Love the red sampler and the story! plus having the mother's sampler too, that's awesome! Love the under the bed pieces! I stitched a ton of precious moments, gave them all away as gifts. What a privilege to have mother and daughter samplers- they’re lovely. Pat Rogers’s Antique Alphabet was the first sampler I stitched - mine was done in 1995, you’re right, they don’t date, and I particularly like the swag of flowers on that sampler. I love seeing your work. And the original samplers and that you research the families. How lovely. I bought Sarah Watson 1859 and Florence May Piggen. I am brand new to stitching. I hope I can learn. Not done any cross stitch ever. Just stitched Temari this past year. I found your channel and work from watching Brenda and Laura. I was thinking about your Santa and not fitting in the spool, that it may be to short. Maybe you can get a large diameter dowel rod and cut it down, and use 2 wooden toy wheels one for either end of the dowel , then paint any color you like. Just a thought. Ellen

The Piggin Family are a delight, I laughted that Lucy cut the fabric so people didn't know how old she was! Loved hearing about the history of the Piggin family thid time, Braintree isnt that far from me 🙂 like you said at the end of the video its amazing to think these girls samplers are being stitched all over again hundreds of years later....and what lovely work they produced at such young ages!

Thirza is so sweet! And a very quick stitch. I find the samplers in many different places...flea markets, antique shops, online auctions and auction houses. I'm very fortunate to have an auction house a few miles down the road. No need to pay postage! 😁

Of course, Robin! The red in the HOD ornament is Cherry Wine from Classic Colorworks. The red in my Prairie Schooler is Cottage Garden Thread (from Australia) ‘Hugs & Kisses’. Apologies - I should have mentioned this in the video. I do have show notes, but barely look at them! 🤣
Question for you, because I am always fascinated when people own samplers that family members stitched, did you obtain Florence's and her mom's sampler at the same time? Or did you buy one of them and then do some research to try to find the other? I would assume they'd come as a package deal, but you never know! -Kyle

Hi Carmen, I find my samplers in many different places! Online auctions, antique markets, antique shops, auction houses (I have an auction house very close to my home!). Research depends greatly on what clues the stitcher has given. A stitched place name is always very handy! An unusual name makes things SO much easier! I have even found clues on the reverse of the frame, for instance. My Emily Harben sampler was framed in the town that she grew up in, so that definitely helped with the research!
I have a question. Is it wrong/frowned upon to replace the stitchers name that is on a chart with one of my ancestors/families name for my home? Or is it better to find another type of chart for me to do this? Thank you. LOVE your videos.
