Why do you start left one first? Does it matter?
@FlyWithKay
@FlyWithKay 2 дня назад
That's what you're taught. I believe it's because you can see the left prop. The right prop is obscured by the cabin. So is someone or something is where it shouldn't be, you could do some unintended chopping. BUT, you can see left and know it's clear. If someone (or something) was next to the right, the noise from the left would wake them up to a starting airplane. That's my theory!
@azrealtorjp

Makes sense to me….

I’ve read it’s because the left engine is furthest away (aircraft specific) from the passenger door.

Yes agree full rich during the climb to help with engine temps, keeping them as low as possible. You could lean and get more performance but you trade higher engine temps for performance and it is not worth it.

I really love how you verbally run through your checklist. From a non-pilot looking in, that seems to be a really great practice.
@TandaMadison
@TandaMadison День назад
I hadn't really thought about it but a few flights back I finished verbalizing my departure briefing and my flight instructor off-handedly said, "good, good, moving that into short term memory." Until that point I hadn't thought about the science of it. However, that makes a lot of sense. By saying it out loud even when you are by yourself you move it from some learned long term spot to top of mind, so to speak. Then if something happens it's already in the "high speed cache memory"

Totally agree. Never lean your mixture until cruise altitude UNLESS your density altitude requires it.😊
@user-zp5vj2bl8o1
@user-zp5vj2bl8o1 День назад
The aircraft manual will indicate when to lean the mixture. It's been 20 years since I've taught in a PA-34 but I recall the manual indicates to lean above 3,000'. If you have any flight experience I assume it is/was in a small Cessna...
@stephenreese5921
@stephenreese5921 День назад
@@user-zp5vj2bl8o1 I simultaneously was an A&P/IA and piloted Cessna 150/172, Piper Cherokee/Dakota/Arrow/Navajo, Beech 200/99, Boeing 727 just to name a few. Oh yeah, I earned several ratings on F-5/17/18/20/and later Boeing Vertol CH-47 just to name a few. As I said density altitude can require that you lean your mixture on a hot and high situation especially during takeoff.
@user-zp5vj2bl8o1
@user-zp5vj2bl8o1 День назад
@@stephenreese5921 Too bad the Aircraft Operations Manual trumps a mechanic's opinion. It's depends on the engines. The PA-34 started with the Lycoming engines and later switched to Continental engines. The Continental engines don't seem to tolerate bad leaning techniques as the Lycoming does. This was one of many reason (also carb ice) why Cessna switched from the Continental in the C150 to the Lycoming in the C-152.

Awesome professional preflight and info as always. 👍👍You Rock! As far as Fuel , gas engines are happy at 13.4-13.8 AFR. In Climb any gas engine will have higher fuel demand. Its when you manually lean it out under load , there is a threshold to keep the engines happy, too lean will burn valves. Ideally... The AFR is your Safety meter. 12.5- 13.8 is where any gas engine is happy. Best mileage is at Highest manifold Vacuum. 🤙🤙🇺🇸🇺🇸🏁🏁Be blessed Kay.

Fun flight again Kay, with respect to saving fuel in the climb, Altitude = Options and with your flight planning for reserves keep those throttles forward. Kudos to the ABQ controller giving you a route change with phonetics and at a slower pace, he was ensuring you would not have to ask for clarification. Good for you monitoring Guard, if a VFR crashed in a canyon their ELT would broadcast vertically limiting reception. Nothing compares to having command of the situation when landing at a very busy airport, everyone on freq. is proficient and you Kay were so cool, calm and collected. Cheers!

Kay, you do super professional procedures and handling, quality airline standard behaviour, you are always spot on with the number one prerequiste - flying the aircraft and staying ahead of it. One thing, your right gear looks glitchy on deployment, it does a jig up and down again at end of extension. Might what the oil and strut seals checked at least? Fly safe .
