Should you avoid the 737 MAX or do I think it's fine to just go ahead and take that flight? Today I’m on the dreaded Boeing traveling from London Gatwick to Stockholm on Norwegian and I’m wondering: is this plane best avoided, or is it actually kind of a nice ride? And how about Norwegian, is it a cheap and cheerful good time on their MAX or not so much? The MAX was the plane everyone was afraid of and then everyone forgot about being afraid of it and now they’re afraid of it again. It certainly keeps things interesting. Let's take a look.

I frequently fly AAs max8 from Quito or Guayaquil to Miami and it’s pretty nice.

I do the opposite. Given the choice I go for the Max rather than -800. Much better experience onboard and I’m not worried. A while ago when I booked the Ryanair STN-DUB route I made sure it was scheduled to be the max 8-200 by checking the seat map.

Norwegian, SAS, and now Norse. Norway is doing pretty good with their operations tbh. Wideroe aswell to complete the list. Hopefully more routes to come.

I’ve flown a few times on Ryanair’s MAX fleet in the last year and I find them to be super smooth and pretty good for short haul Europe flights. The flimsy window blinds and fittings is true though!

I flew on 2 of Fly Dubai’s 737 MAX-8 jets just this year (2024) Outbound from Dubai to Tbilisi on 8th June return back to Dubai on 13th June. I was quite scared honestly riding on one of those during my outbound flight but the flight experience was amazing. The return flight was supposed to be the 737-800NG series but it was swapped to the MAX 8 again. I was like okay on the return.

I've flown the MAX a few times, it's a very nice and quiet plane. I know Boeing have received a lot of grief recently for numerous things going wrong but a great deal of these aren't necessarily due to the plane itself, the majority are by the pilots or the airlines and the quality of their maintenance. Personally, I don't feel nervous flying on the MAX, it's a great looking plane and I feel just as safe on that one as I do with any others. My first flight on it back in 2021 was a little nerve-wracking but 45 minutes into the flight I began to realise it's just another plane and there's nothing to be concerned about.

I've flown on them 3 times (Ryanair twice and Norweigan once, really good flights) Then after various news stories about issues especially the one in March about chafed spoiler cables I've avoided it. I think I will fly on the Max soon again though. Those airlines have very good pilots and that is what makes the biggest difference, safety-wise.

I'd say that after everything that has happened the 737 MAX would be just as safe as any other aircraft, if Boeing knew how to put it together properly. The issue now except for the engine anti ice is not the aircraft design, but rather how they assemble it.

Going on that exact flight later this summer. Flew Norwegian 737 MAX 8 2 roundtrips in the last 8 months. No problems. One to Barcelona earlier this year and last October to Malaga. Norwegian are reasonably priced and usually have clean modern planes and friendly staff. Seats are a step up from Ryanair and comparable to most other European airlines.

Flew on the MAX quite a lot back when FLYR was still around and it’s one of the more comfortable types I’ve flown on, smooth, quiet. And I personally prefer it over the A320NEO due to the MAX having bigger windows, the new Boeing sky interior, and an overall nicer cabin in my opinion. But nothing will ever beat modern wide bodies😂😉

Ignore those pepole in the comments who say that they are unsafe but they won’t crash they are safe but I’m flying on 5th of July from BOD-CPH on a Norwegian 737-max and I’m flying also with the 737-max Norwegian from CPH-RIX on the same day but I’m not scared of anything but atleast the 737-max takes you safely to your destination so yea

I've flown a United max9 & Southwest max8. Enjoyed it both times. Only complaint being the tiny bathroom on the southwest plane. Can't remember if I used the bathroom on United. Definitely don't mind flying them again, though if on a 9 may want to avoid the area around the door plug. 🤔

I generally have no preference for a specific aircraft manufacturer but try to avoid newer Boeing aircraft if possible until they get their quality issues settled.

Nice video! Personally, I would fly the 737Max if it was convenient. My parents are actively avoiding it. Whenever I fly it's together with my family and that's why I don't really have the option to fly it, I've only flown the 737-800 out of all the 737s:)

I absolutely try to avoid it, not just the 737 MAX but I go even further and avoid Boeing completely. Too many incidents are happening and there are no signs of stopping...

I will never fly the BOEING MAX. I just flew JetBlue over the last two weeks. Was based on aircraft type, not price as I paid slightly more. Great flight, great crew, spotlessly clean and not a chance they’d sub a Boeing since they do not operate them. I don’t have a death wish so I’ll stick to non Boeing aircraft. Glad you survived it however.

Discovered a flight I’m booked on this year has changed from 737-800 to MAX-8 😐 Would choose a 320N given the choice, but I don’t have the choice for the route (at least not on my budget atm)

I would fly on a max any time. The interiors are ordered by the customer. Ie the cheap seats. Thanks for sharing the video 😢

The interiors of the 737MAX that I'm saying are cheap are not the seats, they're things like the window shades, the plastics, the lavs etc - those are Boeing decisions, not the customer.

Flyed with 737 Max with Ryanair Edinburgh to Brussels, I thought the plane was comfortable and perfectly smooth fly and early landing and would I do it again-yes I would for sure

I had to endure 11 hours on the Norwegian 737MAX from LPA to ARN with a medical diversion to Casablanca and a crew change in Alicante. Not ideal and a very uncomfortable flight.

I like that the A320s for their extra width vs the 737 Max but much prefer Boeing cabin design (overhead bins, lighting, etc) vs Airbus’s more traditional looking cabin.

I'm paying a lot more to avoid flying 737 MAX. I don't care how new it looks, or what the menu is like. I just don't want my plane to break in two due to quality issues during production.

@@nickolliver3021 There's only been 8 notable incidents where aircraft have broken up mid-flight, the majority of these are Boeing and not all of them were due to the manufacturing of the aircraft. I hadn't heard of any Airbus aircraft breaking up and have scoured the internet to find any evidence of this but can't find anything. If you have any evidence of this, let me know - I'm going based on your words of "break in two".

Its sad that little evidence of airbus planes having isdues barely get any media attention but all boeing ones hit the media and blame it on boeing. Of course not many were down to manufacturering faults but more to do with airlines issues. But sone people get so tetchy over boeing problems that's the reason why they get these responses back because they say daft things

@@nickolliver3021 That sounds more like a conspiracy theory rather than events that have actually happened and been reported. This whole issue with Boeing has only been fairly recently with the door on the Alaska plane coming away, before that it was the two MAX crashes. So problems with Boeing haven't been a long reported thing, it's only been in recent times where whistle-blowers from Boeing have come forward to suggests issues with their planes. According to them, it had long been an issue and if that was the case, we wouldn't have known about it until recently.

Ofc there's the Boeing situation going on, but I don't discriminate Boeing vs Airbus. Norwegian flies my "back home route" and I take them if it's good price and schedules vs. the IAG option. Actually for some reason are assigning me really nice extra legroom flights when I just take low fare. I like to think that is because I did fly their 787 years ago and I must be profiled as a good customer. OTOH compared to Gabe, I have taken Norwegian very often and never SAS. For intra EU flights even if it's LCCs, nowadays the experience is nice and it's just Ryanair that has the hurry and basic service. The "Recaros" are overall 🙃 Now you hear about the "I love it", that it has some of the original 1960s design and the 707 nose... When I board FR's 737s using just a ramp stair, it has to me a slight feel of what flying was in that era.

I am not flying the Max, and in general, no newer Boeing airplanes, if I can help it. I did deliberately choose to avoid the Max-8 with my current booking.

Airbus has its share of issues also. Engines. Flew on a 320 SLC-LAX. IST FRA. not as comfortable as a Boeing. And Airbus has it's share of diversions also.

What was it about the A320 that you found less comfortable? Just curious. Thing is, while any aircraft will have some issues, the 737max is in a different league in terms of the types of issues and what caused them.

The Max is as safe as any other plane as long as the doors are still attached. 😂 It has, sadly, become a meme plane and I don't think Boeing really wants this kinda fame.

I think they have switched mindset to trying to make as much money as possible, even though it obviously doesn't work. And Yes the MAX design is definitely safe now, but Boeing can't assemble it properly anymore which is a shame.

@@airedition : I guess that my thinking is colored by the fact that I worked for two of the largest 737 MAX operators in the world. I know that you weren’t trying to sound dramatic with the title. But that’s what I got from it. In general, I really like your videos and find them “no nonsense” and straight forward and generally devoid of drama. It’s hard to defend Boeing given their actions recently. I suppose I’m old school having spent an entire career around these dependable, durable machines. So I’d like to give them the benefit of a doubt.

I would avoid flying not only the 737 Max but a Boeing aircraft in general. Their quality control appears to be shocking even their CEO got the push and there are still Boeing whistleblowers coming forward. It's Airbus for me.
