I originally designed the Impostor back in 2016, based on a Dubbing Brush Concept I learned from Larry Dahlberg - this videos aims to update that tutorial and showcase how to Stack the Fly from various fibers without the need for a dubbing brush.
This style of "Synthetic Flashtail" Baitfish is nothing new in my arsenal. It can be seen in the Original Imposter, Allspark, Critt'r Get'r, and MEGA Jerk. This style of fly has proved itself over the years not just for Midwest Esox, but for any situation in which a large profiled baitfish imitation is needed. The pattern has landed Pike, Musky, Smallmouth, FL Largemouth, Snook, Tarpon, and Peacock Bass to name a few.
The 6/0 hook easily accommodates a 8" full profile pattern, yet it can be scaled down with the same material set to roughly 6", ideally suited for a 4/0
You can find all the materials on my website: www.streamersbygunnar.com/

Thanks Gunnar, I been fly fishing and fly tying for 15 years. Your channel and website is the best I've seen. I've only one problem ... I tie more flies than I actually fish. Fly tying is a separate art and I enjoy it.

Just amazing, really enjoy your teaching expertise. Love the way that vise is holding that hook so sturdy and steady as you work.

You better get started! I imagine you'll want a box full of these. I start tying over winter when I'm not fishing and aim to get 500 tied and ready for me and some buddies. This video fired me up and I'll be trying these for night fishing for big browns.

Excellent tie as always, Thank you Gunnar!!😊Hey, Can you please give me some info about the kind of U.V. light you use, and what dealer it can be purchased from? It looked like it was "Corded-light", and not really a flashlight??!!

Great tie! Since Esox will T bone a fly do you ever add a 2nd stinger hook, or is the single 6/0 appropriate? It looks like the hook is in the front third of the fly. Nobody likes a missed fish... 😎

Hy Gunnar, I was just wandering if you had used Tiemco 8089 in your arsenal??? But I will definetly "copy&scale down" and try to get a Brown trout bug.

amazing pattern and tie, but the hook is a way too small man. 6/0 at least would be my choice. Thank you for sharing!Tight lines!

Look for big fly fiber straight and you can break it out of the package to use it in full Length

Go back! Edit out the comments talking about your sales motives for using brushes! Repost! (Just a few frames.) Nobody needs to know that and it will offend some of your customers.
@Gunnar_Brammer
@Gunnar_Brammer 3 года назад
No...The motivation had nothing to do with sales, it had everything to do with unexplored territory. It had everything to do with bringing new ideas to the table. It had everything to do with problem solving instead of simply imitating other tiers. The Brushes allowed me to develop the proportions (core and wing lengths) and rational behind them (friction and balance) that otherwise I would have never known. Even though this is tied without a brush, it is very much so the same pattern because of the trial and error of having taught myself dubbing brush design. If honesty if offensive, so be it. And if the motivation was monetary, by bringing new solutions to tying and creativity within the streamer discipline, why would that be frowned upon? It is not a falsehood, nor a scheme....just a different approach.

@@Gunnar_Brammer I don't for a moment believe you intended anything negative. I only said something because I care. What it sounds like is this: [You taught us these difficult brushes because nobody was doing them, and that gave you an entry into the tying world--to promote yourself.] Things like that may be true and acceptable but never should be said.

@@Gunnar_Brammer ...because I don't want to do anything to discourage you from what your doing so well.

If you are looking for cookie cutter clones, the brush is a go to. If you are a fly tying artist type the bullet tie gives you more flexibility. Can manipulate the fibers more. As Hunter stated six of one, half dozen of the other.
