Boat specs below ⬇️
Hey friends! We’re currently exploring the beaches next to our boat anchored in the Las Perlas archipelago, after an amazing sail here last week from Panama City. We recently bought our dream boat, a Passport 42, did a ton of projects, broke stuff on our shakedown cruise, fixed it, transited the Panama Canal, and sailed into the Pacific Ocean. Whew, yeah this last year was a lot!
In this episode you all are coming along with us for another first on our new boat. Actually 3, the first is discovering this beautiful beach. The black and gray sand is an indication that these islands were formed by volcanic activity, and this is the first time we have seen such a beach in our travels. Someone once told me that if you’ve see one beach, you’ve seen them all, but I find that hard to be true as we continue sailing to new places. Another interesting find, are parts of the beach, or island, that are revealed at low tide. Not very sandy, but cool to explore! Tomorrow we will be taking you through figuring out how to set up and fly our asymmetrical spinnaker for the first time. It’s a huge downwind sail made of lightweight nylon, and flown at the front of the boat. The third will be catching our first Pacific Ocean fish, a big Jack Caravelle! The weather looks promising so lets see how it goes and welcome to Sailing Seawind.

Excellence from start to finish! Great explanation of the anatomy of a sail as well as the demonstration of flying the spinnaker. The drone shots added context and great imagery but the best part was the joy you two exhibited throughout the process!

Parker & Kattie: Wow, that was a true mesmerizing, delightful and breath taking episode. I'm not sure, but the Hood spinnaker maybe a cruising one, meaning she's more easy to set and handle because of her size. However, we notice a speed increase when she filled along with recorded information during the leg. Drone footage was out of this world, the boob's were exceptional, we love birds in flight. With outstanding editing and cinematography along with Parker's on going tutorial we are all blessed to capture the essence of your on going, once in a lifetime voyage. Amazing, just awesome!

Pro tip on the snuffer. Have the snuffer line go through a turning block on deck (use a soft shackle) when you are "SNUFFING" it. If the snuffer is under load it will want to pull Katy UP , lift here right off the deck UP. If the line is through a turning block on the deck it will pull her DOWN. Dave S/V FreeWill

Because of growing up near the Erie Canal and my interest in it I have been following your adventure since episode one. Not really a sailor, but was lucky enough to sail on Erroll Flynn's old yacht the Sirocco from Hilo to Lahania.back in the 1970s as well as a brief catamaran trip in the Caroline islands. If you ever decide to sail across the Pacific to Hawaii I promise to greet you in Hilo with aloha and hula dancers

Oh, Oh, oh, new Tradition, Cheers on your head !!!! You can TOTALLY make it a "Thing". o OK, not the easiest boat to fish from. Katy, immense respect for making a 'call' on what you don't want to record. We don't have to see every detail of your lives. And, Kudos to the editor for keeping it in.

Your "asymetric" spinnaker looks very symmetric to me, which would explain "it's cut differently" and "it's smaller than I thought.😊

Your film quality and editing is excellent as always. You sir seem to be able to live in the moment and experience life as it comes. Poor Katy seems to have on going dialogue in her head that is distracting to her. I can relate to what she is experiencing as I have had the same issue. I think that your travels and adventures will help to silent those voices and soon you both will be living in the moment. Keep up the good work!

Sounds like it would taste good only some diced Sorrento Chili's fried with it sounds even better. After it's cooked chop up the squares. Make some fish tacos with avocado tomato onion cilantro? And some salsa.With beer to drink before and after. With chips,&salsa on the side.I think maybe better than tuna tacos😂😂😂😂😂

Great catch!! Love the video, thanks for the explanation of the sail, us newbies really appreciate it. Question, does the spinnaker always fly to port? Or is the tack and clew interchangeable when flying the jib. Thanks again for all the work you put in for awesome content.
@SailingSeawind
@SailingSeawind 5 месяцев назад
You can gybe a spinnaker through the wind if you have two sheets attached, but we do not do that. If we needed to switch to the starboard side, then we would pull the sock down over the sail and flop it over to the other side, and re rig the sheet. Then we would pull the sock back up, deploying the spinnaker again!
@alanredman3998

I think you have your spinnaker there wrong way round,the long edge should go to the bow, think of an asymmetric spinnaker as a gaggy forsail .

Fin episode! Kunne kommet mer inn på geologi i området (the sand), ulike fisketyper (giftige, ikke spisbare?), er det krokodiller i dette området (Panama?), hvor finnes det hai, kan én fritt gå iland på øyene (privat eller public), fint med detaljer om seilene, fortell om tabletter mot dehydrering (hvordan de virker), priser for oppankring/marinas/boyes, rules for flying the drone if any and thousand of other subjects!

OMG! do you guys need to learn to identify fish ! That’s a Jack Crevalle and it is considered poor eating. To make them a little bit better you need to bleed them as soon as you get ahold of them. In fact , bleeding all fish is the best practice. Small chunks with a lot of seasoning is a good way to make a Jack Crevalle palatable. There are some excellent eating species of Jack in the Pacific but Crevalle isn’t one. You guys are sitting in a fishing paradise ! Lean to identify and fish for some of the better eating fish ! You guys are missing out on some of the finest eating to be had on earth.

Did you not watch the video? He stated and showed via the fish book that it’s a Crevalle Jack and he did bleed it. Plus he did cut it up in chunks and marinaded it before cooking it to make it palatable. Wow, you may want to consider how it’s not wise and emotionally intelligent to make assumptions or tell people what to learn…especially these smart bad asses out there living their best life.
