I use to own a 66 Alon (slide back canopy) it had a speed limit for open canopy flight. I was never comfortable flying with it open. But it was still a great plane, all Ercoupe are.
My brother had one in Wichita. Kansas he let me fly when was 5 or 6 years old. .I could keep it straight and with no problem. He flew it to work every day to Wichita municipal airport which was about 12 miles and landed in the alfalfa field beside our house on our farm. One morning he flew me to school and landed in the school yard. No problem, try that today. Ha ha
Dad had one of these in the early 60's. Yellow and black as I recall. Brought it home wingless on a trailer, put it in the garage, overhauled it, took it back to Flabob airport in Riverside, CA and that is all I recall. Apparently it drove like a car and the canopy was a neat feature.
Great video - low and slow - My first ride in a small plane was in the early 60's in none other than an Ercoupe. I have a special place in my soul for them as it got me hooked and almost 60 years later I can't get enough aviation. Had a 150 Cessna a few years ago, but would really like to get an Ercoupe, will have to look around. Keep posting those great videos !
I just bought an Ercoupe, Question: with the side windows. Is this a 3 window setup? Two side windows and a ERCOUPE SUNSHADE window on top? Mine seems to be missing a part, as the side windows only slide up so far then stop. Thank you.
Night? The sky on final was a lot brighter (since you were pointed at the sunset). I think this was a "dusk" flight, but no way it would count for a night landing. Cool video though.
