They have a very progressive mayor who has done a fantastic job there. Traffic with lights that flows well. The river area was very polluted which they cleaned up. There were many poor people living there that they moved to land further away They created an esplanade, a great walkway by the water to stroll, jog or bike ride. New malls, condos and the Festive Walk. Restaurants and stores. Medical facilities plus the old city is nice to visit. Illoillo is one of my favorites to retire there.

I visited Iloilo city both last September and this April. Lovely city and very clean. I also explored both west and north of the city, lots of cool little towns. Took the 5 hour bus ride back from Boracay. I stayed in the same building as you for 4 nights.

I was in Iloilo at the beginning of May. I stayed right next to the Esplanade. Temps were pretty high for me. I would recommend Grab for all taxi journeys. I rarely paid more than 150 pesos for any journey. From Iloilo airport to my apartment was only about 250 pesos. I tipped 25 for the journeys, unless I got a friendly, chatty driver, then I tipped 100.

Would like to comment on a few things. Rob and Christy's on-screen chemistry is spot on if not excellent. Such a natural flow of conversation, voice inflection, and clarity, love it. Christy's command of the English language has grown tremendously, her poise is natural and timely, her articulation is excellent, and very impressed by her mannerisms. It is a very professional production and has become one of my top 2 channels to watch about the Philippines. I'm an Old Dog fan too. (plug for Paul)

Iloilo is whole package. From city life to adventure life. From historical sites to modern sites. Lots of beautiful beaches in Iloilo as well like isla gigantes or sicogon Iloilo. Lots of snorkeling areas as well in northern Iloilo. Or you can try bucari Leon if you want mountain and pine trees camping. Or if you’re bored, you can visit boracay which is on the same island as well.

As a local, I normally personally pay 600-700 to taxi due to far area and usually no return passengers. And they normally wait for long time in the airport unlike in the City Center that they just charge as what in meter is. For me, I consider 650 a fair price. Have a nice stay in Iloilo

City of Love! My Filipina girlfriend has told me about Iiloilo, but now I see all the Vloggers talking about it. I hope it doesn't turn into another Dumaguete

Iloilo has a different dynamics compared to Dumaguete. It has been a highly urbanized city a long time ago but it maintains its laidback atmosphere. If you go around Iloilo City, a lot of old mansions and houses have been restored and repurposed. Most of them have been converted to museum cafe. It simply means that we take care of its old world charm and become relevant at present. There is a sense of community and pride of place in every Ilonggos. That is why you can see that most of the areas in Iloilo are so clean because people have discipline and sense of responsibility. Plus, we have a forward thinking leaders that look after the welfare of its people and guest. Iloilo City is undergoing revitalization and our leaders are finding ways to future proofing the city. For example, the City is already building roads even there is no activities in that area because they are already envisioning the future of the city. Another 5 km will be opened this June and the are preparing to build a road around the coastal area of Iloilo City going to the International Container Port passing by the Fishing Port to address traffic before it becomes congested.

Hi: Like the channel and have beeen iving here for 3 months and just signed a lease for 3 more in a similar studio for 25K per month. You are in an island of new construction. The rest of the city looks like the older parts of many other filipino cities. A new airport was built and a new highway to get there. The land of the old airport is being redeveloped and Festive walk , the mall, and all the surrounding condos and office building for the BPOs are there with many more condos under construction and in the planning stage. It is just a small island though, but nice. Traffic is almost nothing compared to Cebu. Best, Steve

That was just a little area in Iloilo. 30 minutes to an hour is a different environment. In the middle of the city you will have a refuge because of the River which is clean and Pedestrian friendly. You can still commune with nature even you live in the city unlike other major cities in the Philippines. You can do island hoping hoping in Guimaras Province that is 20 minutes away by boat ride. Additionally, you can go around the whole city by just riding a bike.

During those days, Iloilo was a sleepy and gloomy place to live because it has been neglected for 50 years. It was only revitalized when the old airport was bought by MEGAWORLD and converted it into Iloilo Business District where Palladium is located. It is used to be a busy airport. To accommodate new developments It was sold to MEGAWORLD. Then everything exploded. Most major companies flocked to Iloilo to have a piece of the pie. More are coming. The long stretch of road from Casa Emperador going to Iloilo Convention Center is where you will see most of the BPO and call centers. Iloilo Business Park is the most successful Business Park after Metro Manila. But Iloilo is not defined by flashy buildings and modern amenities but by its people and foods. You will find one of the most hospitable and the most soft spoken people in Iloilo.

I was there early April. (Happy to hear that you think Mindanao has best looking women. I found that to be true with my online search.). I stayed for a week, also at the Palladium, $37 per night. That is not the downtown area, however. I went to park across the street from Jura Cathedral where people gawked at me and said hello. Got more attention there than anywhere else in the PI. It was seriously hot and I stayed mostly indoors avoiding the sun. I would prefer the rainy season. Went to river walk too. I give Iloilo a 7.

Left Iloilo yesterday. They have Grab. The Trik station next to the traffic circle at Seda hotel closes about 7 pm. The roads are smooth and wide. I would consider driving iloilo, but not Manila, Cebu, or Dumeguette. Agree that Iloilo feels like a planned city. LOL I am in Makati right now.

Rob, the office buildings and BPO offices are just a few steps away from ICON(iloilo convention center)Last time I was there, there were least 10? BPO companies(I counted😂😂) and growing. If you walked further, There's an almost finished 20 story office building available for lease. It is indeed amazing what good governance can do.

BPO offices is located in south part of Iloilo Business Park(Megaworld)as well as in Atria Park(Ayala Corp.). Iloilo has a strong middle class status family where a lot of Seafarers and Nurses working abroad and sending their hard earned dollars at home.

Iloilo City is a combination of old and new. Their tagline is “ I n Iloilo, the Past is always Present “. There are a lot of old buildings, mansions, churches, and many more. Spanish influence is palpable in the entire city. You can still find the old world charm in Iloilo. One thing that was not mentioned here is the food. Iloilo is the only city in the Philippines declared by UNESCO as a Creative City of Gastronomy. Iloilo is a food haven. We are more known of our food than our tourism attractions. Our restaurants and coffee shops are considered tourist destinations. You will not get hungry in Iloilo City and Province

Mega World and Festive walk is a bubble. Same as BGC in Manila. The rest of Iloilo has the usuall heavy traffic, although not as bad as Manila. The riverside walk is very nice also.

There's a van or commuter ride from the airport going to the city wherein you don't need to take a taxi that charges you high fares sometimes. But, if you have lot of baggages, better to take a taxi...

Iloilo City and Festive Walk is a great spot for foreigners to come and feel comfortable. I met my Filipina for the first time there our hotel was super nice for $18 a night with pool right next to Festive Walk. It was a good Segway before we caught a bus to the other side of the island in Mapatag Antique to meet her family and plan our now marriage 😂

old taxi trick of lacking proper change. That vacant lot is said to be the a Lander's grocery shop site but not that certain at the moment. the I.T. area is the next blcok after K-Town and the main thoroughfare across the Hotels and Convention Center.

Exactly, areas like Oton, Jaro , Iloilo Proper have beautiful buildings, much more soul and culture. Not a new mini concrete jungle of high rise towers and brand new restaurants etc.

I've not been there but here's what it seems like from all the reviews (including yours). I get that it's new/modern/clean, but it seems sterile, expensive, and too spread out like a Western City. I understand it great for cycling though and maybe I would have a different take as I am getting into Ebiking. The only time it seemed like the new Downtown had a heartbeat was during Festival. I don't know; what's your take on my comments. I'm surprised you didn't try to meet up with Texas Filipino while in town. Peace and Love, B Goat

B Goat I left my e-bike in Arizona and I really miss it. I find that I went biking so much more often when I had an e-bike but where I live in Cdo seems very dangerous here other people have said it’s very good for biking. Also, stay tuned.

These studio units rent for about $30-$37 a night typically the one I rented was a little bit of a premium at $46 per night. I think they’re about 31 m².

So Rob a couple of rookie mistakes on your part 😂. 1) You need to have small bills available whenever you go out. I try to spend my 500s and 1000s at McDonalds or at a large supermarket where they will be able to provide you with change. I don’t spend my 20s, 50s, 100s unless I need small bills for a taxi, tricycle, tips, sari sari store, etc… I’ll start with a larger bill and move down if they don’t have change. They may actually have change, but they get more if they say that they don’t have change. 2) You mentioned that the most beautiful girls are in Mindanao and you didn’t see as many in Iloilo. Chrissy caught you (she accused you of looking) 😅. I’m sure that she admonished you after the video 😂. Remember that Filipinas are the CIA of social media 😂.

you are a city guy for sure and yes Iloilo is a planned community with the help of Andrew Tan who created Megaworld in 1989 to accomplish just that, if you venture outside the Megaworld infrastructure, you will find the Philippines. Tan is a multi-dollar (not Pesos) Chinese born Filipino billionaire who has developed many successful businesses in the Philippines..

The farther south in PH you go the more attractive (more islander more petite), Northern Luzon to Mindanao is a steep slope (worse to better) in a Caucasian man’s opinion

TAXIs going to and from the airport have a different rate compared to metered taxis since the area is beyond their actual franchise area within the city. They were actually asked the exact rate set by the government of around 600 pesos. But there is a taxi company that use meter plus 50 pesos. Grab car and VAN (100 pesos) services are also available.

Iloilo City is not a resort town but if you go further north or south of Iloilo you will find some gorgeous beaches and islands especially in Concepcion and Carles towns. Guimaras Island is just 15 to 20 minutes away. Good for island hoping

If you take a Grab, instead of a Taxi, you know they won’t overcharge you. They seem to have nice sidewalks in Iloilo. Maybe you have to bring your own Filipina to Iloilo instead of meeting one there.
