Fluorescence in diamonds is controversial. Garry Holloway has long known and taught industry experts techniques for rejecting bad stones and selecting those with positive effects like better colour.
The latest unpublished (as at August 2020) studies show that clarity is the cause of the bad transparency effects seen some fluorescent diamonds. Types of inclusions that affect transparency become 10 times worse when a diamond has fluorescence.
As to the over color grading issue - that was resolved 20 years ago when GIA changed their lamps and lighting environment for colour grading.
New research validates Garry Holloway's views that in light suitable to observer colour differences there is almost always enough of the visible violet light to boost the colour of fluoro diamonds by 1 to 3 grades.
Holloway diamonds screen out negative inclusion effects in fluorescent diamonds resulting in diamonds that are more affordable and have added colour enhancement value. This is especially true in Australia where our southern hemisphere daylight has more UV and we spend more time outdoors, fluorescence is a wonderful attribute.
