This was a September 4, 2020 trip out of Montauk, NY aboard the Miss Montauk party boat. This is a popular boat for fluke and with covid going on and the reduced capacity I had to book this about a month in advance to reserve the bow spots. We fished in about 100'-120' all day and the drift was a little slow but that allowed me to fish a 2oz jig at this depth which coupled with my small spinning rods made reeling in these fatties so much fun. We did better than most people on the boat, 1 guy limited and some others got some really big fish, the pool winner was a 9lb'er but many customers didn't even catch any fluke as it was a quality over quanity type of day. I would highly recommend this party boat if your looking for the best chance at getting a double-digit trophy fluke.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend eating sea bass whole like that

Hey, this may be an odd request so if not no worries I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask but... I am relatively new to fishing, about a year in, I have caught some things but have trouble fully understanding the nuances, because I am really going at this solo, learning things online only. That said, I have been watching your videos for a long time now and have over time realized that I live nearby to the bay you fish in, and I was wondering if you might be willing to maybe guide me and teach me. Of course I would pay you for all of your time and trouble. I have a motorized canoe and am self sufficient on that end.. essentially I would just be following you around. Anyway if not, I understand and do appreciate the time you gave reading this. Thanks either way in advance!

Hey there AH, I'm happy to hear you've found some of my vidoes helpful. Its great to hear your getting into fishing and sounds like you really enjoy it so keep at it, takes time, I've been fishing since I was 5 years old probably and I'm still learning every time I go out. There's a lot of great resources online nowadays that never existed years ago. I'm glad you you weren't afraid to ask me about the guiding and its something I may consider down the line but currently I have 2 little kids and a full time job that keep me very busy right now and its a blessing that I even get 1 morning a week to go out and fish myself. Again, thanks for telling me and if you have any specific questions about something you can always email me at pr2fishing@gmail.com and I can try to help you privately.

Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed! Yea I have had both fluke and sea bass sashimi style and your right it’s amazing, some ponzu sauce and wasabi! Just didn’t think to do it this time, will definitely do it on the next one thanks for the reminder!

Great job with the video. I like how you prepare the black seabass. If you want more subscribers, do what most don't do. The one thing everyone what's to know, is the approximate location where these boats are fishing. Distance and any visible land mass? Thanks

You should get some Dramamine for your friend

😆 yea that was my fault, I thought it wasn’t going to be choppy so I told her to only take a half bc it makes her drowsy but the rollers got to her and she should have taken more

Great job out there, what type of setup did you go with to hold bottom with 2 oz?
@PeterRanieriII
@PeterRanieriII 3 года назад
Thanks man, I think the key is trying to get the least amount of drag on your line and lure so I used a single bucktail (tandem rig creates more drag) and cut the hairs off which create drag, and I use 15 or 20 lb braid super slick 8, and it was in good shape (not fraying), and 30lb flouro leader like 4' long. Obviously, it has to be a relatively slower drift, some days I just can't use the light spinning gear this deep, but in comparison people using the boat rods had mono and a double rig and were using 8oz to hold

Peter Ranieri II your so right about that. Ive been out on charter boats and tried to fish with heavy sinkers. No fun at all, there is no jigging going on, better off jigging with bucktails. I may try your technique on my next trip using my tsunami carbon shield II rod with a single bucktail
@PeterRanieriII
@PeterRanieriII 3 года назад
@@brooklynanglerfishing yea exactly, go for it! Just bring a heavier conventional rod/reel as a backup in case the drift/current is too fast, always good to be prepared for all types of conditions.

Hey man you had some great catches this trip! Looked like a beautiful day out. That was a thick fluke that you caught and it’s awesome you got a nice sea bass too! What kind of rod/reel combo were you using out there? I’m looking for a new 3-4K sized reel. Also I feel like there could be some sand in the reel by the way it sounds, or maybe that was just the sound of the braid. Nice video!

Thanks, yea such a beautiful day out there and great to finally get some quality keepers. I use a penn clash 3000 on a 7' st. croix med-fast which i cut off the last eye on the tip so its like 6'-8" or so. That reel is decent but its not amazing and as you noticed there is a slight sound which is mostly the braid but also just not that smooth. My other setup is a shimano CI4+ 3000 with a 6'-6" st. croix med-heavy fast action, and this is my go-to. The CI4+ is so light and has more max drag than the penn, it feels cheap and plasticky but its not. That is the reel I would recommend. I dont know the exact rod models I have but I think i spend around $100-$120 for them

Peter Ranieri II thanks man I appreciate the response. I was just wondering because I was looking for a new reel for my 7’6 st Croix. I was thinking a stradic. Great job out there keep catching them up! 👍

You gotta use a teaser when fishing in mtk
@PeterRanieriII
@PeterRanieriII 3 года назад
I guess so, seems like everybody else does, lol. I find it easier to hold bottom with smaller bucktails since the teaser adds drag. It’s a debatable topic for sure and I’m not anti-teaser, I just like the feel of light as possible tackle

Really think it makes a difference out there? Im also a fan of the single jig, feel like it produces better quality for sure.
