Got out on the Neversink today and brought the big rig camara with me for the first part of the day then explored with the GoPro at the bridge area in fallsburg. Water was freezing in the morning and fish were active. I think thread frechie, pats rubber legs, and tan mop accounted for all the fish caught not sure about the quick releasers. Great day for sure even though numbers were not to high.

Love your videos!!!! Are you using regular fishing line instead of flyline? If so can you give details? Love your success and would love to see the actual flies you’re using. Could use all the advice I could get LOL

I have 20-25 feet of 15 or 20 lbs maxima chameleon mono. then 3 feet of 10 lbs maxima chameleon then 2 feet of bicolor sighter material 8-10 lbs I change that end part up quite a bit. Then a tippet ring. Then I typically use about 4 feet to 6 feet of 5x tippet depending on depth. All of that is tied directly to the fly line so that rarely does fly line come out of my reel. Look up thread frenchie, walts worm, mops cream and chartreuse, pats rubber legs for flies. You can also search for tight line leader formulas and see what people are using. Hope that helps.

As a new NY-based fly fisher, I'm really enjoying your videos! Do you ever fish the Beaverkill or Willowemoc? I've been out on the BK 3 times and not gotten so much as bite yet, you make it look so easy.
@fly-f1sh140
@fly-f1sh140 3 года назад
Thanks for watching! I have fished both the Beaverkill and Willowemoc. They are very nice rivers I just find them usually crowded on the days that I can get out and fish so I tend to stay away from them. In my expererience I tend to find more fish and less people on the Neversink or the Esopus. My advice would be to move way up stream or way down stream from any parking spot on the Beaverkill or the Willowemoc and fish spots other people will not fish. Good luck!

great day on Neversink! Any chance of showing the thread Frenchie and telling us what size flies you are using in the videos. Cheers =)
@fly-f1sh140
@fly-f1sh140 5 лет назад
Thank you .. the thread frenchie's that I use are in one of my tying videos here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9vodDlEeA7w.html . I will use size 16 first with a 2.8mm bead and if I am not getting down far enough I will move up to size 14 with 3.3mm then size 12 with 3.8mm if I still do not think I am sinking fast enough based on the current and the depth of the water. If I need to I will throw a massive pats rubber legs with a size 12 thread frenchie just to get to the deep stuff quick. I have never tied any thread frenchies larger than size 12 because honestly it feels really funny how big the 12 is but it still catches a lot of fish for me. I will try to get more video of the flies and the set up after I release a fish because that is a great idea you have to help people out.

Very nice video! you make it look easier then it probably is. How late in the year do trout stay active ?
@fly-f1sh140
@fly-f1sh140 4 года назад
Thanks Paul ... On the neversink I think trout are pretty active year round within 5 to 10 miles of the reservoir. That water stays really cold as long as we have a decent amount of rain and the reservoir is releasing. Further downstream I found it was a bit warmer but still fishable in the Neversink Gorge trail area later in the summer and into September.

@@fly-f1sh140 Thanks for the helpful reply ! I don't know much about trout fishing but I may pack a rod for the next backpacking trip in catskills.

Very nicely done , some beautiful trout landed ,and love the double! What was the water temperature and where is this exactly, would love to try the Neversink ! Did the Farmington Sunday and didn’t have a good day , managed only 3 bows about 12 inches and a couple of break offs , conditions were perfect for nymphing,! Worked some good spots to no avail, threw all my arsenal! Frustrating to say the least ! Saw one rise in front of me , over 20 inches ! Could not entice him to strike! But it still feels good to be out there ! Keep the videos coming and tight lines!

Thanks bud ... that sucks about the farmington I have had a few days like that there as well ... last time a guy using corn caught 12 and I caught 1 and I could see about 100 fish working in front of me sometimes it just aint gonna happen ... the water temp when I started was just below 60 and I had to take a break after two hours because my feet were not responding ... look up the neversink on the NY DEC and it has maps. I like the first parking spot on route 42 with the huge rock before you get to fallsburg and I just started to explore the bridge in Fallsburg which is at the Stewarts intersection. That bridge is busy like church pool is though so you would want to hit that early. Then there is the neversink unique area which is about a mile hike in and is further down stream than where I was fishing so I am going to hit that in the fall or next year. I believe the unique area is completely wild but not sure ... I have not gone up to the actual reservoir spot yet but I was told it has a lot of fish where the water dumps in. Find route 42 and start following it towards Fallsburg and you will see the parking areas if you zoom in one is near fallsburg sewer and the other is across the bridge from stewarts. None of these are secrets either I see bait fisherman every time I go. Hope that helps and good luck.

@@fly-f1sh140 the rocks in Neversink vary so much in size. Kind of treacherous to wade without a staff. I think I am finally ready for that river. It was the first river I tried fly fishing when I had no clue. Can't wait to see this at home w a beer. Daydreaming of fishing.
@fly-f1sh140
@fly-f1sh140 5 лет назад
@@beo77 Yeah I remember I was demoralized by this river as a teenager and you are 100 percent right this is wading staff central even in Fallsburg ... the videos I have seen of the Unique area look even worse so I am glad I broke down and bought the wading staff this year I cant believe how much better I feel using it when I move from spot to spot.

are you using a sighter or just a indicator or both?
@fly-f1sh140
@fly-f1sh140 5 лет назад
I am using both. I use the indicator when the water is slow like in the first part of the video and then I use the sigther when the water is fast during the second part of the video. I prefer to use the sighter but if I need to get distance or the water is just to slow for me to hold it steady, then I wont hesitate to put that indicator on and adjust my tippet length to get to the depth I think the fish are at. Also if the wind is terrible I will use the indicator for any cast longer than about 10 feet.
