You mentioned it was a bigger bow than a violin bow. Possibly a Cello bow? Anyway this was a great performance by Heart and I agree, Ann Wilson plays the flute very well. This is a surprisingly rare video of her playing the flute in live concert. There are some other songs by Heart that she played the flute on but I'm not sure f there are any other videos of her playing it. You did a great reaction too.!
I had always thought that Ian Anderson had exposure to Scottish folk music and, if so, the Highland pipes use a finger style much like he is exhibiting on the flute.
You entirely miss the point. You are witnessing genius and you want to focus on how long he had been playing. Stick to your mechanical, uninspired approach. You will never be Ian Anderson's fingernail.
They said theyd play it faster, but then, not only did they play it WAY faster, they get faster each time around and ad lib and do extra stuff. They still did a 6:08 version, and the album version from 1971 was 6:45, but much slower. This is the shortened, edited version. The 6:08 version is out there, and many reactors have covered it, including vocal coaches such as TheCharismaticVoice and FairyVoiceMother, all of whom have an absolute field day with this.
"His sound is not that great"......good LORD, woman, do you not appreciate the mad skill and audacity of Ian Anderson's flute playing? He is the one and only rock flautist, and the fact tht he taught himself to play makes it all the more impressive. The man is a muciscal genius!
Love to see Her Play Bouree just like Ian Anderson does here. Good luck. Understand, He was self taught. For only being 1 year in on the Flute , He’s incredible. Pinky or not. 😂
i don't find the use of the nose disgusting at all. the mouth is even worse if you think about it. it's not like he's putting it in his mouth after it going into his nose! :)
Very BEAUTIFUL girl ❤️😍!!....BTW, AWESOME analysis....👍😁. BTW, If you want to listen to another INCREDIBLY talented flutist....listen to Ian Anderson & Jethro Tull, one of my favorite bands of ALL TIME...👍😁

I'll definitely listen to the "normal" version soon. However that will be on my main channel. This reaction channel is retired and I won't be posting new content here. Head to youtube.com/@helinefay for more and weekly reaction content :)
The "squeaks" you are referring to is the guitar player stretching his "b" string while playing a note on his high "e" string so the notes match. It's a technique used by many lead guitarists.

I noticed while watching that the drummer is none other than Ian’s son James Duncan Anderson. I met him at the sound board area in the back part of Carnegie Hall in 2005. He was part of the production team for the show and didn’t play the drums anymore for Ian’s band. Ian was performing solo with the members of this band that were the ones you saw in the video. The Jethro Tull members from the 2000’s up to 2011 were Ian, Martin Barre. and drummer Doane Perry. Martin is touring with his band and still writing songs. And Ian has officially included his present band mates as members of Jethro Tull who released The Zealot Gene 2022 and Rok Flute 2023. I saw them last October at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut,USA

Al Kooper wrote Flute Thing especially for Andy Kulberg who was a classically trained Flutist but only played Bass with The Blues Project. Andy invented the mic hook up to overcome the loud playing by the band, He later invented different things for effects with the Flute. Al, in his book, says when this was first played , it was the first time an electric flute was ever played.
I don't know what to think ... all that vocalising and eye-flashing kind of gets in the way. But this is rock showmanship, not classical. I do so appreciate Martin Barre, who plays the interweaving (flat, that moment) flute, can step up. (Later, much later, when Dire Straits has become big, Tull does a song that I think was a reaction to Knopfler's styling ... "She Said She Was a Dancer." I feel that Barre's guitar on that was very much influenced by Knopfler. I think if you asked Ian you'd find he's influenced, regarding his yapping as he blows the flute, by the harmonica playing and hoots-while-playing of Sonny Terry (with Brownie McGhee).
His embouchure is fairly crude but the level of difficulty and execution of just the fingerings is pretty remarkable for someone who'd only played less than two years
The squeak sound is actually Jan Akerman's guitar. what saddens me about all the reviews of this track is no one appreciate Jan The greatest guitar player ever. This Is played fast because they had a time limit on the performance
