I saw an interview with Arjen he said the first time he met Jeroen was when he was looking for a flute player for one of his projects. Jeroen showed up for the audition with a six foot tall case on wheels. When Arjen asked him what was in the case Jeroen said he wasn't sure exactly what sound Arjen was looking for so he brought an assortment. Flutes, recorders, whistles, clarinets, oboes, panpipes, a bassoon, & a didgeridoo, you know the usual stuff.

Yeah, here in the Electric Castle show version of Valley Of The Queens, which she has already reacted to a different version so maybe not reaction worthy. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NdNmCwHnciI.html I wonder if she recognizes him, I know she's reacted to a video featuring him before. But I'm gonna guess, probably not :D Don't spoil.

This is such a happy experience!!! Look at those singers and musicians!! They are having a blast. So watching this is a blast as well. And attending one of their shows is absolutely mindblowing.

So glad you did this one. I love it. Jeroen is amazing on the flute, Arjen has him doing nearly all his woodwind work - he even plays the Digereedoo live in this concert

Hi there Heline, thank you for this reaction! It is indeed really tricky to hear yourself, but with the in-ear monitoring it is possible, but still tricky and indeed you have to be careful to not overblow and get too high. I think I managed ;-)

Valley of the Queens is from the same album as The Castle Hall (i.e from Into the Electric Castle, 1998). That album was my introduction to Ayreon. My record dealer (anyone remembers those?) thought I might like it and because it had a cast that included Thijs van Leer as well as Fish (Marillion) on it plus a couple of other people I knew, I bought the album. Thijs is a famous Dutch flute player, known e.g. from Focus (you surely remember Hocus Pocus). He played the part on the CD that Jeroen is playing here. In fact he is playing the flute on the other live Ayreon concert of Valley of the Queens, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mpd5bNyOpdw.html. After buying that album I have been a fan ever since. And in a way Arjan introduced me to a large group of fantastic musicians. Now you can just use google and youtube to find good music. At the time Ayreon was a great source (still is). Talking about Source. The Source is a more recent album of Ayreon and the first track, The Day that the World Breaks Down, is the more common introduction of reactors to Ayreon. Arjan is providing his own commentary to the players and singers. Great track on its own ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oFuMKdrzPqU.html . Mike Mills, who did the introduction on Castle Hall also sings on this song and in general blows everyone's mind. Worth watching this song just for him, but all 10 other singers are also amazing, and Jeroen Goossens also play a bit of flute. Day Sixteen: Loser from this same concert is another song where Jeroen plays whistle, starting with another wind instrument, that is not a flute or whistle ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D6riG9RcM0o.html

I like when groups offer more than the typical foursomes. The flute and violin add more texture to the sound. I couldn't see a mic on the flute but I imagine he had an earpiece with just his flute on it. Great reaction! U❤🎶

Thank you Heline for this review, very well explained certainly as far as being able to hear yourself play without some sort of monitor to verify tuning. I confess I've not really heard of Ayreon but will likely check out more of the music. Thank you once again for the review Heline.

The opera Into the Electric Castle has more treasures: Amazing Flight for example.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r5IitoFXc7E.html Have you reacted to this Ayreon suite already? The Barbarian and the Hippie join the scene.. But everyone cheers as the Hippie approaches, for he is played by the maestro Arjen himself... After the beautiful soprano solo by Simone Simons, the rhytm changes into something that reminds very much of the 1970s group Focus. And lo, the flutist is Thijs van Leer, the original member of Focus, who played flute, keys and had a great singing voice. The years have taken their toll, but his flute playing? Judge yourself...

Ayreon quickly became my third favorite band after Pink Floyd and Nightwish. The oo in Goossens is pronounced as the o in motel or in ho ho ho by Santa. This is a song from the Ayreon Universe live concert. There’s also a version from the second live concert, the electric castle live and other tales, with the famous Thijs van Leer (Focus) as flute player. Arjen often uses violin, cello and flute in his music. Both live concerts are epic.

First of all... You won't believe, who the Narrator is. His Name is John De Lamcie. Formerly known as "Q" from Star Trek!❤️ UNBELIEVABLE! That is, because Arjen is a huge Fan of Star Trek. As you can see, when reading the Lyrics on every single Album he has created. Second... What a nice reaction. It was a great pleasure watching your video. I really, really enjoyed it!❤️ And I can't wait for more of this! More Flutes! More Flutes? Ayreon - The Day that the World breaks down I can guarantee you, that this really is something, you have never seen before! And I wish you a lot of Fun, watching it❤️ Take care ❤️

Dear Heline, i really loved this reaction. I assume that nearly all comments have already suggest the song "Amazing Flight" from Ayreon's "Electric Castle live", because there is some more Flute action from Thijs van Leer, the crazy guy from Focus (you've made a reaction video on "Hocus Pocus"), but in case they don't (soooorry, i've not read them all): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r5IitoFXc7E.html

The melodies in this song gave me vibes of Jethro Tull. However, I think the Jeroen may be a better flutist than Ian Anderson. Obviously Ian uses his flute playing in a different way. I think you need to have In-ear monitor systems to be able to properly hear yourself when playing acoustic instruments in an electric amplified environment. Loved your video Heline. BTW, I love your flute playing. It is so beautiful. You are an amazingly talented musician. Be well.

Pronouncing Dutch names is tricky in any other language ;-) Phonetically (in english) his name sounds like "Yuh-ROON GOH-suns", with emphasis on the upper char parts. Where 'ROON' sounds like 'to'.
