Reviewing the cheapest stainless steel woodstove (tent stove) on Amazon. This unit currently sells for $120 at time of posting and includes chimney pipe and cap. In this video, we'll unbox, assemble, start a test fire and attempt to boil some water. This stove will be going into a 10 ft. white duck regatta canvas bell tent. Feel free to leave questions if i missed anything! Enjoy!

The chimney pipe is right. If snow or rain gets in there it won’t lead on the outside of the pipe that way. Your way will make a mess.

Thanks, good to know. I never thought about it that way. Looking at the pipe on the stove in my house, I see it's set up the same way.
@kijola
@kijola 9 месяцев назад
Also prevents creosote drip and potential fires outside the piping because of said creosote drip... If the bell ends are the other way the creosote like potential rain water can drip out of the chimney and self ignite on the outside of the chimney..@@NorthwoodsNoise

@@kijolathis. I switched my cheap stoves pipes to be like this. Present creosote drip. As well the stove I use has looser fit pipes and didn’t leak. I’ve since welded three lower section solid so no smoke concerns. However I’ve got a stove addiction and will be purchasing this one before buying my “expensive” one. I’m eyeing the Pomoly Dweller Max 3. I think the offset wider stove would yield me more room and functionality of my tent. With they a smaller stove like this one also would yield more room. So figure give this a go on the cheap. If th size works. That changes my options.

The pipe oriented that way is correct to keep the creosote from leaking all over the outside of the pipe ... that space would be there either way that you orient the pipe , there is a packing material made for that . Poplar and aspen are two different trees btw . Thank you for the video!

I always like to have the Bell on the top of the chimney pipe. That way all the dripping stay inside and reburn rather than drizzling down the outside and smoking up the tent.

Thanks, that makes sense and seems to be the general consensus from what others have commented as well. I never thought about it that way.

@@NorthwoodsNoise female at the top is the English way (the correct way) the rest of Europe does it female down the incorrect way chimneys create a vacuum so won't leak if you see a roll up flue it has a gap all the way along.

A piece of metal window screen rolled and shoved in the cap makes a spark arrestor. Or you can use brass wool

Pipe flares are right. keeps creosote from coming out. That's actually by design.

Interesting. I think I'd be more concerned about that on a more permanent fixture being used at longer intervals.

bingo...creosote gets really messy when it dribbles down the pipe onto the stove. BTW, the draft of the chimney will keep most of the exhaust gas flowing up the pipe efficiently...no worries.

Thanks for the demo. I'm looking for an affordable stove for Vermont winters. This looks suitable for my limited needs. I would order the damper piece, too. I have never owned or operated a tent wood stove. I don't want to haul or buy propane. Which is useless in subzero Temps. I watch the stealth camper Steve Wallis deal with liquefied propane on one of subzero adventures. I have tons of deadfallen wood & good saw. I like the cooking 🍳 option on this small stove.

The chimney pipe is correct exactly the way it's designed to be - "......bell side ." up . If it were the way you were saying you wanted it - bell side down - then the creosote that always builds up and starts as a liquid, will run outside of the chimney and all over your stove. Bell side up and the creosote runs down the inside of the chimney and into the stove. ALL CHIMNEY PIPE GOES TOGETHER WITH THE UPPER PIECE GOING INSIDE THE LOWER PIECE, ALWAYS.
@NorthwoodsNoise
@NorthwoodsNoise 8 месяцев назад
Admittedly, I was wrong about this as I have said in other comments and your reasoning as to why makes perfect sense. However, I've found that "always" is not correct. Ive looked into this because I'm a curious guy, and the majority of woodstoves pre-1975 are collared such that the chimney pipe is oriented in the way I've described in this video. The upper pieces would overlap the lower pieces like shingles on a roof. Havent found out exactly why this is, but It is interesting.

FYI I saw a video where a guy evaluated a tent stove where the bell end was the other way. He said he didn't like it because creosote could drip down. Personally, I think gases and smoke can escape either way, but as long as the tolerances are close, it won't be enough to notice.

If the ribs on the walls were indicative of double walls with interior UPPER vents and exterior LOWER vente the stove would be designed as smokeless and would burn as well as you saw.

i would be more concerned with gasses and smoke leaking out of that cutout on the top of the stove before the chimney sections.

That's a very good point. As long as you've got a good draft I'm sure it's not a concern. As I've learned from the comments here, the pipe is actually designed correctly so theres very little I can complain about given the price point of the stove.

Where can I buy the stove and do any stores sell it? Thanks for showing this .do they all so sell a stove with an oven it it?

I believe this stove is only sold online. I bought this one off amazon, but it may be available on other websites. I'm not sure if the manufacturer makes an oven specifically for this stove, but I think you could make ant generic stove top calling oven work with this setup.

Well its a cheap piece of garbage for one. You might as well spend a little extra money and get something that won't warp on you after a few burns.
@NorthwoodsNoise
@NorthwoodsNoise 9 месяцев назад
@@SenorTowelie interesting. Cheap, definitely. Piece of garbage remains to be seen in my opinion. Is there a stove youd suggest that holds up well to warping and is still lightweight? I built a "tent stove" out of a propane tank that will never warp, but on the other hand it weighs close to 50 lbs and I certainly wouldn't want to pack it along on a trip.
@SenorTowelie
@SenorTowelie 9 месяцев назад
@NorthwoodsNoise I also got a welder to craft me a 30lb tank stove, they are the best. My suggestion in reply to your comment is to get the onetigris roar stove or polomy 304 stainless or a titanium stove if you don't mind dealing with the roll out chimney. A well built 304 will last. Again though, it's hard to find a company making the pipes properly having them go down into each other so the creosote doesn't drip out which was the only thing the stove in your video had going on! I'm still looking for the perfect camping stove that doesn't break the bank. No one has got it perfectly right yet, as far as durability and affordability meeting on a high enough plain to invest in.
