Helllllo again friends, welcome to another fun video! Krista and I had a blast flying F18 Super Hornet simulators at Altitude Flight Simulation Centre in Calgary!! We tried combat dogfighting and also attempted to land the F18s onto an aircraft carrier.... who wants to bet how well that went!?
@AltitudeFlightSimulaton also has a full 737 cockpit simulator to check out as well!! We had a great time going through procedures & learning about the F18 Super Hornet in combat. The Instructors were fantastic and guided us newbies through the whole thing!! It's also their ONE year anniversary!!! Congrats to Tammam & the entire team!!

High level Hornet cockpit simulator with choppy FPS and uses an A-10 Warthog flight stick rather than a Hornet stick with a completely different layout and feel 👌

That is not an a10 flight stick, I fly them in dcs and they look nothing like the one in the sim at least the one at the start

If someone would have coached them to line up on the Canted carrier deck with a stabilized approach with correct speed and hook down then called for the throttle cut at the right time they both would have caught a wire on the carrier. All they needed was some info. on the procedures required. But, I loved the video , it was great fun.

Obviously noone briefed them. They should at least have known to touch down at a descend rate of 700 and wouldnt have approached that horribly low. Still muscle memory, throttle response, the wind behind the deck and lack of physical feedback would have made a proper landing improbable. And i mean proper as in following the glideslope somewhat reliably, nothing fancy

Yeah, there is not throttle cut on a carrier landing. The altitude is controlled by using only the throttle once you get on speed AOA. But, correct line up is crucial, if they would have had the ILS and TACAN set up correctly on the HSI they could have done a little better.

You can get away with sim-carrier landings by just treating them like a bit steeper approach to an airfield so i was expecting them to do a bit better tbh

RaskD0j0 / Too fast, therefore the AOA was too low and hook while being dropped doesnt reach the wires. Also way off to the left and touch down too late. Just watch a case I approach and see

That was P3D. In DCS you can also do air 2 air refueling, make stuff go boom 💥 etc. In VR you are IN the cockpit.

scrolled into the comments just to see how many DCS pilots are here.. i am not disappointed :P EDIT: Shame the folks at the sim center didn't explain to you underlying concepts of boat ops / carrier landings. Given the fact you are real pilots i am sure you would've done a whole lot better if you knew what to look out for.. entertaining stuff non the less!

If a shelp like me can do it, you two ladies can too. You'd just actually have to put some time in. Lots of sims you can do this at home if you want to take it past being a cute RU-vid video. - FS2004 or FSX Carrier Operation Package. - DCS may be even more realistic (but expensive!) - Pacific Fighters (for WW2 carrier landings) I've done it on FS2004 and Pacific Fighters. I never got good at it, and it's been more than a decade since I did, but I did do it.

emilie,If you allow advice, on f/a18 in landing configuration finds AoA, with the trim and keep the bracket E on velocity vector, and to adjust the altitude uses only the power handle,however you have been good

Hi Emilie Great video! I regularly work with the One R. Do you mean 360 footage you want to edit to a 360 video or to 16:9? For 16:9 I use the Insta studio to keyframe then export and edit in Resolve as normal. It is much the same for the 360 videos at the start. Export the flat all inclusive view, import to your editing software. Of cause from this point you will have to check out some how to videos for the specific editor you use.... BTW if you ever get the corrupted thumbnail issue change the folder settings to documents view in properties and it will stop the crashes and let you access your files. I have a video on my channel about it. Another tip. Dont use the AI features if you want to export from studio about an order of magnitude faster (CUDA Core equipped GFX Card Required).

That was fun. But... You land on the diagonal? Either I never really paid attention to all the carrier landing I've seen in film (distinctly possible) - or they were all done wrong (seem unlikely), or they were pulling your legs (possible but, unlikely) I could sware everyone came straight in (could just be camera work too I suppose.) I thought the diagonal was the cat and only used for launches.

Well, this is a bit more complicated than that. The landing area is angled away from the centerline and the ship is moving so you'll constantly have to compensate and move right for the proper lineup. The ship has a Base Recovery Course, which is the heading of where the ship is moving and the Final Bearing, which is the heading of the actual runway area, and that's offset from the BRC. Unless the situation makes it impossible, (bad weather or night ops), there's a holding pattern above the carrier, which has its own rules but once you're cleared to land, you go in a wide, downwind, descending pattern starting from the port side of the carrier and start a wide turn towards the carrier that will put you to the proper place where the recovery pattern starts. That, in a good weather-daytime pattern will be 800 feet above the carrier, slightly offeset to the right at 350 knots, then you turn a little bit above the ship while pulling 2.5-3.5 Gs and roll out on the reciprocal heading. Afterwards you fly downwind while making the necessary configuration changes and hitting the proper altitude checkmarks, with approximately a 1-1.2 nm abeam distance. Once you're turning on final, you will do it at a distance that will ensure that once you're on final, you're coming straight towards the landing area. If you do it too close, you will very likely overshoot like they did, if you do it too far, you'll eat up too much time. So in essence, from the landing area it will seem that you're coming in straight but the area itself is angled away and the ship is moving, so you have to constantly drift right to maintain centerline. If you're doing a straight in (like at night), you will fly towards the landing area and again, from the perspective of a sailor next to the wires, you will come in straight.

7:12 The LSO would have given Christa a wave-off and the grade will be this: *FX (LO)IM LOSLOIC* *"Fast at the start. A little low in the middle. Low slow in close"* As for 8:09, that's a *"Ramp strike"* Emilie . Means that you crashed on the back of carrier and the result grade would be this in the LSO's point of view: *LULAW SIM-AR* *"Lined up left All the way. Slow in the Middle. At Ramp"* Just some LSO terms/phrases I learned from DCS World.

Emilie, get DCS World and the F-18C plus the Supercarrier Addon! All available on the Steam Platform for around 100 Bucks. You can replay that even with better Graphics at Home. You can also do it with Friends on your own hostet Game or a free Server in Cooperation. You will find quick access to the DCS Fligh Community. Carrier Operations especcially in a Storm at Night are definately a challenge you have to set your Bar to. You can off course book more Hours on Altitude Flight Simulations instead. But you cannot train in private at Home this way. It is alot of fun, I promise! DCS also allows to use Virtual Reality Headsets or a Track-IR Headtracker. Both add so much to the immersion in DCS - They (especcially Track-IR) are well worth the Buck. And Track-IR is supported by every FlightSim today. FS2020 included. Yeah I know this is just for fun until you fly again for real and probably have no time for Sims anymore. So it might be too much of a expense for a short period of Time. I undestand you!

I highly recommend DCS (digital combat simulator) for free on steam, only planes are paid, but it's definitely the best fighter simulator on the gaming market. Regards and subek is flying

Looks like fun. But if you want to try out carrier landings in your home, get DCSWorld (Free) and a plane with an arrestor hook (SU-33, F14, F18). DCS Comes with an easy mode and you can up the difficulty as you see fit.

Well, it's _the_ PreparEd linked to hard pit. The second is quite nice, but P3D provides low FPS at all times and pretty basic graphics representation without deep flight modelling. Didn't you feel some lack of frames during active maneuvering? (like eye strain, etc) Also, I'm surprised that an experienced pilot would miss the glide slope for a carrier, always coming way too low. It really is a different landing technique -- but it's not _that_ different. Otherwise, a great promo video. What could one possibly desire on RU-vid other than a couple of fine ladies trying their hands at a modern jet that's an art in itself? ALso, yes, it would be nice to see some F4BMS and DCS content here. GA is a meditative process in itself, much closer to a toy than a game (although DCS is also mainly a toy -- of all listed only F4 is actually a real game).

Freaking deep perception is null in Simulated Flights! Not saying that carrier landings are a piece of cake, but even trying to land on land runways is hard, too. It doesn't matter if you're a pro or an FS enthusiast. The only thing that really matters here, is all the fun that FSs bring! Great video, though!

And yes, I miss your tutorials in FS4X. Well, no problem if you delay them a little bit, since my new computer is stlii retained on who knows what bureuocratic errand and still is to come home (my present PC isn't able to deal fairly with FS4X).

I found your youtube as I was looking for this sim/video outfit I learned about. I loved watching yall. Hats off to ya. You did way better than I did. But i haven flown in two yrs. I'm going back and do the carrier landing. I'm also a follower now. Hope yall are back in the cockpit working.

Why is it that Canadian women are all so hot? Last time I was up there in Toronto back in the 1980's, I was amazed. Anyway, I would LOVE to fly that sim. I wish I could find a setup like that down here in the states.
