Hi Tim, nice presentation. I like the techniques on the wire and taper. What's up with soft wire vs any other wire? Besides being an attractor pattern I have no idea what it imitates, perhaps the sillouette of a baetis but I have no knowledge of that speices habitat. The fact that you fish it in faster water makes sense with the patterns attributes. It's sleek and heavy, tied in the round, no moving parts to speak of. If the fish blinks they miss it. I don't know much about competitive trouters other than their methods and popularity of the flies, they work for them. They get down fast, which I imagine is paramount in a competition. As much as I like big & buggy, I think I'll have to try tying smaller (as we've discussed before) and this sleek flashy style. Thanks Tim 👍😎

You're welcome, Joe, and you're right about your take on the pattern. It sinks quick and he fish have a brief moment to make a decision. Soft versus other? The UNI that I use is a tad softer than some and breaks easily. It's a medium wire, which is what I like to create that contrast on the body. If you need additional specifics, let me know. Thanks again, and I hope all is well. Tim

Hello Tim, I am interested in doing some creek fly fishing for bass this coming spring and am wanting to know some decent flies to have ready for both smallmouth and largemouth. I love all your videos and am interested to hear what you have to say. Thanks!

Thanks for the message, Colton, and I typically recommend a few to start. Woolly Buggers (especially orange), crayfish patterns, a slider, and a Gurgler. Another nice fly I also like fishing flies tied on jig hooks. It seems to me that I get much better hook ups. What sizes do you fish this in.

Thanks for the comments, Peter, and this has been a winner for me all spring and into the summer. I fished it primarily between sizes #14 and #18. Hope all is well! Tim www.troutandfeather.com

Can this jig style pattern also be used under a dry/dropper rig?
@TimCammisa
@TimCammisa 5 лет назад
Absolutely, Ryan, though you may have to vary the sizes of either this nymph or the dry to ensure it will float. Sometimes when fishing dry-dropper, I'll have a larger pattern (i.e. foam dry fly), which will suspend a larger nymph. However, when fishing with smaller dry flies, the nymph must also be reduced so it won't pull the dry under. Experiment with the sizes and see what works for you. Good luck, and Happy New Year! What’s the difference between ultra and soft wire?
@TimCammisa
@TimCammisa 6 лет назад
Nate, in my mind they are very similar. The UNI Soft Wire appears to be a tad softer to me, but don't be afraid to use one versus the other. I like it's diameter especially for this pattern because it gives a nice contrast to the body material. Tim

Ha ha, you and me both! A buddy of mine ties a Sulphur spinner with glow-in-the-dark material, which is cool! Check it out here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ryzFBLMrtl4.html Thanks for taking the time to comment. Tim www.troutandfeather.com
