I have fished Rock Creek 3 different times and spent a toal of 14 days . The opening scene of this video I can well remember because I was wadeing when a brown bear cub came out of the woods behind me, across the road, through the creek and at a dead run ran up those pile of loose rocks. I froze thinking what if mama shows up now and I waited about 5 minutes and was relieved that nothing more happened. At the same campsite one morning my friends and I woke up to a herd of wild sheep that were feeding on the grasses and were within hand reach of the front of the tent. Absolutely amazing! I cannot tell you how many trout we caught but it must have been over 100, all released except for a few for dinner. I have fished the creek from the campsite to the main road and will never forget. For you that get to go there, have a great time.
Rock Creek is and always will be my favorite trout stream in all the US. I have fished in 48 states and the scenery, the wildlife, the abundance of fish in the 70's and 80's at Rock Creek was incredible. I love the place, wish I could go back.
Couldn't agree more with that assessment! Never saw the stream back then but all I know is it's still an awesome place. The three of us agreed, that of all our campsites on this trip, that rock creek was our favorite!
I fished Rock Creek for the first time 40 years ago. They say you never forget your first and that's true. I have never seen such massive trout activity on a river.
+Wooly Bugged thank you! It truly was an amazing place to fish for the scenery alone. Driving almost the whole way across the county though and seeing all the different landscapes really puts it in perspective though as to how fortunate we are to have the beautiful scenery back here in PA too. Thanks so much for watching!
Awesome place to fish. I spent 4 days on Rock Creek, and I can’t wait to go again. I call rock creek 41 miles of pure fly fishing gold! I would like to see you guys show more action shots for us novice fisherman. (I.e casting mending the line and drifting the fly so we can learn from you guys)
We are currently in Missoula as we speak and plan on shooting another rock creek video! I'll definitely be sure to incorporate some of your feedback. Should have the video edited some time late this fall. Thanks for watching!
@@BackyardBassin Thanks you guys. I've never been but plan on fishing it. Any tactical tips would be greatly appreciated, look forward to seeing casting, mending the line, and drifting the fly, and rig set up.
Hey great video guys! You got into some really nice fish, wish I'd hooked into some of them when I was there. I fished the Upper Rock, looks like you fished the lower, they just opened 17 miles of the lower a few days before we got there and guys were hammering it. The middle section was still closed, wouldn't even allow us to walk in, but we did have fun on the upper section, wish we could've fished it one more day. Oh well, all good memories. Nice job! 👍🏻
+PA WOODS N WATER we were camped at the Bitterroot campground and fished mostly between there and the ranger station. Sounds like we hit it pretty good from what you are saying. Some people were even telling us that the water was too high. It's really interesting hearing how your trip went though. Sorry you weren't able to get full access to the stream but like you said - good memories none the less. Besides, I guess it gives you an excuse to go back ;)
+Rush Voorhis Outdoors thanks Rush! We're always down for some Montana Fly Fishing! Also, if you're ever back East again, hit us up! Still haven't had a chance to watch the last two of your salmon vids but they are on my watch later list and I'm looking forward to them!
+x 412 x looks like you're a Pittsburgh guy! I currently live in Monroeville. Rock creek was one of my favorite places we fished out there! Lots of fish and beautiful scenery. Thanks so much for watching! -Doug
Haha that is a fact! When we were there this summer again we actually saw them filling potholes but I don't think they went past valley of the moon. Thanks for watching!
we in Bosnia have a trout with the mouth just like these on "white", even more muzzled, when hooked fish suddenly jumps out of water meters and than spends more time in the air, jumping like a mad ....
+Bruce Harris we were there the second week of July and never saw any signs if fire other than the helicopters. No smoke or anything. We know another guy who lives in PA and has a RU-vid channel (PA Woods and Water) that was there in the end of July I think and said most of Rock Creek road was closed and there was a lot of smoke.
+Blueline Overland thanks for the great comment! Our main camera is a Sony A6000 but we also use our phone a fair amount which are Samsung Galaxy s7's.
+Blueline Overland correct! 90% of the clips were on the A6000. Love the camera! Only complaint is that the LCD screen can't flip around for filming yourself. Other than that it is the perfect camera for what we do.
+Joseph Custer my dad and I used a 9' 5wt GLoomis NRX LP so more of a fast action mid flex. Dan used a 9' 5wt GLoomis GLX Stream Dance which is a fast action. Can't go wrong with a 9' 5wt for a very versatile rod. Hope this helped! Thanks for watching?
Guys -- make your videos private. All you are doing is making these Montana rivers more and more crowded. Stop. No one needs to see these videos, except maybe your friends. Make … them … private.
I noticed Penn State T shirt on a member of your party. It is nice to hear that Penn State isn't just for football but u guys love to fly fish for trout. Best wishes for the future and tight lines. U guys should check out Baxter State Pk in Maine. Great fly fishing for beautiful Brook trout.
John Stanton that would be my brother wearing the shirt. I am actually the treasurer of the Penn State fly fishing club and our club advisor always says that Penn State was fly fishing U before they were linebacker U! It's a great place for trout fishing! We have a video on our channel called life of a Penn State fly fisherman that you might like. I am actually going to look up Baxter state park now haha. Always looking for new places to fish! Thanks for the lead and thanks for watching!
+Bryce Hasquet we were hoping that some people would weigh in on whether it was a bull or brook! Since none of us had ever caught a bull before we aren't sure but thought it didn't quite look like a brook trout. Thanks for pointing that out and thanks for watching!
Is there any particular identification feature that you look for in order to tell then apart? They seem to look very similar when they're small. Pretty neat though to catch a bull trout. We don't have any of those back east haha
Backyard Angling bulls are gray with pink/white spots and no black spots at all. Brookies are more of a dark blue/green with blue, red, and yellow spots with black squiggly patterns on their back.
+Slayton James thanks for the kind words! We were there about the second weekend of July. From what I hear it's a great time of year to fish it. Unfortunately for us the water was a little high due to last winter's snow pack but still fished half decent. The wildlife and beautiful scenery more than made up for the okay fishing! Thanks for watching!
+Jordan Palm it really is a fantastic place to fish! As for the gopro mount our video here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Uzlp7Bu4DBI.html shows how we did it around the 7:35 marker. Essentially all I did was take the mount from the gopro packaging, cut it to size, drill a hole in each corner, and thread zip ties through it. Works fantastic! Hope this helps.
