Man that is a beautiful fly. Bull-trout love a sculpin pattern. Don't lose it in the trees!

Doesnt having the weight on the shank cause the hook to ride upwards? I would think that would be upside down

That is a beautiful fly. I would like to see a demo of how it swims. Won't it swim upside down due to all the weight on the shank?

Thank you! I haven't tested this one yet but your right that there is always a risk with streamers that the center of gravity is too high. After all I believe this one will swim properly because the materials that are on the top of the hook are pretty light and causes a lot of drag while swimming. The hook is also heavy and it works as a keel. I also use metal eyes tied in the under side of the hook in many sculpin flies. I may do some swimming videos with my gopro in the summer!

Thanks for the reply. The eyes on the underside would certainly work. Take a look at Oliver Edwards' Waggy Tail Sculpin. I have tested that one. The swimming attitude and action are great, and the fish (bass) love it. I will test it in trout water soon.

Gerald G Yes the waggy tail is an awesome looking- and fishing fly. I'll be tying those for next season!

I would think that a sculpin hangs out at the bottom of the river and a fly that rides hook point up would be more natural and less bottom snagging

Thanks! I bought this (Griffin Odyssey Spider Vise) about five years ago. It has been working very well to this day. It doesen't have any special functions but works well for me. In my opinnion all you need for a vise is a good grip and rotation.

I used permanent pro markers. Any kind of water resistant marker should work.
