Fly fishing for the famous Cherry Trout or Cherry Salmon in the Gifu region of Japan was a highlight of our adventure! We spent 2 and a half weeks sightseeing and eating our way through Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and ended our trip in Takayama with a guided day of fly fishing in the mountain streams. A day filled with catching abundant Cherry Trout which is actually a Salmon and locally called Yamame or Amado depending on which side of the drainage you're on, and Iwana the Japanese Char, similar to a Brooke Trout but different coloring. It was a GREAT day!
Our Guide was the wonderful, Hisashi Suzuki, (Hisa for short), who owns his own Fly Shop called Watchett. We booked him through the outfitter Trout & King. I would 100% go through Trout and King again and request Hisa. Very professional and fun! I'll attach their links bellow.
