Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Miguel Cotto fought on May 5, 2012, in a highly anticipated boxing match. Mayweather won the bout via unanimous decision, with judges scoring the fight 117-111, 117-111, and 118-110 in his favor.
Mayweather dominated the early rounds of the fight, using his superior speed and movement to keep Cotto at bay. Cotto, a strong and experienced fighter, was able to land some punches and win a few rounds, but Mayweather's defense and counter-punching proved too much for him to handle.
As the fight wore on, Mayweather began to take control, landing crisp shots and avoiding Cotto's attacks. In the later rounds, Cotto tried to mount a comeback, but Mayweather was able to weather the storm and hold on for the victory.
The fight was an exciting display of boxing skills from both fighters, but ultimately Mayweather's speed, accuracy, and ring IQ proved too much for Cotto to overcome.

para nada, esa pelea es uno de tantos fraudes de Mayweather, Cotto se quedaba inmóvil para que le pegaran y solo algunos rounds en los que se movió y movía la cintura ahí se notó que Mayweather es un globo, está inflado, ni veía los golpes de Cotto, no solo el jab, sino todos. Cotto movía muy bien la cintura, tiene esgrima y variedad de golpes, en una pelea normal Cotto hasta lo habría noqueado en menos de 10 rounds. Well, a fast hard jab is just about the only thing that gets through Floyds shoulder role. Oscar, who had one of best jabs ever; also had some success against Floyd until he ran out of steam.

Nadie dice que Mayweather no sea rápido para lanzar golpes o que no tire muchos golpes en secuencia, pero si como en el caso de Cotto su oponente es de buena cintura y camina bien en el ring nada más no puede con él, y así fue siempre, incluso su papá hacía el oso cuando le pusieron oponentes así. Cotto movió la cintura, la cabeza y combinó a Mayweather y este salió lastimado, pero de forma inexplicable de repente Cotto se quedó ahí quieto para recibir todos los golpes de Mayweather. JC Chávez no lanzaba el jab, así como dices, y Roger Mayweather fue dos veces noqueado por Chávez.

@@donporongon Are you serious? A media construction? You do realize that the media did not face any of the 50 fighters Floyd beat without ever being knocked down. You bring up Cotto, but ultimately he lost even though he had some success. And that success was with the jab. The only other thing that could give Floyd trouble was if a fighter could throw 75 punches a round. Floyd can get comfortable playing defense and can be outworked here and there as was case with Maidana. Only problem is that you will eat a lot of clean leather doing this and that is hard to do. Maidana also showed how overhand right can also land on floyd as he can not lean away from it or roll it. As for Roger Mayweather, you cant compare him to Floyd as Roger didnt really fight like floyd and didnt use shoukder roll. Last, really cool that we can talk in different languages and have translated.

I scored it a draw live. Still looks like Cotto had his man on the ropes landing combos to the body and head + thudding jabs consistently. Floyd barely earned himself a draw by hurting him in the last round to me at the time. If I scored it again, I bet there is a good chance I'd score it for Cotto. They robbed us of seeing this weird little mouthy man lose a handful of times, a shame

I wanted Cotto to win being Puerto Rican but Money May just chopped away at Cotto like an axe to a tree until he wore Cotto out. Cotto dropped his head too much, vulnerable to uppercuts. Floyd is just a surgeon at boxing, but I enjoyed this fight, still got love for Cotto of course.

You guys don’t seem to understand that Cotto was signed to top rank before the Mayweather fight. The only reason he got the Floyd fight was because Cotto was a free agent and went to Golden Boy. Floyd didn’t fight top-rank promoted fighters because top-rank is owned by Arum, whom Floyd hated and despised. That’s why Floyd never fought top-rank fighters when he left top-rank promotions himself. He wasn’t going to do business with his enemy cmon.

Some people don't know this, but Cotto actually fights in the Orthodox stance with his power hand forward. He's a lefty that fights in Orthodox. So that means any lead left hook that he landed or even jab was done with the power hand. Floyd struggled a bit with that, His style is more situated. The shoulder roll style is more situated against right hands. Not power forward. Left hands in the Orthodox stance, but was able to make coto miss enough to outpoint him.

This is why I hate casual fans that try to argue that Floyd was just this dancer who did nothing but run around the ring. Floyd dosnt waste movement and can be slippery in the pocket only using his legs to bail himself out in sticky situations. Floyd was actually a fairly rough and physically strong fighter if you pay attention.

Cause he was determined and never allowed his personal life interfere with his business. He always had the right mindset and prepare for each fight. Mike Tyson could of done the same if he kept all his focus on boxing and not fucking Japanese women and getting high the night before a fight. Ali could of done the same but the government and Parkinson’s robbed him of his prime years. All the greats could of done it if they had their mind right. Floyd was the first great to do.

nuthuger....Floyd barely won....what part of the fight he dominated? cotto dominated all rounds except the last...who was bleeding profusely in this fight ....cotto was unscathed while floyd was trickling lots of blood in his nose and was clearly hurt....Pacqiao couln't even hurt Floyd during their fight ...clearly cotto hurt floyd....cotto took all floyds weak power shots w/o xylocane floyd would be crying in pain with his brittle little hands....floyd won by a thin margin by judges...

Floyd won the fight for sure, but this was a real tough fight for him. Cotto's jab was giving him a lot of trouble and he was getting tagged more than i had ever seen before. I even say Floyd on my than one occasion, nod his head and smile after getting tagged by Cotto as if to say 'you got me'. I have never saw Floyd do this before

A lot of people who do not follow boxing or weren’t alive yet don’t know something. This fight between Mayweather and Cotto was supposed to happen years before it did. At that time Cotto was undefeated and was the rising star out of Puerto Rico. Mayweather was still establishing himself as the ‘draw’. Oh, and Cotto was crushing his opponents-important fact. The fight never materialized. Would anyone be brave enough to guess as to which one of the two bowed out and took the path of least resistance? Of course you can-Mayweather. Why fight a man who can beat you? Why fight a man if you don’t have to? At that time Cotto was in his early 20’s and hadn’t been beaten yet and Mayweather didn’t want anything to do with someone dangerous, so he waited until Cotto was older and battle worn.

No and NO. There is nothing of Roy Jones in Mayweather. Jones was 10 times better and for at least a decade in his PRIME, his fights were not even remotely competitive. His fights were literally like watching a super hero fight a mere mortal. Jones was doing the kinds of things that you just don't see from fighters. Even the most elite. He was also an extremely hard puncher with either hand. There is absolutely nothing remotely similar about these two fighters.

Throughout the history of boxing we have seen outstanding fighters from Archie Moore, to Ray Robinson, Joe Louis, Roberto Duran, Willie Pep, Ali and sp forth. There have been plenty of technical boxers who had better fundamentals than Roy Jones but there has not been a single one who possessed the ASTOUNDINGLY, almost supernatural, freakishly gifted physical gifts that Jones possessed. Not ONE. Roy was unnaturally fast, had SUPERB HAND AND FOOT coordination, BALANCE, mongoose type reflexes, a good chin ( you don't go an entire DECADE fighting such a variety of fighters from Middleweight up to heavyweight and have a weak chin) and unfathomable power. This is unusual because normally stylish Stick and move boxers don't have legitimate SHOCK power punching ability. Only Ray Robinson and Roy did. They could knock a man out with one punch if necessary. I referred to Roy as the "dancing slugger ". He was knocking opponents out going BACKWARDS. For an entire decade Jones was The boxing version of the comic book character Super Man. People tuned in just to see how dominant and show stopping Roy was going to be. In ten years Roy may have lost a total of 6 to 8 rounds? And he did it over 4 weight classes. And unlike Mayweather, Roy Fought TOP TIER P4P BLACK FIGHTERS IN THEIR PRIMES. No steady diet of flat footed, mediocre, b- level latino fighters who had a name and a large following but nothing else, as Mayweather did when he became a pay per view star. Roy didn't discriminate or feel threatened by anyone's style. He took on all comers and even though he had his share of tomatoe cans like every other fighter, he has some Hall of Famers on his resume who were in THEIR LEGITIMATE PRIMES when he beat them. James Tony, Bernard Hopkins, two of the most technically skilled fighters to ever grace a ring and Jones took them to school. Mayweather would never dare to fight a high IQ, TOUGH, versatile elite level black fighter in their prime when he came back and became a Star. Not ONE black fighter though they were available and willing to fight, was considered. He didn't want to take that chance and possibly lose which could have happened or at the very least be made to look human and less than spectacular if he had fought Spence, Kellbrook, Porter, Thurman, Bradley, Winky Wright who he called out and then ducked. .... Again no 2 fighters could be more different.

Mayweather was a master at fighting guys either before their primes or after. Perfect examples, Canelo was 22 years old and not ready for a fight like that and, Manny PACman was at least 3 years past his prime. Not to say either guy would have beat Floyd (probably not) but it goes to show Floyd had smart representation and got good advice. Floyd might be the only boxer in history to never be in a good fight. That goes to show you how good Floyd was. Imagine, 40 fights and basically none of them were close.

Absolutely. Pretty much all of his big fights (that I remember) were like that. But it's not unique to Floyd. To a lesser extent, Manny also fought Cotto post-Margarito I (I think the amount of damage boxers suffer from a beating like that is very underestimated. They are never the same, physically or mentally). Careful, borderline insidious matching-making has always been a part of the game: even Leonard basically pounced on Durán mere months after their first fight, orchestrating a rematch when the latter had let himself go beyond recognition. Pretty much all of them do it, and PBF's list of victims seems a bit more obvious. But that's not to say Floyd is a "paper tiger." After all, he's ONE of the best ever ("OOTBE" if you will). So I would not go as far as saying any of them would've readily beaten him had they been "prime 100%."
