This is where we need a lawyer to step in and sue the FAA over that utter BS rule that if you've ever been denied a medical, you can't do sport pilot. If nothing else, it proves that you are perfectly able to fly even under some conditions the FAA doesn't like... and that needs to change. It's already messed up that it takes 12-14 MONTHS and a $2500 exam to try to get a waiver. This is all stuff that needs to change.

I agree. But getting the FAA to make common sense regulations isn't always the easiest.

FAA doesn't operate with logic, or reasonableness. 12-14 months is quick I know someone who has been waiting over 2 1/2 years because in the 1990's they bumped their head in a motorcycle accident was knocked out. They got it all checked out an MRI and everything back then now they want all those tests done over again. He got all that done the neurologist didn't write what the FAA wants so takes them 10-12 months to ask another question and request more testing done. Just going back and forth with them takes 10 months by letter. It's like the 17th century where took 5 months for your family to read your letter you mailed to them. He had to get a MRI and EEG with a flashing light to see if he would have a seizure. Can' you imagine 30 year old accident they think going to have seizures after no symptoms for 30 years.

She is! And she had her foot controls at EAA this year for her impossible plane. Really fun! I survived, but had a prop strike...

All the best, Jessica, in your awesome adventure! This story hit home for me when I thought of my dad. He wanted to get his pilot's license but was blocked from it for minor medical reasons. He definitely had a driver's license and years of experience with big rigs, tractors, and even the dreaded mini-van and early 90s SUVs. I wonder if he would have been able to fly through this certificate if it had been available back when he was trying to get in the air. Hopefully, the info can help others pursue aviation who might overwise be kept on the ground.

According to part 67.401, they can also get a private pilot certificate if they prove to FAA representatives/AME that they're safe to operate an airplane.

That’s what I’m working on right now. It’s a long slow process and it can get expensive in some cases. It used to be called a Statement of Demonstrated Ability but now I believe it’s called a Medical Flight Review.

I wonder. Where do I go to get a check before doing this to get the class 3 when I can I’ll use my drivers license if I can’t be a ppl but I’m 13 lol

If someone I know is very interested in becoming a private pilot but is currently taking ADHD medication, do you think that getting a sport pilot license while going off of medication and waiting to be eligible for the 4 year fast track ADHD program would be a good option? Asking 4 a friend.

Not sure what you're talking about with the 4 year program, but for the sport pilot license doesn't require a medical. If you're planning on making a career out of it, checkout our medical certificate video and do a AME consult first! If you get denied for a medical certificate you can loose your ability to become a pilot.

i’m so glad I found it Video but oh my God I have to be honest what in the world keeps you from showing, how this woman steers the airplane? I am handicaped myself having just one hand that I can use and I would like to find out how it can be done. I am not helped with seeing a woman standing next to the airplane talking about how she has accomplished it but without telling the audience how she is actually using the controls inside the airplane. Even with her airplane the throttle needs to be used and the stick of the yoke need to be used so could you please show how she’s doing it in the next video that would be really nice because like this it’s not really helpful. But it’s very good that you mentioned the website that she had created. thanks man. by the way it would be interesting to learn whether I would be allowed to fly a plane with an American code sign having an American license because in Germany sadly it is impossible to get a plane rebuilt like she does and have it certified by the German FAA. The LBA ( Luftfahrtbundesamt) in Germany is considered to be Germanys biggest flight obstacle.

She flys with her feet. =) If you checkout her channel there is video of her flying. The plane she uses has no rudder though, allowing her to use her feet for everything she needs.

New light sport rules published by FAA today. 1. Speed to 200 knots 2. Weight to 3000lbs 3. Constant speed prop 4. Retractable gear 5. Four place aircraft 6. Turbine engines 7. Night flight 8. Helicopters

@flywiththeguys It would take a significant effort from those who oppose the new rules to alter the proposal too far from what is proposed. I have read through it and it delivers on every front

@flywiththeguys seems from most discussion board, there is some confusion about light sport needing to have medical before flying at night. Page 121 in the proposal. Doesn't make sense to allow sport to fly at Night only with a medical, when if we had medical, we wouldn't need sport in the first place.

@@mauriceevans6546 That was completely ridiculous they say sport pilots fly at night because they get caught away from home have no training. Yet they can't let go of the medical because they think you could be color blind they want a medical. I sent in my comment to them why not require a AME to do a color blind test and sign off in their log book all they need. What is the point of it all if you have a medical. Regulators tend to over regulate because it justifies their existence. More regulation requires more employees and more money spent on them.
