Thanks mate. A very chilly night as expected this time of the year but the quality of the fish made it well worth it considering this lake isn't particularly easy.

Horrible in terms of temperature, but being winter that's expected and it does get colder than this up there too so could of been worse. Fish was worth it but paid for it as I had gotten sick not long after this trip

Cheers John, yeah its an eye opener at night that's for sure. Great spot up there. That place and Coleridge as well as Lyndon over the other side you can winter fish. Lake Selfe does have big fish but it tends to be a lot fewer than of the past. With this place being open nearly all year round now with the winter season open for longer it never really gets much chance to recuperate. It's taken a hiding over the years. Fish numbers of the 'big size' have declined but there are still a few out there like mine and make no mistake there are bigger. I have spotted one probably another pound or 2 bigger than this one an other time. You just got to be in the right place, right time when you do see one. Float tubing gives you the advantage in a place like this. Especially with the shoreline loaded with Bush, trees and steep banks throughout a lot of this lake. Hotdogs and a good coffee went down a treat.

Yeah not something Id do on a regular basis lol. Night fishing at night would be far more pleasant in the summer, winter up there is like being in Antartica. But a couple of hot drinks towards the end of the night went down well.

The trick when cold like that is to rub oil on the guides which prevents it freezing up. But I didn't bring any with me to the lake edge. Night Fishing brings a different element.

Wow yes I think your right there. Good pick up. Funny thing was I thinking that when I was there in what I thought I'd heard a little kid saying that when I was on the lake edge. But I knew there was Noone else around so at the time I was thinking I must be just hearing things. I went through my unedited clip of that and yeah bro I can hear it alright. Clear as! A little eerie that. I remember old O'Hanlon doing a little video once or twice up in a couple of these Canterbury High Country lakes with some random voices responding out of nowhere when no person is clearly to be seen. It's bit of a mystery some of these lakes but doing night fishing is not the time or place to be hearing things like that 😬
