This is great Jimmy👍 Contacted my local lake and lure fishing for pike is not permitted, so I thought I’d swot up on dead baiting as I’ve never tried it, this single hook method really appeals to me and I have a lot of faith in fluorocarbon. Cheers 👌
So great to see!! Keep spreading the word. I've been Pike fishing with single hooks for 10-12 years now and it's fantastic. I would never go back to the hassle of treble hook setups. You've got to try the Circle Hooks if you haven't already. They are now my go to hook and like you I cut the bait up to suit the hook size. The 6/0 to be the biggest I use.
Thanks for checking out the video mate. I love circle hooks for sea fishing. Will try it for pike. I've just uploaded a new pike video using this method and we had a big girl!
I keep thinking about using mackerel sausages using bait elastic and using pennel rigs for long range piking. Having watched this i definitely will be.
@@realjimmywillis no ive only just started using flouro always used wire in the past im not 100% conviced by it yet used it on lures on bought traces but they got roughed up a bit after on fish. For bait fishing think i will stick to 49 strand
jim, i remember a few year's ago mick brown, matt h mate advocating the use of single hook's , ive just bought a single hook catfish rigg very much the same for the same reason. take care jimbo.
I’ve just come across your (this) vid. I thought I was the only one doing this. Instead of fluro ive been using garden strimmer line, it’s not as thick as the fluro but seems pretty bombproof, not had a bite off. Baits also similar, sometimes I struggle to get whole fish so mackerel fillet from supermarket cut to about an inch wide and four inches long and tied on with bait elastic. Fish it under a wine cork set a little under depth so drifts in the wind. Works a treat in the local canal! 👍
I came across this old Mick Brown video , he mentions towards the end that he sometimes fishes a single portion of deadbait as he found that some pike he caught had chunks of the groundbait in their throat - he advises striking quickly as you mentioned ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kHRA3AuTVwQ.html
Good video , use singles myself because where I fish is wild , snaggy and rocky so I always need to use a net , I have caught pike on the very same flouro carbon you used - but on a lure set up , for some reason I haven't had the confidence to use it for deadbait traces -bit daft - not as if lure caught pike are different to deadbait caught - although my thinking was lure caught often don't get to chew on the trace , info on the knot was good - used crimps so far .
