Then they went all the way past the Devils, Bruins, and Canadiens to the Stanley Cup finals just to lose in 6 games to Chicago. I still can't even believe they at least made it that far. Nobody saw that coming. Easily one the franchises greatest and most successful "failed" playoff runs, if at all just for the Boston series alone.
really? as a Bruins fan i thought that team was nasty besides Boucher. ill argue till the day i die that the Bruins didnt choke. they sucked and were missing Siedenberg, Krecji and Sturm in games they lost. they also had Savard rush back from the Cooke hit, Lucic was young and had a bad high ankle sprain and injury plagued season, Miroslav Satan was picked up halfway through the year off the street, Bergeron was still struggling from that hit Randy Jones gave him a few years prior (he wasnt the 30 goal guy he was b4 the hit and didnt reach it again until this year). we traded Kessel the year before and hadnt drafted Seguin yet. no Horton, Cambell, Kelly, Peverly and Thomas was still just decent then. and the flyers had a young but talented team with Hartnell, JVR, Briere, Giroux, Richards, Carter, Gange, Pronger, Carle, Timonen, Villie Leno and you also had gritty bottom 6 guys like asham and i cant remember the guys name he won game 7 against det for the penguins a few years earlier. if the flyers had a better coach and a better goalie iu felt like they could be right there with the hawks and bruins during this short era that started in 2010 as the best teams. (i think Philly would be where LA is)
pat442389 I don't know if I'd say the Bruins sucked. Every game in the series was neck and neck/decided by one goal, with the exception of game 3 (Boston) and game 5 (Philadelphia), and 2 OT games as well. A 7 game series can easily deflate both teams. The Flyers were just lucky enough to have caught fire just at the right time since Simon Gagne made a return from injury and Jeff Carter went down to injury, which allowed Ville Leino to dress and play on the Flyers most potent playoff scoring lines ever formed, the Hartnell-Briere-Leino line. That line was a brilliant fluke, in my opinion.
Hambone Jones but i wouldnt classify as a choke because the bruins werent good or even the favorite. that bruins team lost 10 or 11 straight games that season and had some decent players like Chara, Krejci, Lucic, Thomas, Savard, Ryder, Bergeron and Wheeler but all of them besides Chara werent at their peak or coming back from serious injury. and am i the only one who thought that Flyer team was stacked? i think they would have won more conference titles and maybe even a cup if they stayed together. and most series are pretty close the bruins were well coached, had Chara in his prime and actually Rask was playing that year in his first real season because Thomas was hurt.
Not sure if it’s just me but every single time I watch Olli Jokinen continuously circle around his own zone as he prepares just moments before he must make the biggest all or nothing shootout attempt of his career, I get insane chills every time.
And so began one of the most memorable playoff runs in NHL history. It was a huge bummer that the Flyers didn’t win the cup, but it was still an amazing ride.
@@LordKalte He had two moves he did in shootouts and he chose wrong one. Boucher knew already what his going to do. Also Christensen, Parenteau and Jokinen hadn't played since 2nd period.
As a ranger fan this was so hard to watch but I'm glad we've made it eve since and the flyers haven't and ill give the flyers credit for the run they put on in that year of the playoffs
Me too. It's funny cause Giroux said in the interview that high glove side wasn't open, but from the camera behind the goal, the hole seems to be there on the glove side. I guess it was closed from his point of view
it hurts so much that the most key guys for this shootout are gone. boosh might be in our booth next year, briere is the damn general manager, and giroux after 16 years in the organization (lmao) is gone
I will never forget this day. I had just come back from France and my dad gave me tickets for me and my friend. The feeling when Boosh made the last save was the best feeling I've ever had! and to think the things that would come after this game! such a great playoff run! Go flyers forever!
@@mikeyt3784 Winningest expansion team in history. They're dogshit now but yeah... very few teams had a run like this with an AHL goaltender making the playoffs on a shootout win and coming back from 3-0 in a series and 3-0 in game 7.... So yeah.... one of the most impressive runs in sports history.
@@zachhamm3610 very impressive run, yes, but they are not the winningest expansion team even in their own little state, let alone in history. Pittsburgh has 5 cups.
An all time regular season classic with a playoff berth on the line for both teams!! And the Flyers in 2010 as the seventh seed pulled off a run to the Stanley Cup Finals.
I remember seeing this game. It was a heart breaker. As a New Yorkers and die hard Rangers fan, I felt so bad. But I still love my Rangers. That's still my team no matter what. Hopefully one day, I'll get to see them win the Stanley Cup again. LET'S GO RANGERS!!!!!!
Лучшая команда ,лучший год ,лучший капитан и неповторимый Бриер ,самый памятный плей-офф ,какой я когда либо видел ,а началось все с этого героического матча ,Let's go FLYERS!
NYR fan. What a game this was. Philly earned it, it's one I'll always remember watching. I think we're in store for a great Philly-NYR Eastern Conference finals this year.
Remember watching this at 8 years old I used to be the biggest die hard fan. Wasn't the same after they got rid of Carter and Mike in the same off-season
Man that song at start takes me back to my childhood most Saturdays during the season going to Hershey to watch the Bears, that and the song "the boys are back in town"
This game reminds much of the Blackhawks-Penguins game, it changed NHL history. If the Flyers lost this game, the Rangers would have had more points than the Flyers, and probably would've played the Caps, and the Habs would play the Devils. Would the Rangers upset the Capitals and humiliate them the way Halak did? Who knows. Nevermind the Flyers, no reverse sweep for them if they lost this game, as they would have been kept entirely out of the playoffs. Crazy how it works out, sometimes.
The flyers really should have one that cup just to top off their unbelievable Playoff story of barely making it in a shootout, Coming back against the bruins and Beating the favored Canadiens. It would have been something out of a movie.
Sebastian Caron. An average goalie at best but can make great saves when it counts, made a great in with the pens in 05 against the Flyers. It's kinda cool to see him in a flyers uniform after that great save he made against them.
My dad was too nervous to watch, so he went outside. I was too nervous to NOT watch. When Boosh made that final save I ran outside screaming, attracting many stares from my neighbors and their guests, who were all outside and had no idea why I was jumping and screaming like a nutcase. What a moment.
this was the year the Flyers went through like 5 different goalies, At this time Leighton was hurt, Caron was brought in just as a back up because we really didn't have anyone else. He never played a game for us. By the time the playoffs started Leighton was back.
I was at this game. I was also at game 6 later that season when the Blackhawks dummied the Flyers by winning the Cup on Philly's home rink and shutting Philly fans the fuck up. Loved every minute of that.
Was Watching : Sidney Crosby and Claude Giroux’s beef was painful, brief, and a showcase of hockey’s best rivalry......... needed to see Giroux goal ........THANKS JASON WINSLOW
And four years later none other than Daniel Carcillo scored one of the two Ranger goals in Game 7 to help secure the win against Philly in the ECQF amidst the Rangers very own Cup Final run. I’d say we’re even.
Funny that Briere and Giroux got us to the playoffs (and Boucher) in 2010. They will do the same in 2013 with our Captain Giroux and playoff payoff Briere and Boucher as our back up!
This was a sick game, winner gets into the playoffs as the 7th seed or something?? Flyers win which makes them the last team to get into the playoffs but then they are the first team to make it to the quarter finals then later on make it to the cup finals, would have been a sweet story for lord stanley though. . . and the Rags give Jokinen the boot!!!
Jesus, what could've been the ULTIMATE Cinderella story if we had won the Cup that season. Unfortunately, Leighton couldn't stop a beach ball in Game 6. Those goals were extremely soft, I still cringe on that Patrick Sharp goal. It was terrible. Ugh...
even though the hawks won in 2010 i have tons of respect for the flyers even though that series in 2010 was a hell of a series and you have to admit it. and i am a huge hawk fan as well flyer s are my 3rd favorite of course hawks all the way
I mean, the Flyers didn't even have a starting goalie, so consider yourself lucky. If we had an actual goalie that year, best believe we would've taken Chicago to seven games...
john gleason the rangers missed the playoffs because they were fighting for the 8th seed on the final day of the season, to me right there just tells me how they werent playing their best hockey that season, so jokinen may have missed 1 shot at the end, but the rangers a whole played bad enough all season to be in that situation, just like the flyers
+mrwoods22 Chicago is lucky it didn't go to 7 actually. Jeff Carter had the game winning goal on his stick in the closing minutes of Game 6 when he had an empty net to shoot at on the wraparound but blew it.
Not a rangers fan but to say lundqvist is the only player to have respect for is a bit low. Callahan is one of the most hardworking forwards in the league and a great captain. Girardi, one of the leaders in blocked shots and hits which are too very honourable stats. One of the best well-rounded Dmen in the nhl right now.
Who'd have thunk that the Flyers would go on to the finals. If they had any type of goalie they easily beat Chicago. Leighton was slightly average. Give them a Marc Andre Fluery type and they're champs.
I was there, i feel like whenever i go to a flyers game, fucking great ness happens. the game i went to this year was when hartnell scored with 5 seconds left in ot!!! go flyerss!!!!!!!!
