Yeah it is. It's called Injustice Superman, which I have no idea why everyone hates. Snyder loved the series and wanted to make it into a movie version. According to all of you though, Superman is peaceful, selfless, helpful, and monster slaying being. The world is upgrading now, love with it.

@@danielkeller5424 Spiteful and dour doesn't seem like an upgrade from optimism and love. I genuinely like injustice superman in a vacuum, but the entire reason he works is because he goes against everything superman is supposed to be. If regular superman is basically the same as injustice superman, both lose their purpose in the world. We need to be selfless and helpful to others, and the world is better for each individual person like that. Our heroes representing that is a good thing. (Though, it's certainly not bad to have protagonists that aren't like that, but superman isn't the character to do that with.)| A lot of the edgy modern comics landscape, I feel, comes from a fundamental misunderstanding of works like Watchmen. The point of Watchmen isn't that the world is shitty or that people are inherently awful, that was the stance the villain of the story held. The point of Watchmen is how none of the superhumans in the narrative could understand the depths of human compassion because they were so divorced from normal humanity. The point of the book was in scenes like a hot dog vendor trying to shield a kid he had a few conversations with from the attacks of one of the superhumans. It's possible to tell more grounded stories while not missing the point of why humans have compassion in the first place.

@@DovahkriidRoy I mean I fully agree but that's a weird narrative to attach to Superman and there wasn't really any natural shift in Snyder's works or the new 52 to show him becoming the icon of positivity (and given mandates during the n52 era that heroes couldn't marry bc they didn't need to be happy, it seems like it was always going to be defeatistly dour which misses the point of most of it's heroes including batman)

The coolest aspect of Returns was that it was a continuation.

Routh was an excellent Superman, but it was a badly written movie in which Superman was a weird stalker who fought a sexual predator.

I loved Man of Steel and Superman Returns was not bad (not original enough though. I can’t understand why some think MOS is not a good Superman film. I found it to be a near perfect modernization.

Philippe Alain but they were both incredibly successful and popular. Batman vs Superman and Justice league were critical disasters, with the latter also being a financial disaster.

​@@leonwoodford, at the time, but things are changing. Solo was a flop because of the boycott that resulted from the disappointment of episode 7 and 8, and other Star Wars spin-off films have been cancelled. And most important, commercial success is not a guarantee of quality.

He's what kept the Superman movies alive. Snyder said he would do less active movies after BvS, but they fired him before he had a chance to do it.

His films still make money. JJ knows how to please a crowd, provided said crowd doesn't think for more than a second about what they're watching.
