Amen on replacing those old(e) lines! There are $10 lines available these days that cast better than your sun-cracked $90 fly line.

This was the most digestible video on fly lines I've seen. Being less than a year into fly fishing, your explanatory videos are a great thing for me. Sure, I love the stuff from Orvis and MRO, but the personality just isn't the same. Stay Huge!

Used a full sink today stripping buggers and hooked up some nice cuts and browns today on the river . Feb 26 , 2020 South West Montana . 38 degrees no ice in my guides while getting it bent 🎣

All of this is true!! Especially line weights. I have been saving up for lifted truck recently JUST so I could purchase and use an 8wt rod. Nothing says huge like having to get a running start to get in your vehicle. As always...Ben you have nailed it! My favorite channel!! Hope to see more fishing vids soon!

Ever skied in the morning then fished in the afternoon? I got a couple laps in on my backcountry sticks in RMNP then tossed a few bugs on the Big Thompson later that day. I thought to myself, this is something Huge Fly Fisherman would do. It felt pretty huge. Also, thanks for introducing me to About Trout's channel, only 2 that I subscribe to.

OK, so I'm an oldie, so when I was 12 when do decided to try fly fishing I bought some flies at the hardware store ( size 10 royal coachmans anyone?) and tried to cast with my spinning rod! Didn't work, duh, BUT my dad found that old box a few years back and sent it to me. Promptly hooked a HUGE rainbow with one ( OK, it was a stocker, but even so; 40 year old fly!).

Sometimes when my loop fails I don't like them especially when a HUGE fish swims off with my leader.. Otherwise they are fine... Sometimes (usually) I cut them off and make my own loop. What kind of loop is blurred out on the monster truck photo? Keep up the good work and hope you can get out fishing soon.

Ben, I need your help. My daughter, who is left handed, used my fly rod last week. Now I keep throwing tailing loops. I think her left handedness (Is that a word? Yea, Its a word) has affected the line. Should I load the fly line backwards on my reel and chant over a pile of fish bones (And does it have to be bone fish fish bones?) to undo what she has done? Im spending a fortune in leaders now. Please advise. Thanks.

how long can fly lines be stored for? i found a scientific anglers Lefty Kreh line in my garage that my dad bought probably 10-15 years ago but never used. I spooled it up on my 8wt and it seems to cast better than the cheap Chinese stuff that came on it but im wondering if i would be better served buying a newer line.

Good question. I guess they can be stored indefinitely as long as they are kept somewhere not too hot.

You also have the intermediate tip lines, and hovering lines, but they as basically intermediate fly lines.....Btw you are a fly fishing guide🤣

I've fished RIO forever. I like the way they cast, but they are not durable at all. I've been fishing some Orvis lines during the past year and I like them a lot.

Ben, fun video. You mentioned that grain weights are irrelevant on sinking lines. I don’t think that is correct. Can you explain that comment?

I mean with respect to rod weights and sinking lines, the standard rod weights are kind of out the window. Better to go by grain weight.

Huh? Sorry, I don’t understand. Sinking lines and floating lines both have grain weights that correlate to the rod. Are you talking about sink tip or shooting head lines that come in grain weights rather than line weights?

🌴ya,ya, I know this video was posted two years ago , so, 👈🏼 I got a question , 🤔 I saw a vid were a guy was fishing a 5 wt rod in salt water , and being the idiot I am, 🤨 I said hummm I can do that so I got a deal at the local flea market on a 8- 1/2 ft 5 wt , graphite rod and a 5-6 wt Okuma reel ,total investment was $ 21.00 bucks 🎉. ,the reel even had a new fly line and backing , but line wt is an unknown , the rod has a really stiff action , and I took it out today to give it a test run , ahhh ya , it was like trying to cast kite string on a broom handle , so the question is can I put say a 6 wt or 7 wt - wt fwd line on this stiff rod to give it more flex while casting 🤔 Ya I know this a “ HUGE” question!
