. I loved spending time at her house in the country. No indoor plumbing so they had an outhouse and big metal tubs for baths. Precious memories of a loving lady. We often picked mint to make minty sweet tea in the summer.

The special Mary in my life started out as a co-worker and turned out to be like another mother to me. She was stylish, loved fashion and color, and collected pig-themed housewares. People called her the “Silver Tsunami” due to her fabulous mane of silvery-white hair and huge cheerful presence wherever she went. She passed very unexpectedly and I miss her every day but am so thankful to have known and loved her.

The name of “Mary” is actually a very special one to me. I am mum to 3 boys but, had I a little girl, Mary would have been her name. When I began researching my family tree, I found that my Irish grandmother had a little girl named, “Mary Catherine”. Sadly, she died at age 3 in 1934 from a seizure disorder. A very religious woman, my poor grandmother believed that God took her daughter from her to pay for some sin she felt she committed and never spoke of her. The child was buried in an old Catholic cemetery in Florida in an unmarked grave. Three years ago, after many hours of researching, I found her. It was such a bittersweet honor to place a tiny memorial headstone on her gravesite-forgotten no more. I never met my little aunt Mary but I love her and feel oddly so connected to her. Only 1 photograph of her remains and it hangs on a wall near me in my needlework corner. -Kimberly

Your work is amazing! 13 is lucky for me. Both of my sons were born on the 13th and they are amazing men. Mary Margaret is my Mother-in-law and she is 93. She was born in Hull, Yorkshire. She and her husband emigrated to Canada in 1953. I wish you a Merry and safe Christmas and look forward to seeing your flosstube in 2022!

My first granddaughter is Mary Emma (in southern names we always call our sweet ones by their whole names) she has a beautiful shade of minty blue eyes. This December she turned 19 years old. I am so excited for her adult outlooks and her lovely disposition. Mary Emma was named for her great grandmothers,,(Malissa Eleanor on her Dad’s side and Mary Emma on her mom’s side). Thank you so much for the gingerbread patterns…definitely a favorite of mine.

Merry Christmas Christina, congratulations on your flosstube-anniversary. I have enjoyed all of them. I do enjoy seeing your archival needlework as well. I get so many ideas from your creative finishing techniques. Thank you for all you do for our stitching community including your generous free charts. Love the color of that minty fabric and the freebie you designed on it. Surprisingly I have no family member named Mary especially since I was born in the early 1950's. Have a healthy holiday season with wonderful memories to cherish.

Congratulations on your floss tube anniversary. I have known several Mary's, but the most importunate to me was my mother-in-law, Mary King. She was the most loving and nonjudgmental person I have ever met, and I miss her.

There is not a Mary in my family. However I have a good friend named Mary who married very young and I did and we have been good quilting friends for years. So funny as I am still dark haired at 70 and she has been gray since she was 30. We both are also lucky to have our Mother's still alive and in our lives.

Congrats to you AND to us on your 1 year anniversary...we've been blessed all year as you've invited us into your stitching world. We are better people and stitchers because of it. Thank you! Merry Christmas!

Congratulations on your one year anniversary! I have enjoyed all of your videos throughout the year. You have some beautiful charts/stitching! And, the ornament you did for April is stunning! I love doing samplers! The Mary samplers are all gorgeous. My mother’s name was Mary. She passed away four years ago and it forever changed my world! There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of her and miss her so much. The minty fabric is such a pretty shade! It would look nice in some Spring stitching, too! The gingerbread man is adorable.

So wonderful to see you back for another video as I enjoy them so much. Michelle does such an amazing job when she dyes her fabric so I am sure you will really enjoy using the ones she sent to you. Loved to see all your Christmas ornaments. You simply do amazing finishing on them, beads or not. My sister in law is called Mary and although I had already been taught various forms of embroidery by various family members, including my grandfather, I did not understand about "counted" cross stitch and had only done the kind on pre-printed fabric. She explained it to me and that, as they say, opened the flood gates. That was about 35 years ago and I have never looked back. I wish you and your family a very Happy Christmas and a new year filled with healthy, happiness and joy. Cheers from Canada.

Congratulations on your anniversary. You showed some very lovely things. I remember, as a very new stitcher, going to a show in Sheffield where one of the stands was all Lavender and Lace and Butternut Road. I was enchanted. They were way out of my limited stitching experience but what a treat to see them all. The one your mum stitched is a beauty. I don’t think I have ever personally known a Mary or a Minty either come to that. Please, please please make Mary Smalthwaite your charting priority for 2022. The verse is beautiful and I need it bad. Happy Christmas. Margaret

I'm cheating a little because strangely shocking I don't have a Mary directly in my life and never have. I know so weird! However, my Grandmother's name was Marie. Grandma lived in Buffalo NY and I lived in a small town in Ontario about 6 hours away so I saw her only once a year shortly after Christmas and every time we had to play the card game War. She just loved it and it made it her so happy. Congratulations and Merry Christmas!!!

Of course! New patterns coming to fill up my walls! I do have a blank 15 ft hallway wall ready and waiting for more. But you know I will stitch anything you produce. 😃 My grandmother Mary Levian Howard was a spunky 4 ft nothing red head who became a 3rd grade school teacher after the early death of my grandfather. She never remarried but traveled the world until her mother came to live with her in her old age. I learned to knit from her. Technically she wasn’t a Mary as here in the south double barreled names are common. She was Mary Levian, said in one mouthful.

My Great Grandmother was Mary Irene and she lived to a good age, long enough for her to enjoy being a Great Great Grandmother to my son. It’s hot and humid here in Australia at present so while I am catching up with the Flossie’s I missed over the holidays I’m enjoying a nice cool minty drink. Happy New Year, all the best for a fantastic 2022.

I enjoyed watching your latest flosstube Christina. I love the minty fabric. My name is Mary but I am the 3rd generation of my family with this name. I have an Aunty Mary and had a great Aunty Mary who has sadly passed away. All on my Mam's side of our family, my Great aunty was an incredible lady so full of fun and is missed by all of us. ❤

My grandmothers sister was called Mary and she married a Joseph! We loved this aspect as children especially as they were very religious. Hazels minty fabric is beautiful and I’d love to stitch on it. Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary 💗 Ps I love the two new Mary samplers and can’t wait for them to be available

Our historic family sampler, as yet uncharted, is Mary Pashley 1839. It’s in New Zealand but will soon be back in Australia. A very well traveled sampler.

I love the Minty Fabric. Your ornaments are so lovely. Mary is a very special name in my family. Mary was my mother's name, and every female in my family for generations has Mary in their name either first or middle name. Enjoy your Christmas.

Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary! I started stitching a year ago and your flosstube was one of my first. You haver really inspired me. Looking forward to stitching along with you in 2022. I have two of your charts started and hope to have more in my plans for this coming year. Love your new gingerbread chart. All three ways you have finished are so cutie. Will be adding to my list for ornaments to stitch. Michelle's fabric is beautiful! I hope she starts to sell her fabric also. Mary is the name of both of my grandmothers and my mother-in-law. Would love to stitch a sampler in honor of each of them. I am not sure how to search for historical samplers? My maternal grandmother's family was from Ireland with the last name "Bryne". Not quite sure how to start looking for a sampler but am going to try. Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

I had an Aunt Mary, one of the sweetest and kind people you could ever meet. I am almost finished with Let it Snow, just a few snowflakes left. I am doing the long version but would love to to do the other version on the minty fabric. Happy Holidays to you & yours.

My Aunt Mary and I were very close and Christmas was her favorite holiday. Every Christmas I reminisce the times we spent together. Minty candies are a favorite of mine. The snowflake design is pretty on minty fabric. Merry Christmas to you and your Family.🌲🌲🌲

It's hard to believe it has only been a year that you started flosstube. Congratulations on you 1 year anniversary. Love your gingerbread chart. I don't really have any Mary' s in my life except for a previous co-worker; however, when I think of Mary as a name I always think of Mary mother of Jesus. Love the verse on your Mary Smalthwaite sampler. It will be a minty day if and when you release her. Hoping you are having a merry Christmas.

My favourite Mary in my life is my mum whose name is Marianne but as a child she was nicknamed Marie (the German form of Mary). I have not seen her and my dad in person since the summer of 2020 due to travel restrictions. Your video was very cheery as always. :) Thank you.

Happy Holidays! Congratulations on one year of great flosstube videos! Your ornament collection is precious, I really enjoyed seeing the creativity and love put into each one. Each Christmas my mother in-law used to make an egg white and sugar cookie with green food coloring and a minty flavor with chocolate chips added. 😇

Your finishes are absolutely inspiring! My most favorite Mary that comes to mind is a resident in a Nursing Home where I onced worked. She was a real spitfire...a former music teacher at Carnegie Hall in NYC...a member of our resident choir ... she lived to be over 100 years of age. Would love to stitch a Mary in her honor.
