Flyfishing Fishermans Island National Wildlife Refuge in Virginia | 

The Eastern Shore of Virginia (ESVA) is full of acreage to explore. The fish move with the tides and the seasons looking for forage to fill their bellies. If you live on the south side of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (CBBT) then you'll need to pay a fee (about $22.00 in 2024) to access the ESVA by vehicle. There are many boat ramps to access the sloughs, drains and bays of ESVA.
I took a trip to Fishermans Island NWR looking for some places to hop out of the kayak and do the Stingray Shuffle as I waded for some fish foraging the flats. The Stingrays were definitely present and averaged about 3-4 feet in diameter. Redfish were moving with the tide along with the Baby Blues. I caught a few on the spinning rod and a few on the 9 ft 10 wt fly rod using Clousers and Deceivers.
Life is ticking....Better get fishing!
