Fishing the beautiful McKenzie River in Oregon for wild rainbow trout. I shot this last October. The weather was warm and the October Caddis hatch was in effect.
I was using a dry dropper system with a foam stonefly on top and a soft-hackle pheasant tail underneath.

I don't know when they started calling it the Blue McKenzie? I've only been fishing the river since 65.

My earliest fishing memories were up the McKenzie, leaburg dam ect. After the fire I struggled to hold the tears back the first time I saw the devastation. It looks so different now. The Christmas store is gone and I couldn’t figure out exactly where it stood because everything looks so different. There’s color coming back from grass and shrubs starting to grow again. It will heal and become beautiful again but our memories will never match.
