Hit the Neversink today and had a pretty good day. Tried some different camera angles and zoom levels out not sure how much I like it but keeps it interesting. Pats Rubber legs purple and coffee and black by far the best producing for me today.

I enjoyed your video on one of my favorite rivers. Stoneflies def work but caddis are number one insect in the river. You can see hundreds on each rock. Thanks a lot again for entertainment. Will make sure I subscribe. Best, Nino.

Thanks for watching! I am trying to be as detailed as possible with the approach so that hopefully anyone can apply the techniques. Sometimes its hard to remember to discuss what is going on while I am fishing especially when things get hectic! Good luck on the Willowemoc and thanks again.

Nice work on the Neversink! Some better fish in this video! Great camera work showing different angles and techniques , and some nice takes on film ! I’m a big fan of the indicator when working deep runs ! But my last outing did great euro nymphing! I did quite well on the Neversink Gorge last time out ! Pats rubber legs always works well for me ! Good heavy point fly is a must for deep and fast water! Always enjoy watching your videos man ! Tight lines !

Thanks for watching ! I have the gorge on my list just not sure I want to lug the camera down there even though its unreal scenery. I love Pats fishing but hate tying them and man do they love to get hung up. When you fish the gorge which route do you tend to go? I always have trouble deciding where to start and where to end. I like fishing upstream but man if you get off the beaten path its an a$$ kicker getting back to the truck. I was kind of thinking Denton Falls start and go upstream from there next time until I got to a decent path back up to the trail. Would love to hear your thoughts.

FLY-F1SH well first of all , I’m no expert when fishing the gorge! Probably been up there 3 times and one time the flows were too high to wade ! Unbelievable scenery and some nice fish to be had ! Put a couple of 18 inch fish right off the bat ! Tough wading even with low flows ! I go Fromm Katrina fall road and hike down , stay left at the split and work my way upstream from this big pool! So much to learn about this river , there are a couple of more entry areas ! Eden Road was not my favorite but definitely good fishing in that general area ! My method here is definitely high sticking, and I might even use split shot to get me down! Upstream casts tend to work here also ! This besides the Farmington is becoming one of my favorites! Good luck !

Amazing video as always, thank you for making content perfect for those new to waters you fish. I’ll be parking at the same lot tomorrow and heading upstream, first time on the Neversink as well. I’ll be hoping to find stonefly eaters as well, and crossing fingers for some caddis activity as well 👍. I wonder if they’ll be in the glides or fast water!

I've fished that exact stretch of the neversink many times. Actually i have fished the entire river from the headwaters the tail water below the reservoir the gorge and tributaries. Very diverse river.catch everything from native brookies,browns, rainbows even a few landlocked salmon and lake trout which i suspect migrated from the reservoir.

@fly-f1sh140

Hey Gary I tie them in size 8, 10, 12. If its about 3 feet of water I go with 10. Deeper I try the 8 and shallow riffles if I get hung up to much I throw the 12 on. Most fish I catch are with the 10 though. Good luck!

@@garygreco5066 I could not believe how big they were when I started using them I was convinced they would not work. WRONG works everywhere there are stone flies and some days its insane how well it works. I try to throw it anytime I see stonefly dead bodies on rocks. I do not consider it a successful fishing season unless I do the river dance at least once. Break something, lose something, and fall in the water usually means I had a good season. I plan on going back to Big Flathead early season during the week to make a longer video as long as mother nature does not interfere.

@fly-f1sh140

Alex Argyros because it is a tail water in this section it fishes better than most rivers July and August. I have not fished many eastern PA tail waters but for me the Catskills best is Esopus and Neversink

Another great video. Are you more successful with a 1 fly as opposed to 2 fly rig? What determines which setup you fish? How long would your leader and tippet be? Thanks Mike
@fly-f1sh140
@fly-f1sh140 4 года назад
Thanks Mike and thanks for watching. If there are a bunch of different currents I will use one fly. If I know I can drift fairly straight or if the water is deeper and faster I will use two flies. When I use an indicator I try to go for 1.5 times what I think the water depth is and if its fast I will go with two times the depth. I like to start with less tippet and add it as I need to if I am not hitting bottom. My goal is always try to be close to the bottom with my lowest fly but I dont like to ride the bottom. I tend to go through a ton of tippet and a bunch of weight changes but I most definitely catch more trout than I used to when I was lazy and did not attempt to change my drift depth. Another benefit of two flies when the water allows for it is that I can cover two different feeding depths. Again this will use a lot more tippet but I find its worth it experimenting with one fly riding in the middle and upper section of the water and one fly closer to the bottom. My tippet section of my leader ranges from 2 ft to 6ft usually. I love tippet rings so I tend to have some 3x or 2x, 3 or 4 feet with a tippet ring at the end, then I use 4,5,6x depending on how clear and how spooky fish might be. You can move the indicator on the heavy stuff but I almost always have the indicator right on my tippet ring and only the small stuff in the water. After many years of catching only a few trout I just decided I am going to change all aspects of my rig if I know there are trout in front of me and not be afraid of tying some knots and changing the weight of my flies. I don't use split shot any more I only use different size tungsten beads for my weight on my rig. Hope that helps!

I've watched 5 1/2 minutes of the video and I have to say that you're going to have to start using two cameras/GoPro's. I've fished there Neversink so I was very interested in watching this video, but how about getting am angler's view of the stream, cast, strike, and landing the fish?

Thanks for watching. I was experimenting with camera angles this day. In theory it sounds really easy right? Go fishing, find willing fish, film yourself catching them, discuss what is going on while you are doing it. In reality, it is way harder. Watch further into the video and there is the angle you are talking about.

Next time you go look at bridgeville usgs gauge. Best fishing water in the gorge is 120 to 220 cfs as you can wade everything. I fished it at 300 and 400 and 500 cfs. 300 def can be also good but not as wading friendly but def doable and if water is little bit off color fish will be out of the rocks and closer to the shore. If you go when water is 400 cfs or 500 cfs its actually good streamer water in the gorge with a sinking line. When it comes to 400 or 500 cfs keep in mind wading is really limited to bigger pools, try to stay on visible rocks close to the bank. In my opinion if the water is showing anything higher than 300 at bridgeville station I would choose some other place to fish. Tight lines!

This water stays pretty cold as long as they are releasing from the reservoir. I think I fished it last year in July and it was high 50s low 60s. Thanks for watching.
@JokiBroki
@JokiBroki 3 года назад
yes water here can def get hot as its pretty far from the dam and since there isnt much cover over the river it gets above 70 quick if the days are 80 and above for couple of days. When you go to neversink gorge there are couple of cold water feeder streams that do cool it off a bit but if you go on USGS website and check Bridgeville station and you see anything 68 F and up dont bother going to this section of the river. Head closer to the dam.
