Hello Sarah, I have only just discovered your channel, just after setting up my first season as a flower farmer in the Dordogne in France. How I long for those British grey skies! The weather here is very extreme, with two winter months at -8C, a heatwave up to 40C in May broken by thunderstorms which can generate violent gusts of wind and hailstones as large as tennis balls. I have just started selling flowers; I have zinnias, snapdragons, rudbeickia, nigella, sweetpeas, dahlias, red basil, cosmos, anemone amongst other things. Thank you for sharing your expertise and bon courage!

You are a busy girl, don't worry about how far and few between videos you get out, we all know you have important work to get done. With that said, the bouquets for the honest box are beautiful.

Love your honesty! And so encouraging that even a more experienced grower can have ‘failures’… I’ve had dreadful ranunculus particularly. But I don’t sell my flowers…just a few for fun. And for our village show.

Great tour :) I love how you share all your highs and lows, musings and wonderings, hits and misses: a real flower farming experience! I haven't had success growing Nigella, either. I wonder if my issue is planting too late, and am planning to sow direct in late summer/autumn next year. Did you do anything differently this season?
@bloomandgray
@bloomandgray 3 года назад
I’m glad you appreciate the reality! I sowed it into open trays rather than into cell trays but Other than that I didn’t do anything differently!

New subscriber here - your channel looks good! Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season goes. I'm in Australia, so it's winter down here, but i'll be having my first season as a grower later this year into 2022. Have a great summer!

I grew it in my first year of farming but the bulbs are relatively expensive and they are quite structural, something that doesn’t always suit the type of bouquets I am making

Some of the flowers you presented in your video I am not familiar with. If they are not in flower, it would be great if you could show a pic of what the flowers look like.

Great video again, thank you. I noticed you grow the lambs ears which are lovely but have you ever grown Lychnis (Rose Campion), I was given a small plant a couple of years ago and I’ve grown it ever since and completely love it, both the magenta and white variety. I just wonder if they would be any good for a flower arrangement. Plus it spreads so free plants for friends and neighbours too.
@bloomandgray
@bloomandgray 3 года назад
I actually sowed lychnis this year.. I think I must have the plants in a tray somewhere! I will have to have a look for it 😂
@hilshils3426

Yes I like lychnis too, for the soft white foliage and the zingy pink or lovely white daisy type flowers.
