The "85 flood will always be a time of infamy, but the "96 flood brought even more death, pain, and sorrow to our part of the world. My boots were on the muddy ground both times walking the debris ravaged banks and floodplains looking for the lost souls that were swept away. From Romney, all the way to Grandmas house on the Greenbrier R. in Marlinton, it was a devastating sight to behold. Truly life changing for a group of high school boys to go from playing football to rescue/ recovery operations the next few weeks. Life changing for those precious souls and families who lost everything. The hardships seem to be numerous in the hollers of almost heaven but they have always been overcome by the angelic spirits of the great people of WV! It will always be home! No matter where one may be, for the pride of the mountains and for the people who grew up there, home is where the heart is and where life lessons were taught and cherished.
