Fluid Film Review After 4 Years. Woolwax vs FF results 1 year later. These are the results that I've gotten using Fluid Film for 4 years now on the same truck. We are also going to go over the results of the testing between Fluid Film and Woolwax after they have both been exposed to the elements for a year. Going forward with this series I will be switching from Fluid Film to Blaster Surface Shield because I have gotten better results with that product in my testing.

The biggest thing that I have found with any of the Lanolin undercoatings is people always want to know what is "best". Your application of the product plays a larger role in it's performance than the coating itself. To me this is like talking about the "best" motor oil. Like motor oil, you can run the "best" oil on the market but you still need to change your oil. If you don't keep up with your maintenance, your motor oil will turn to sludge regardless of the oil that you use. That is how to need to feel about these coatings. Some of these coatings are better than others but, they will all stop rust if they are touched up yearly with and properly maintained. If you want to use Fluid Film go for it. If you want to use Woolwax, do it. Surface Shield creeps and migrates like Fluid Film but will resist wash-off like Woolwax. That is why I'm switching. It doesn't make Fluid Film or Woolwax bad products I have proven that they both can work well. I want to see if Surface Shield can live up to it's claim of going 2 years without a re-coat.

Twenty three years ago I purchased a new Ford Excursion, in the Ohio rust belt. I coated it every 3 years with Fluid Film. Today, at 350,000 miles, it has no rust anywhere. Wish I would’ve taken pictures/video of the process over the years.

I really appreciate these videos. Because it's real proof that these products work. For such a long time it was hard to know what products ACTUALLY worked versus what didn't versus what might actually encourage rust and corrosion (I'm looking at you rubberized coatings that crack...). Largely because of your videos, we bought a spray gun and 5 gallon buckets of fluid film to undercoat our own vehicles (small business and our personal vehicles in Vermont).

Keep up these videos! They're the reason I found this channel. Honestly, the repetition of these videos every year is what makes them valuable. Too many people post videos about spraying the film on, but very few people actually post quality, detailed content about how it holds up and protects the car. Your videos on this topic are extremely valuable to me at least! Thanks

Thank you for doing this. I live in the rust belt. I had a brake line failure due to rust and had to replace the lines on the vehicle. I sprayed the lines on my other vehicle to head off a similar problem. I wish I had seen a video similar to yours 10 years ago. What you are doing has value. People who do this will have less maintenance expense and have greater resale value for a small annual cost. Whether people listen or want to bitch is out of your control...don't worry about it.

Wow, great videos on this. So detailed. I think this is a maintenance thing as well as a product thing. As in absolutely maintaining that film barrier before the salt season. When you have some rust from abrasion or what ever, touch up the paint in that spot. I’m in the market to get a new to me truck. I just ordered a gun and a 5 gal of the surface shield from all of this great info you have provided.

learned of PB blaster IN TEXAS, i just moved there and had to find a machinist real quick,small jobs and turning transmission drums are a must,i also had a set of valuable cylinder heads machined,i asked the machinist what he uses to stop rust on machined surfaces,he said they had tried almost everything till they learned of pb blaster,he said we only use it on cranks,rods and cylinder heads that have been cut and smoothed,he said it is only good for that purpose,out of the rain[direct] and just deals with humidity from texas,oklahoma,and kansas and mo wet air,for rust we used undercoated tar [asphalt in the 50's on] now ziebart and this fluid flim,when i restore one,i don't want to lose it to the elements this rust situation is an ongoing problem with high dollar toys

Honestly after seeing your videos and research on the product it makes the decision on how to protect your investment very clear! I was sceptical at first of the product but I put in a wheel well went through a winter and it’s still there even with the road spray so it’s a durable product even though it appears to be thin like it will just wash off. I found your videos over a year ago when I was starting to buy a 2020 Tacoma. I coated my new truck last year in October with fluid film. This yeah I did it again with fluid film. I used 5 cans on the Tacoma the first time and 4 cans this year. It seemed like some was still on w lot of places high up. That and the Tacoma has a composite bed so I didn't need to spray any of the bed underside. My truck still looks new. I couldn't seem to find surface shield near me so I will continue with it until I can find surface shield.

Uhh, the way you labeled it, the Fluid Film outdoor test metal looks better to me than the Blaster, at least on camera. Great video! Honestly, I think FF, WW, and SS all do the job well and will keep a vehicle rust free if applied at least every 2 years. The videos are great because you are actually testing them long term. I know it feels redundant, but they are not because of the time passing. That's what we all really want to know. How does it do over time? Us FF users put up with a lot of stink using this stuff, so we like seeing that it is worth it!

The Fluid Film looks cleaner color wise but, the top edge is starting to rust. Whenever I do this pole testing the rust always starts at the top and works it way down the test piece. Another fantastic video, hats off to you! .The borescope video is the proof that this works. The tip on those adapters is a great one- I tried, but could not get the 3M wands to stay on the Blaster cans. It's a shame, because the 3M wands are longer and more stiff for working into places the limp Woolwax aerosol can wands cannot. I'm not sure if there's a practical difference compared to Woolwax, but the Blaster's superior creep makes it a great choice for inner cavities. I have a new van and Jeep to protect, but I'm thinking of using the Woolwax and Blaster I have to coat the hidden surfaces, and the more Cosmoline-like CRC Corrosion Inhibitor on exposed areas where it would the treatment would be easier to dislodge. I will probably use the Blaster or Woolwax on rotating masses like the driveshafts/halfshafts where the weight of the waxy CRC could (theoretically) cause a balance issue. One question- the roadside angle iron samples- it looks like the FlluidFilm piece is minimally corroded, but the Blaster piece has a rusty color. Is that just an accumulation of dirt on still-adhering Blaster, and the FluidFilm just washed off along with embedded dirt?
@RepairGeek
@RepairGeek 2 года назад
The blaster product has changed colors in the past 10 months but it's not rusty underneath: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NE1_EiZIVHs.html Yes the FF has mostly washed off from rain and I think partially, the summer heat. In this testing the rust always starts on top like you see with FF and then works it's way down the face.

In the UK there’s a product that was originally named Finnegans Waxoyl. It’s now has changed the name to Hammerite Waxoyl. Same product and can be found on the web using either name. This product kills rust, self heals and drives out any moisture. Spray it into all cavities and crevices. Avoid some plastics and rubbers etc and obviously braking surfaces.

Thanks for the update, I live in Ohio & was wondering if this will be worth using. I will definitely be doing this with the next vehicle.

Great review. I have a couple questions for you. I have been having my vehicles Krown's for the past few years. It has gotten very expensive every year as well as I have 4 vehicles now to get sprayed each year. I plan to purhase the FF sprayer and start using that product. My 2 questions are, in this video, do you only spray these once per year & during the winter, what is your wash process? I typically just wash the body of the vechile and will lightly spray off the underside to get any lose salt off. I assume that will not wash the FF away?

As somebody from actual Southern Ohio hearing Salt Fork Late being considered Southern Ohio is so funny to me. Just thought that was funny. Enjoying the videos!

Interesting. The aerosols for SS are a couple bucks cheaper than FF and WW at home depot and other places. But the gallon of SS is 40 percent more expensive. I bought 5 gallon pail of woolwax last year. Only use about a gallon a year on my truck. I'm gonna use aerosol cans of this SS in the panels and inside doors since it is thinner and creeps better.

Would you recommend applying a rust converter to any visible corrosion before coating ? Thanks

FF is made by a large family owned company in South San Francisco, WoolWax is made by Bob Smith who owns Kellsport Products in Rhode Island. Bob was having trouble getting deliverys from FF, so he went out on his own, and manufactures WW locally, and is a great guy! I prefer woolwax, its thicker and has much less smell

One of the few things i love about living in California is the weather, or lack-there-of. My 2010 Audi S4 has less rust on it even though it's been parked on the street and not my garage for 10 of those 13 years. But I actually came here doing research about dealing with rust on my old man's 1999 Toyota 4runner which became apparent to me while replacing the automatic shifter bushings the other day, and noticed the front control arm end links were snapped and there was quite a bit of rust on everything. I'm gonna get back under it tomorrow to install the new end links and will bring a little ball peen hammer to give everything a few taps to see how bad it really is.
