Thank you, this is well done! Besides the useful content & animation, you took the time & effort to put in *actual* closed-captions (rather than just often inaccurate 'computer-generated' ones), and you thoughtfully put in a 'table-of-contents' to jump to specific places in your video! And by using the term 'cistern' (which I think are enlargements of the sub-arachnoiod space?), it may help me to figure out what a speaker in another video which did *not* have actual closed-captions may have been saying. Kudos!

my guess is cohesion. kind of like water+minerals through a plant stem. I came to the comment section to ask the same question. as more csf gets pumped in, more leaves and gets pushed upwards back to the top (again, my guess)

So, any idea on how to get prompt medical help on the NHS after being diagnosed with a CSF leak? I have a hole in my dura and am fighting every step of the way to be heard and hopefully fixed. Where are the specialists? How do I get in touch with the right people? When leaking csf...you dont really have time for waiting lists.
@theseventh5204
@theseventh5204 Год назад
@THE matrix I kept going to Accident and Emergency until they gave me an MRI which showed Intracranial Hypotension, evidence of a leak. They then gave me an epidural blood patch which helped alot. I'm still not fixed though and only have about 3 hours upright time a day. My neurologist has referred me to a csf leak specialist in London who looked at my scans and is apparently ordering more scans to be done locally. I'm still just waiting.
@theseventh5204
@theseventh5204 Год назад
@THE matrix After 3 hours I start getting a burning head pain around the back of my head. It gets worse and worse until I lie down. It goes away when lying down. It's called 'Spontaneous intracranial hypotension' because it's spontaneous. It happens out of nowhere.
@theseventh5204
@theseventh5204 Год назад
@THE matrix A spinal csf leak can cause your sinuses to run but it only effects 5 in 100,000 people. You might just have non-allergic rhinitis or a sinus infection that's causing the headache with runny nose and need a spray from your doctor. Csf leaks are very rare so it would be very unlikely that you have one. Make an appointment with your Dr so they can start investigations.

@MrAmericanaSam
@MrAmericanaSam 5 лет назад
So what causes the flow? Pressure from the choroid plexi? Is there cilia or micro villi involved? Are there peristaltic contractions?
@bristolneuroscientists1094
@bristolneuroscientists1094 5 лет назад
the choroid plexus actively transports ions such as sodium and potassium into the ventricles - water will follow due to osmosis. Some of the fluid is absorbed by the brain while the veins and sinuses are quite porous, allowing fluid to drain into them. This creates the flow.

@izzahfarhana7434

@@graemegeorgeharrison2468 There are a few tests that we can run for that. But that can only be done at the hospital and under supervision by professionals. Have you considered going to the emergency for your symptoms? A thorough clinical examination must be done to rule out many possible diseases that could affect you. But you must trust the process and get proper professional help that are leaning towards medical help instead of psychiatric help.

but what is the 'pump' that pushes the fluid? Similar to heart to pump blood ... what pumps the cerebrospinal fluid?
@bristolneuroscientists1094
@bristolneuroscientists1094 11 месяцев назад
Flow of CSF is determined by hydrostatic pressure from fluid entering the ventricles from the blood supply and leaving by draining into sinuses at the arachnoid villi. CSF is produced continuously from the choroid plexus, which pumps solutes across ependymal cell membranes and so water from the blood follows. That increases hydrostatic pressure, which forces the water out to the sinuses and so to the veins. The veins themselves are also quite porous so fluid drains into them directly as well. So, fluid flows from the arterial supply to the venous supply, just like in the blood stream

Ah - but how does the spinal fluid get from the sacral bulb back to the brain against gravity ? The craniosacral pump and micromovements of the cranial bones - powered by breathing. Inhale - occiput moves outward, sacrum moves inward toward belly button. Exhale - the opposite happens. Read the exquisite, detailed volume : Chiropractic : The Anatomy and Physiology of SacroOccipital Technique by Jonathan Howat.

If I were to build a human body I would start with the abdomen then stretch outward as the success of my structure got stronger and stronger. The computer which controlled everything would be amongst the last attributes made necessary by all the add-ons like arms, legs, lungs, and heart, which became necessary as the thing got bigger and better. One vital part of the abdomen would prove very useful in all extended parts...a fluid...that can reach everywhere...can flush out all stale fluids and can refresh itself as we went. A fluid that could pass up the spine and act as the raw material behind CSF. We will call it lymph for now...but it requires strong Biblical guidance.
