What a helpful idea to put different fabric colors next to Vintage Country Mocha! Thank you! Nicola Parkman of HATS brought the Z lamp to the attention of the cross stitch world, and it is nice to see how many are finding it so helpful. Also appreciated the review of the needles and scissors. Something to think about. Glad the Potoky company is still able to get their needlework stands out of Ukraine. Have a good couple of weeks!

I was so surprised to hear you say my name and bring up my question about your dmc box and organization. Your answer has helped me. I am inclined to organize by color but by looking at the dmc chart and pulling the floss by number is working. I have an IOU list I keep in the top of the box. I love your red leather boxes. I was fortunate enough to find a vintage red leather travel jewelry case on Etsy. Your Hannah Campbell is beautiful. I was torn between it and Maria Ewin but I chose Maria. It is my first Hands Across the Sea.

Karen! You are a pleasure to listen to and so informative! I have learned a lot from your video. I have a hard time with a smaller count. I’m looking at different glasses and lights. 36ct seems to be hard enough for me. I recently had back surgery as they put a implant in. I’m hoping for improvement! Thankyou so much again. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Hi Sue! So glad you enjoyed the video and hope you heal quickly from your back surgery. I’ve had good success with the higher power reading glasses. I have several different strengths and sometimes switch between them. The halo light I talk about in the video has also been a big help for me. Most often I use the light, but sometimes I add the magnification lens to help me see. I found it to be quite helpful. I put the links to both in the description so you can look them over. Thanks again for your nice note, I really appreciate it

Hi Karen! How pleasant to see you again. Congrats on the fun trip! It's so helpful when you hold up the linens to compare colors. Do you have any blue linens you could do this with? I want to make the Holland Springtime chatelaine and I'm finding few blue colors available in the "fat half" size. Of course one never knows what it really looks like in person...between the camera changing the color and one's computer monitor, etc. But your comparison does help a lot.
@karencombsstudio
@karencombsstudio 11 месяцев назад
Hi Kim! So glad you enjoyed the video. You are right, the camera does tend to change the color. You have to find that perfect spot and then hope it shows directly. So glad you enjoyed the comparison. I find holding a familiar color next to the new color also helps me as well. I don’t have much blue. Will have to take a look. If I do, I will show it next time. I wonder if Under the Sea fabrics will have some good blues. I think I saw some at Cecilia’s. . . . Thanks so much nice note. 😂

Wonderful job, Karen! I’m so happy to have come across you! As a quilter & basically a new cross stitcher (the tiny bit of Aida stitching I did in the 80’s really doesn’t count) I’d love to hear your tips on advancing in linen count. Hi Karen. I too think that it's up to you whether you iron your projects. Do you. As far as stopping from working on higher counts - it's the thread availability. I live in NZ, so anything overdyed or interesting has to come from overseas. I cannot really convert my soie d'alger or DMC to 100.3 or soie surfine, as there are no conversion tables for them, and I cannot see an appropriate picture on a screen to purchase accurate colours. I'm about to start Catherine Metcalfe on 40 count, and as she is mainly over one, I shall resort to converting the DMC to nylon sewing threads. I've done it before!
@karencombsstudio
@karencombsstudio 11 месяцев назад
You are right about the availability. It’s a little better than it was last year, but supply chain issues are still an issue. Sometimes The Attic, Needle in a Haystack or Hobby House will offer a silk conversion. I’m sure there are some others For Hannah Campbell, I joined the Facebook Group (HATS Hannah Campbell - SAL). Cathe Rae posted a conversion for the over one from Soi D’Alger to 100.3 to Surfine. I contacted Needle in a Haystack to order. It is back-ordered, but hopefully it will be in within a month or so. Hoop and Frame also had several options for thread kits for Hannah. I’m so sorry about the difficulty getting hand-dyed linen for you. I have ordered a few items directly from the dyers a few times. Even coming from overseas, the shipping was fairly reasonable (compared to US shipping costs) and it came in fairly quickly. Your option of converting from DMC to other thread sounds like a good solution and very creative. Well done! Thanks so much for your note. I appreciate all the information you shared.

I’m still stitching on Aida, have some beautiful charts that need to be stitched in higher counts. So I bought a couple of different fabrics a 28 count and 32 count. But I’m terrified to start. I have no idea how, have watched some vids but explanation has not been easy for me to follow. Would love if you touch in this with a demo in the future. Questions: How do you organize your threads in your DMC box? Is it by number or color groups? I received my box a week ago. It came in three days although I ordered it from the French wesite. What are the four red boxes that are on top? They look like Cohana boxes. I wanted a red Cohana box for my stitching travel case but I settled for a vintage leather jewelry box instead. Debora Carrol, you and I live so close. I hope we can meet someday at a retreat,here in the South. My husband and I have talked about taking short trips too. Our plan is to go to Padukah, Ky to the quilt museum.. Jan 2020 we went to the Biltmore Estate. The Downton Abbey exhibit was there.
@karencombsstudio
@karencombsstudio 11 месяцев назад
Hi Ann, thanks so much for your comment. I’ve organized my DMC threads by number. I find, at least for me, it makes finding the thread easier. The red cases on top of the DMC cabinet . . . the two on the left are Hand and Lock cases and the two on the right are Leatherology cases. You will enjoy the Quilt Museum in Paducah. It’s excellent. If you are in Paducah, you won’t be too far from the new Color and Cotton shop outside St. Louis. Debora Carroll visited there in May and made a FlossTube about it. 🙂

Hi Susan, so glad you are enjoying the videos and thanks so much for your nice comment! The 100.3 silks I mentioned are by Au Ver A Soie. Here in the US; Hobby House, The Attic, Needle in a Haystack, Hoop and Frame, 123 Stitch carry this brand. I’m sure there are others ( Traditions Stitches in Canada also has them, I believe) Here is a link to the silk at 123 Stitch. It may help you as you search in the UK www.123stitch.com/item/Au-Ver-A-Soie-Soie-1003-523/SMS-523 I hope this is helpful. Thanks again for your note. Thanks so much, so glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for your nice note. 🙂 I use a wool pressing mat on my ironing board, so the heat reflects back to the bottom of my work. I use a dry, hot iron ( set on the cotton or linen setting). My iron is older. I think it is a Rowenta, but will have to check. I also lightly mist my piece with Best Press before I iron.
