Man of Steel: The Best Superman Movie? 

A great movie, I like it even with It's flaws, it would have been nice to see a Man of steel 2 movie and more of Henry Cavill as Superman

The score from Hans Zimmer is pure 🔥🔥🔥

I loved so much about it. Some of my favorite parts: - All the young Clark scenes. - All the Kent family scenes. - The oil rig rescue. - The homage to Superman 2 with the bar fight. - The first Flight scene. - The Smallville brawl. - the final scenes joining The Daily Planet. - And of course, the amazing score.

I loved it then... love it just the same if not more. Also fiora was definitely memorable! Score was perfect!

This movie may have its flaws but over the last decade I think it's beginning to be a classic just like the previous ones. And the first flight scene showing Superman discovering, mastering and literally enjoying his flying powers is really something I re-watch regularly and it has one of the best movie soundtracks too.

I don't understand why people still think Superman's responsible for the damage in Metropolis.

Personally I though that his killing Zodd helped cement his reason for never killing again. It was the the most difficult choice he had to make after KC made the choice for him not save him to protect his identity

I remember the first time I saw this. When I saw the part where Zod communicated with the whole world at the same time tripped me out.

Zimmer's score is one of the best things about Man of Steel. I don't miss the Williams score at all, as great and iconic as it is.

If you guys do a video on Justice League it should be a two part story, one on the Josstice League cut and the Snyder cut.

Man of Steel feels like Superman if it happened in our world, realistic and gritty. Best DCEU film, and 10 years later, nothing has come close with the movies that have come out since.

I just watched it again recently and definitely enjoyed it. Henry Cavill is literally the PERFECT embodiment of Superman and not having the campy tone of the first original ones was a good idea 💡. You can still have it darker, make it your own while still keeping certain things form the source . Such a travesty,he deserved 2 movies.

Growing and watching Superman the movie and the quote for that movie was ( You will believe that a man can fly ). Christopher Reaves was a great Superman and I never thought that I'd like to see another man in that costume. Brandon did OK with Superman Returns. Henry came in with a really good cast to help. Mr. If you build it, he will come man himself and Mr. Are you not entertained as Kal-Els dad. Amy Adam's did a very good job playing LoLo. Even though I will never put a person about Christopher, I can put one man on the side of him and that's Henry. I was so happy when Henry said that he was coming back to play his role again. Then very mad when they said nope, never-ending we are going another way now. I wanted to see Black Adam and Superman tee off together. But I guess that's not gonna happen now. Heart broken is all I can say.

Shannon was amazing as Zod... he made him menessing and believable as a foe for Supes to interact with. Russell was a great Jor-el.

Faora was such formidable menacing villain too.

Wow! you just showed me in 14 mins that you didn't understand what tone Goyer/Nolan/Snyder were going for with Man of Steel or even really understand the plot and motivations of the characters...well done.

One thing that is missing, how isolated Ka El feels. That is an element I wish it would be explore in future movies. I know in will never happen. Isolation doesn't sell

I like Cavill a lot. But Christopher Reeve is yet to be topped as Cinema's finest Man of Steel.

The opening on Kryton is the best bit of the whole movie.

Amy Adams was also in a single episode of Smallville, back when she was young and fresh-faced. I also loved Michael Shannon in a movie called Take Shelter... or maybe just Shelter. He was great.

Usually a watch for me at least once a year. People arguing how many died during the fight, never made sense to me. Two "gods" battling it out would result in that damage. Not to mention Zod was going to destroy the entire population of the planet.

They cast these roles perfectly.

I thought Man Of Steel was the best Superman film yet. I loved the Christopher Reeve films when I was a kid but they do look very dated now. Henry Cavill did what Daniel Craig initially did for James Bond ie turned him into a real hard man.

I think the terrific actress DIANE LANE (always underrated and overlooked) was FABULOUS as Martha Kent. The cast did their job.

No offense to Henry, he did what he was supposed to, but this movie is awful. Zach Snyder loves spectacle not story and on his way to having a city-destroying fight, he undermines Clark's upbringing by having his parents so paranoid that he has no reason to become a hero. I can't get over his father telling Clark that maybe he should have let children die to protect his secret and then dying a preventable death because he still was trying to protect his secret. I have never seen Superman let someone die to protect his secret identity until Zach Snyder took over. There's a reason Zod was in Superman 2 before. Jumping right in with Kryptonians before any other villains doesn't allow room to establish his character, which is why Snyder's Superman doesn't have any. He's very blah. And it only gets worse as the Snyderverse continues.

Man of Steel is the perfect movie for people who hate the character of Superman and don't understand him whatsoever.

Yes, there was controversy with the destruction and Supes killing Zod, but when you look at Christopher Reeve killing Zod and then smiling it's nothing. Given WBD's recent announcement that Dead Boy Detectives is going to Netflix, the push for Netflix to lease the rights to the Sndyerverse is gaining momentum. Man of Steel is a fantastic film. I am a huge Superman fan and the movie was everything I always wanted to see in a live-action Superman film. It got my friends who always thought Superman was boring, interested in the character. My father, who was a big Marvel head back in the day, loved everything about it. The best thing about it to me was that the film remembered that Superman truly isn't the All-American Guy, he's an immigrant, a refugee. And in America, especially nowadays, immigrants are NOT wholly embraced, loved, or even trusted at first or even at all. A being like Superman existing on Earth would cause all kinds of issues both personal, political, and international. Clark being hesitant to reveal himself and Pa Kent's fear of his exposure makes perfect sense in that kind of setting. The fight scenes were a marvel to watch and loved how dynamic, destructive, and almost overwhelming it all was. This is what a Superman-level threat would look like. Of course there would be massive causalities and destruction. It's Superman's first day on the job after all. I can understand some of the criticisms but most just come off as really shallow and just comparing this movie to other incarnations which goes against the point of the entire film which was to build its own identity. Man of Steel is a great film. And is indeed my favorite Superman movie.

I really like Man of Steel. My only issue is that I think the movie is a little unbalanced, like all the action takes place in the back half whereas the first half is mainly setup. Granted, I actually like the setup more than the action, I just would have spaced out the action scenes more. Maybe that would have made the ending feel a little less bloated to me

Grew up on the Donner films as an 80s kid...Man of Steel is the better of them.

When I finally realized that there was hate for this movie, I didn't understand it. It's a great movie. Henry Cavill is great. He put in the work. "It's too dark ." What?! It's very realistic. It's actually very light, considering that all his life, Clark was the last of his kind, and then he finds out that he's not, but his people want to destroy, and the take over the only home he's ever known, and kill everyone he ever cared about. He actually took it insanely well.

Lol, Generic Action movie as criticism ? The film is a fresh air in sea of generic Superhero movies. MoS is like fine wine, getting better with time. Critic was looking for a superhero movie like Siperman, MCU. But DK trilogy, The Batman, MoS & ZSJL is closest to Cinema superhero genre has ever been.

Great video but I think the absence of Lex and the John Williams Theme were necessary as Snyder and WB were trying to establish a new Superman.

Superman killing Zod is not murder, killing someone is not automatically murder. If it was, we should be imprisoning every soldier on Earth, murder is considered to be unjustified killing. Zod was an active threat to the wellbeing of the human race and to Superman, so Superman killing him was not murder but a form of self-defense. He would never go to trial for this because he didn't commit murder. He didn't want to kill him, he didn't enjoy it, and he only made a split-second decision to save people. He's not a murderer. Superman is not responsible for the destruction of the Metropolis. He's still new to this job, he's a young Superman and inexperienced. The blame solely falls on Zod who is responsible, so no, the blame is not on him.

This movie will become more legendary over time than any other superhero popcorn mash. It will age like wine.

I found the destruction of the city and the thoughts of civilians being killed by the fighting disturbing. Maybe I’ll never get used to it after 911.

This movie was perfect. Perfect. Everything, down to the last minute detail.

Its definitely NOT the best Superman movie ever but its a film that has really improved upon repeat viewing.

For me personally, its one of the best Comics movies over all, including the end. Finally we saw, what really happens, when two nearly gods clash with each other in a big town. This was developed even further in the batman vs superman movie. Talking about Antje Traue: Well. She is from germany. I am from germany. So i wont forget her. xD Loved her performance.

I love this movie. There's definitely nostalgia involved when it comes to me liking it, but the visuals, music, tone and characters etc felt amazing. Plus I'm sure there were enough typical Superman moments, the end being the most notable one.

I admire your commitment to showing what's going on with these films; actors, directors, producers, and your love of the adaptation genre. But they are hollow, and at core, popcorn sellers. A few moments of drama, at best. This is from a guy in love with comics at 7, now 61 years. So many possibilities reduced to mechanical tropes. Gimme the Howard The Duck reboot.

When you're punched through a building, there's very little chance to prevent collateral damage. Blame Zod for that.

2 things 1) His father is a psycopath, tells him not to use his powers and let people die. 2) He didn't have to kill Zod, he just had to move his head, they really forced that grimdark brooding superman, it feels rushed and bad.

This is movie is getting better with time . I had the change to be in london at the premier and see Henry and Russel in person . This movie got a manage to have a soundtrack, a super awesome villain !! Much better than many many comic book movies . Still don’t get why people didn’t like it .

Wut? Fiora wasn't "memorable"? Must be the reason why many fans were clamoring for her to show up somehow again since that film. Man of Steel is a terrific film, and personally the more I watch it the more I come to realize how great it is. From the casting, the action, the story arc, and even those choices that some considered bad, it is great all around. (And let's not forget that amazing score by Hans Zimmer). Those choices all had a purpose. Unlike nowadays when we hear terms like "subverting expectations" or "deconstructing" thrown out emptily to make it seem a project is deeper than what it actually is or that there was forethought put in the project, there was actually purpose and thought put on the decisions in that film. Much like Batman Begins had shown in greater detail how and why Bruce Wayne became Batman, MoS shows how and why Clark Kent becomes Superman. It is easy to dismiss this as something that had been done already but it wasn't. Be it the Reeves movies or the Routh one we usually saw a fully formed, already experienced Superman or how he discovered his powers, but not how he became the hero we all know. That's what MoS was doing. The other aspects many have issues with is that the moment he puts the suit on many took that as meaning he was that fully formed, experienced Superman and thus had trouble reconciling the fact that by the end of the movie he still isn't. He is many things but not yet the beacon the world knows. It is his first mission and he barely just got into the daily planet. He is on his way to being the Supes we know but his story arc to get there won't get resolved until two movies later when, by the end of Justice League (the 2021 good one and not the crappy 2017 one), you see the iconic character now in personality and all. Snyder and co. were playing the long game with the DCEU, which clearly WB didn't have patience for. And that is the thing with Snyder's style that rubbed many the wrong way: love his style or hate it he wasn't spelling everything in detail in the style people had become used to with Marvel movies. His films communicate as much just visually as they do verbally, and trusts the audience is intelligent to figure it out. In rewatching MoS, BvS EC, and ZSJL, it is clear there was a clear goal and vision to the whole story that many missed on first viewing. We weren't starting with the characters at their fully formed best and as we have come to know them iconically, but at different points a step early to have them develop into those iconic characters when everything was said and done. Even the much maligned Lex Luthor interpretation of the character in BvS, which makes more sense on second viewing, is starting to be the Lex we know by the end of JL (2021). In any case, MoS is probably the best Superman movie. Sad we never will get to see the fully complete vision of what started with that movie and those characters.

Huge fan of this movie. Unfortunately everything after it kind of diminished the realism they were going for in this iteration, but at least we have this one great movie.

Seeing this at the theater too close to the screen the shaky cam stuff annoyed me. After watching it at home I fell in love with this movie and rewatch it often.

The casting was pitch perfect. The script and directing left A LOT to be desired. The final conflict at the end is ridiculously contrived seeing as the Super Weapon is a machine that can terraform any planet into a Krypton-like world, Superman could have easily been like "Hey, I get you wanna rebuild Krypton, and while I think Krypton has had its time, why don't you head to Mars, the next planet over out from the sun (which is already devoid of life) and rebuild Krypton there. Once you're settled we can figure out a better way forward for Terrans and New Kryptonians." Secondly, they were WAY off the mark with Superman as a character. His greatest superpower (and greatest weakness) isn't his strength or invulnerability; it's his passion, nay, compulsion to help the greater good. And this comes from both of his fathers; one gave him the abilities to help the greatest good in unimaginably epic ways, the other gave him his love for humanity. This can be best contrasted by Glenn Ford's line "You are here for a reason. I don't know whose reason, or whatever the reason is... I don't know. But I do know, it's not to score touchdowns," compared to Kevin Costner's reply to Clark who had just asked if he should have let a bus full of his classmates die, "I don't know." A better line would have been "Of course not, son. Every life is valuable. But you have to be more discrete until you're really ready to show the world this side of you." The fact that this version of Kal-El is hesitant to come forward and do the right thing is a slap in Superman's face. I don't entirely blame the script, but when you pair that script with a director who took Watchmen's cautionary tale and made him to be the hero, you know he's not the right director for arguably the greatest symbol of hope, peace and justice in pop-culture of the last century.

The thing I never understood about the complaints of Superman killing General Zod. In Superman II from 1978, he crushed Zod's hand and threw him into a crevice and Lois kicked Ursa into another crevice. In Man of Steel, he was forced into making a compassionate decision based on the people in front of him he could save and he did. Why is the Zod's death in Superman II not criticized as much as Man of Steel's? Regardless, this is one of my favorite superhero films of all time, and I find it incredibly comforting, hopeful, and engaging. Batman v Superman had a lot of flaws but there are a lot of scenes and messages that I find really engaging. the 2021 Justice League really captured the feeling and message that was started in Man of Steel, and I loved all of the characters especially Cyborg, and Batman.

Even without Beteridge's Law, the answer to the headline question is still an emphatic "no". As perfect a casting as Cavill is, Snyder has zero understanding of what makes the character and his attempt is pretty much the worst portrayal of Superman until his second attempt.

No, it was the worst. The best Superman movie was Superman II with Christoper Reeve (Man of Steel is a kind of a remake of that movie). The performances of Chris and Margot cannot be beat and Zimmer's score is nowhere near and iconic as John Williams' Superman movie soundtrack.

just rewatched man of steel and henry cavil really couldve nailed a brighter tone in a seuel. he really is just that good of an actor. one part of the movie that felt weird when i first watched it and juist now is when jonathan kent says maybe to letting the kids die. its just so jarring. man of steel 2 wouldve benefited from Lex as the villian. not the BvS Lex, a different actor

This movie absolutely sucks. Superman murders Zod. Superman's dad tells him it's ok to let people die to protect his identity. The plot is absolutely inane as well.

While I enjoy it for the most part, Man of Steel is way too dark and gritty for a Superman film. It needed to have a lighter tone. If you don't leave the theater energized and instead are a bit melancholy, it didn't work.

M.O.S. was the pits. Totally nonsensical plot and illogical decisions by most characters. "Confused Matthew" summed it up very nicely.

Man, such a great movie. You really could follow the evolving mindset of the main character, with even the destruction happening due to his inexperience in how to respond. I don't think people have seen DC animation before if they think Superman gets into fight with no destruction involved. My main critique is Lois Lane. She came off as abrasive and annoying rather than tough and street smart.

Nice take. I don't agree about the villains. I actually found the henchwoman way more intimidating than Shannon's Zod. They gave her some pretty scary, otherworldly scenes.

Acting is good, music was great, but the plot is bad.

Man of Steel was a decent film but, Zach Synder doesn't get what makes Superman the hero he is. The majority of people rejected his vision of the character and the DC world.

Great film, showing Superman with flaws and not a perfect, like other Superman films and TV shows. The big fight at the end was needed for Superman to learn to control how much and when he should use his full power.

I liked the first half of this film but the second half that's full of action bored me to death. I do love Zimmer's score though.
