Fly Fishing the beach in SW Florida. This is my 1st time getting to use my new Echo Boost Salt 7wt fly rod - got some fish and I am loving it. If you haven't given fly fishing a try... you are missing out!
I had a blast getting out and learning how to fish the beach.
If you are in the market for a new fly rod - check out the Echo Boost Salt - 239flies.com/c...
Although I am not new to saltwater fishing, I am new to fly fishing in the salt. Fly fishing Florida is way different than fly fishing Ohio and has humbled me! I am missing the easy floats down the river when it hits 90! These video's are my journey of learning how to find fish, what to throw, and when to fish. Join me!

My brother and I began wet wade fly fishing the beaches of NW Florida around 20 years ago. Finding perfect conditions is the hardest part of it so we persisted but shortly spaced rolling waves make it pretty tough if not impossible. But, on those calm mornings when you're out there by yourselves fly fishing the surf is a fantastic sport. I developed some health issues a few years ago that have put the smack down on my ability to take the beatings that the salt water will certainly dish out but the rewards are certainly there if you can hack it. Stay safe.

Always convenient when you get the fish out of the water, take a good look at it, and it unhooks itself. Ladyfish are among the best fish to catch for sport

Ae least being on the Sandbar you have a 360 view and cast on your fly's do you break the barb on the hook? I do for safety reason. You can use fishing line to repair the net.

Very nice video. The guys at 239 Flies are a solid group. Highly recommend. I usually fly fish the beaches around Naples in June(been doing it for 20 years) for snook.Snook are coming out of the passes starting around May. Sure it's the same up there at that time. Incredible to sight fish for them. Look forward to seeing more of your videos. Good luck and if I can flatten your learning curve on fly fishing the beach let me know. Regards

Thanks. Nothing but good things to say about 239 Flies! I am still getting used to the timings for fishing the beach, but I think it would be about the same time frame as Naples. I have a lot to learn about fly fishing the beach, so any tips you have for beach snook I will gladly listen! Thanks again.

@@yakinseabass4518 4 most important things about fishing for snook on the beach-wind, tide, water clarity and sun. Gulf coast you want an east wind and just the opposite on the Atlantic side (this flattens out the surf). Fish the tide during moving water. A good general rule is 2 hours before and after high tide. I used to worry about it but now I don't worry as much because the snook are either there or not (I'm sight fishing). Since I'm sight fishing water clarity and sun light are extremely important. Can't cast to them if you can't see them. As for flies: In clear water any white baitfish pattern in size 2 or 4. Norm's Crystal Schminnow, Squibbster, DT Special all in white are good starting points. If you like to tie flies these are easy and effective. Last year I switched to the game changer fly and caught more snook than I can remember but they are pricey. In tinted water switch to a darker fly like a deceiver or even darker versions of the previous flies. If the snook are a bit deeper then clousers are in play with either lead or bead chain eyes. Strategy: Try to resist getting in the water. Keep your feet on the sand! The snook are right on the beach. And when I say right on the beach I mean right on the beach. Right in that first trough out to about 30 feet. Walk down the beach looking for movement and color. The males run in packs and are easier to catch just put the fly 3 feet in front and strip away from them. The big females are more solo and are harder to get to eat but use the same tactics. I use 9' leader with #25-30 bite tippet with floating or sink tip line. 7, 8 or 9 weight works. Gear doesn't have to be fancy because the fish don't know what you are using. Hope this helps flatten out your learning curve a bit. Just trying to pay it forward a bit so if you have any questions just let me know and we can figure it out since it's not an exact science. Regards

I've never broken a rod (Thank god) That sounds rough, man. New rod is looking good though. So wade to first sandbar and cast behind and parallel? Gotta remember that. I'll be doing the same thing next month.

Yessir! I like to get out to the first sandbar so that if there's no action on the inside cut I can just wade to the outside and fish toward the gulf. Hell yea man good luck!

Keep rod pointed at the fly and strip set. But regardless what you do, ladyfish will fall off lots of times. Crazy fish. Here in china where i live there are few spots with average lady of some 60cm... One meter fish are very probable too.

What kind of Fly Line were you using? I fly fish Col/WYO and am going to bring my 7wt, but currently have sinking line on it for the rivers out west
@yakinseabass4518
@yakinseabass4518 3 года назад
Nice. Welcome! I am using floating line. If you're going to be fishing the beach you'll probably be stripping fast enough for sinking to be fine. If you're planning on hitting the flats its worth getting floating line IMO.

You need to let them run after Hook Up. Also if it’s Snook they have soft mouths. Let em Run.
