One note on the microfibbet tails for new tyers, be careful with the length when tying patterns like this. They are much stiffer than an actual trico tail and if they’re tied in too long, the tails can actually push the fly out of the fishes mouth. I learned this the hard way 😂

Hi Joseph, I'v never experienced this myself, but a good tip if thats the case...

Barry you cagey rascal, what an ideal way to splay the 3 tails of the trico. There is a variation that has a slim extended body off the hook. Have you tried to tie that one yet??? Love your stuff.

This Spring in Eastern Ontario, this pattern in size 18 was a big hit with the brookies! Thanks again Barry. Thanks again for such a bang up job on the instruction in this quality video!

Love the spinner patterns.Very realistic.I had learned from the famed Carl Richards and Doug Swisher on how they would tie in the tails and divide the tail fibers with a tiny dubbing ball.If three tails,center was tied in first then the dubbing ball,then the two outer fibers.So enjoy your work.

I know I’m late but I can’t find died black moose mane hair anywhere, do you remember where you got it
@Thefeatherbender
@Thefeatherbender Год назад
Hi Alec, you don't need dyed but natural black moose mane. You can get it from Natures Spirit.

Very cool! How do you keep the moose hairs staying side by side when wrapping them, mine always wants to split apart?
@Thefeatherbender
@Thefeatherbender 5 лет назад
Thanks Gordon, You have to make sure that the two hairs are touching side by side when you tie them in and that you wrap them parallel taking care not to twist or cross them. Once you have made the first wrap, use your thumb nail just to push the hairs together, it should all be good after that. Good luck!

I had the same problem as Gordon, at the end of the body. I got over it when using moose mane by applying a TINY smear of Super Glue, then winding slowly. More recently I've gone over to Veniards Super Stretchy Floss, using two colours to simulate segment banding. For really small sizes I split the floss. It's magic stuff, changing diameter as stretching pressure is changed, and having a pleasing translucency. Surprisingly, it seems to float. I use synthetic paintbrush fibres for tails. There are enough fibres in a 1/2" brush for 4,986 flies. Aero Wing seems to float a bit better than standard Antron.

Is this a dry fly pattern or an emerger? I’d love to see this in a tank of water just to show how it would present. Awesome Tie!!!
@Thefeatherbender
@Thefeatherbender 2 года назад
Hi Mr T, its a dry fly and floats flat on the waters surface.

By moose hair are you referring to body hair or mane
@Thefeatherbender
@Thefeatherbender 5 лет назад
Hi David, yes its moose mane. When buying try and find some with long straight hair with a good mix of colours.

@@Thefeatherbender cool I might have to order some. The Moose Mane I have is quite old and kinda curly
@Thefeatherbender

Hi David, always good to have some long straight moose main, it makes tying so much easier. One of the best suppliers is Natures Spirit.
