This is an short video series aimed at showcasing the most basic predator fly patterns - the Bucktail Deceiver and BULKHead Deceiver - and how to adapt them to best fit your conditions and forage species. These two flies can be tied with bare minimum materials, are extremely durable, and are flat out some of the most successful predator flies ever designed. I had the pleasure of filming this series down in Brazil this past Oct. and put these flies through the ringer with great success fooling many large Peacock Bass. Weather your targeting trophy Amazon Peacocks, Northwoods Smallmouth and Musky, or East Coast Stripers - these are the flies that will get you started and follow you for a lifetime of success on the water.
Materials:
Hook: Ahrex 60 degree Bent Predator 2/0
2 sizes of Bucktail
Hedron Polar Flash
Thread: 140 Veevus Power Thread
Intro Music by : Silence the Assembly, song: Deaf Eyes

You the one make me start fly tying for bass. And this is the absolutely most basic easy way to start. There is no need for more complicated. Any color combo you want. Add eyes.

I never comment on videos but as a beginner I have learned so much about tying from you and actually caught my first few fish on a fly rod off of the patterns in this series. Thanks so much man! Keep it up!

Hi Gunnar, I have been enjoying watching your varies streamer tying videos. I do notice that every now and then, even a seasoned pro like you may cut your thread, or even yourself, accidentally on the hook point when not paying attention. I have seen this many times on other tying videos as well. When I tie, especially when tying a large fly with a lot of materials, I put a small flexible tube over the hook point - kind of a hook point condom if you will, and it eliminated the possibility of the thread or me getting cut. I find that I can wrap much quicker as well because I no longer have to worry about the hook point. It is such a simple thing to do, and I wonder why I have never seen anyone else do this. So I am sharing it here in hopes that you will try it and share it with the world. Cheers.

Hi Gunnar, Very much appreciate your slow, methodical, in depth descriptions as you tie. Awesome. I’m very new to tying, any chance you could use a fish mask in lieu of the weighted head to achieve similar action? Best Mike

What are some rivers to wade for musky in Wisconsin?
@Gunnar_Brammer

You can wade fish or shore fish plenty of WI's Musky Waters - especially any Musky River with a Dam - usually prime access. The Wisconsin River for starters has many dam access. Wisconsin's DNR has a list of all the states musky waters, rivers included. But you'll have to do some research

Your 3 streamers are good, however you could make it in a more concise single video. Too much time for an information.

16 minutes for a fly tutorial is too long? Idk about you but that seems pretty quick.
