I had a job where I would go to drill platforms and mountain top communications sites mostly in the Brooks Range with some just a flattened spot on a steep ridge. Many of the pilots I flew with over 20 years ago called the 407 the sports car of small helicopters. We’d do some cool maneuvers. I’d fly a few times a week mostly in the summer.

@@Chris_at_Home nice! I think the only one I’ve been in (just as a passenger) from that list is the 212. I’d never seen a 207, rather unique model. I once watched an air ambulance come in to land on a freeway after a HORRIFIC wreck. Raining, winds gusting 50+, trees at the edge of the right of way on both sides. This pilot came in, circled twice, and set it down like it was a calm day. Truly AWESOME skills there!!
@jim2lane

Yeah, he needed to really mind his situational awareness on that landing. He only had about 15-20 feet on his right side before that lamp post and fuel tank. A big gust of wind from his left right before touchdown could have turned that into a really bad day

Cheers to the pilots and everyone else involved. The rest of us are lucky to have these people around.

@lbowsk
@lbowsk 3 месяца назад
Wrong times two. 1. The little c captain was completely over the top with his "help". All of the non pilots are so jazzed about how quickly he jumped on the throttles so quickly. Yet while he was jumping the gun doing that he missed the First Officers call for Flaps 20, which is the FIRST thing he's supposed to do on a G/A. The is no rush to jam in the throttles like that, particularly if the First Officer already selected TOGA on the throttle switch. If you watch carefully, the FO is selecting TOGA as the captain is jamming in max (or nearly so) thrust. The Auto Throttles are already commanding a programmed amount of thrust for the GA. Besides, the airplane only requires a half a shove to get it flying. Adding too much thrust in a Go Around is a sure way to screw things up. Since he took so long to call positive rate, the gear speed is possibly an issue as are the Flap speeds. Plus, underslung engines produce a lot of pitch up moment and this can really get you in a tight box, particularly with a low altitude level off. He was too busy on the tower frequency. There is no rush to call the tower. The rule is Aviate, Navigate, Communicate. And there is no reason to shout like he was doing. It's distracting and raises the tension in the cockpit for absolutely no reason. And this was not a sim. I won't even address his hand being all over the yoke for all of it. @@boringpolitician
