Well DID the material last or not? Let's ask him and see. We can give it a chance. But yes it does look thin, but I'm willing to see how it did. And if he used stuff that he had for free then I say he had a win anyway. But the price of the commercial ones made like this, they are seriously charging several hundred dollars each for basically 10 dollars of parts. :S

This fire pit is one of a few covered pits that is on the list ru-vid.comUgkxAU9pOCSV9Y5JprooHvfxTpOrt4hx8uRM of approved products for Disney Fort Wilderness. The product served its purpose well and provided excellent fires throughout the evening. We were able to open the door and do s'mores, but I had to be careful because the handle was a bit hot on occasions. Additionally, I wish they had replaced some of the standard nuts with lock nuts in some places. We lost the door handle after just a couple of days of usage. Not a deal breaker, just a recommendation. I still give it 5 stars.

I'm glad you apparently appreciate that the humour was good-natured. I lied of course. I have owned woodstoves and have heated with wood for a couple of decades. In the portable realm I own a couple of gasifier wood stoves intended more for cooking in a pot or boiling up tea or coffee. I am impressed by the effort, and I'm also aware of the cost of those carbide cutters. A lot went into this.

Nice idea. Couple of points for the next one, you get more heat out of the stove if you make the smoke 'work'. This means fitting a baffle, parallel to the top of the stove with a downward facing lip on the edge near the door. This increases the residency time of the smoke in the stove allowing more of the wood gas to be burned. Point 2, for good wood fired the air should come in from the side, not underneath. You could remove the mesh you put in the bottom, it's not needed. You want to build up a bed of embers. You may need to put a layer of earth in the bottom of the stove to stop the fire burning through it over time. I really like the idea of a stove build that doesn't need welding. I've built quite a few stoves, some from barrels, some from sheet steel.

Hi There, That's an awesome build. I wonder if I can do the with a double sink commercial kitchen. It is stainless steel as well.

Would you mind sharing the link to where you got the glass? Getting custom cut glass is easy enough at a local store, but i find those stainless steel frames around them really nice and would rather buy those 2 items together. Thanks!

I used to be the master of making a tent stove out of fifty gallon barrel. Sit it upright, cut the opening for the door about 3 inches down from the top, fill it half full of rocks, put the door hinges on the part I cut out and attach back int hole. Cut stove pipe hole, put on stovepipe and viola, w ood stove made in half an hour that one can cook on and will heat the rocks and keep the tent warm all night from the heat of the rocks. It was too heavy and big to take in a skiff, but this one you make is perfect for traveling around with.
