Love the fluting tool path! Thanks a million for showing how it can be used on something other than a cutting board!

Great video, Garrett. 90 seconds into it I was opening one of cutting board files that has a pair of juice grooves and changing the flat channels between them to flutes. Thanks for the inspiration. Back to the video now to see if I need to make more changes to my file :-)

[Edit: Just noticed someone else previously made this comment. Add my vote to that.] Love your videos. Now I have a riddle for you, Batman! To make this work even better, the square grooves should also be fluted so they are at a high point midway between the flutes you made and drop down to meet those flutes. We want *all* the grooves to drain water downwards :)

@@IDCWoodcraft I tried using it today, it worked with one piece. But on a full sheet of parts it didn't raise up after each part, it just followed the tool path at finish depth and sliced through my parts! Weird

a possibly more simple solution that would also deal with drainage in the inner squares aligning correctly with the depth of the drain channels is use something like tinkercad or F360. Both this is a fairly simple easy to make object. Draw the object in 3D, add the drainage in 3D and export the STL. In Vectric import the STL and carve it. This way the drains are all tapered and all at the same level when they cross each other.

@IDCWoodcraft

K9, a fluting toolpath might be the perfect solution for you on this one. Consider doing that toolpath first before making your pocket for the ashtray itself.
