Fly Fishing One of the Best Char Spots in the Highlands - Why Is It So Good?!

Join us in the Icelandic Highlands for an unforgettable evening of fly fishing. Iceland is renowned for its world-class fly fishing, and these highland waters are a testament to that reputation. We will be fishing in two different waters. First is a lake called Fellsendavatn, located in the black sand desert and then the river Kaldakvísl that lies just next to Fish Partners Highlands Lodge.
The area where we’re fishing is one of the most remote and captivating regions of the Icelandic Highlands. Fellsendavatn Lake is nestled in a rugged landscape surrounded by ancient volcanic terrain, rolling hills, and vast stretches of untouched wilderness. The lake itself is a serene oasis, with crystal-clear waters that reflect the moody skies and jagged peaks around it.
The Kaldakvísl River winds through a dramatic valley, carving its path through volcanic rock formations and lush green moss. The river’s waters are pristine, cold, and fast-flowing, creating the perfect habitat for trout and Arctic char. The combination of steep cliffs, cascading streams, and the ever-changing light of the Icelandic evening adds a touch of magic to the experience.
This area is not only a haven for anglers but also a place where the raw beauty of Iceland’s highlands is on full display. The isolation and tranquility make every cast feel like a step back in time, where you can truly appreciate the untamed spirit of Iceland’s wilderness.

Fantastisk video as always! Another one I'd love to see from you is a video with some strategy tips for fishing sea run sea trout on a river!

Great video m8. Like I used to tell the customers when I was guiding for fish partners: The fish is a lot closer than you think AND also a lot farther away from you and don't forget to fish the water in between. Say hy to Sindri, Kristján and the rest of the gang.

Brilliant video Robert. You have a great knack of drawing the viewer into the video with you and we feel that we are knee deep in the water alongside, sharing the experience. Love your work. What a place. Fishing is epic. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. I already filmed this before posting the first video. What is the reason for it in your opinion?
@alexredhat3476
@alexredhat3476 Месяц назад
Actually Jerome does it too. Maybe I overreacting with this but somehow when you add additional point of pressure on the blank this is where it might break. This won't happen with those trout but I worry that one day you will have really big fish and then you might pay the ultimate price by breaking the rod. Why anglers do that it's hard to say. My theory is we do that to release the pressure from our wrist which after long fight becomes tired but to be honest I don't know why.

I do it to support my other arm in adding more pressure to bring the fish in. Let's see if they will hold this autumn when I fish in some of the best sea run brown trout rivers 😅 lots of 30-inch trout

magnet attached to the jacket/backpack and on top of your net (you can see it here at 13:21), has to be quality magnets because its easy to drop it if its poor quality. I have been fishing with Robert before :)

Great video Robert. It looks so barren. What do the fish eat? And if the big ones eat little fish, what do the little fish eat?
@FlyFishingbyRobert
@FlyFishingbyRobert Месяц назад
The main food source is midge. Also for the big char.

So fun to see a new upload from you! How are you ever going to be able to leave Iceland... the fly fishing is just too good. Like going back in time to more bountiful days, big individuals around every corner!

Yes. I ate several arctic char this summer. When I fish for char to keep I fish in the lakes and take home only smaller fish.
