10 Percent True #15 P2 - Adam Robinson - RAF Tornado Navigator, Op Desert Storm / Op Granby
This interview is one of two special interviews I conducted to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Operation Desert Storm / Op Granby, better known as the First Gulf War.
In this, the second part of my interview with RAF Tornado Navigator, Adam Robinson, he describes his experiences under fire, to include attacking an airfield on the very first night of the war.

Great interview and brought back huge memories as I was crewed with Adam on all those Gulf War sorties he eloquently shared. One thing I'd like to correct is Adam described himself as an "average" navigator.. utter tosh! He was the best crew mate I could have wanted, always professional and immensely competent, and simply a top bloke!

Shifty! Great to see you mate. As always, you’re too kind. I definitely owe you for looking after me so well 30 years ago.

@@adamrobinson1903 Adam you owe me nothing...any debt is mutual and we were a perfect team and combination of characters, skills and daring-do!

Great interview. It's good that you let him talk instead of constantly interrupting.

Absolutely loved this, my cousin was out in Dhahran with the F3s so I found this very interesting. Massive respect to Adam and all the guys that served out there 👏

Absolutely fascinating. Particularly interesting that the formation had the discretion to hit the taxiways (rather than the runway) to meet the objective of the Tasking Order. There really are very few published aircrew recollections of Op Granby and this is a classic!

Adam is a fantastic bloke and I really enjoyed both parts of this interview. Can’t wait to hear his thoughts on the Chinook, and would always be happy to hear more from him on the Tornado.

Superb interview, an honest, laconic and dry view of events 30 years ago. Adam’s pilot in GW1 is a good friend of mine, so interesting to hear his back seater’s memories.

What a fantastic piece. Well researched, well produced with a lot of honesty in the interview, a fitting way to mark the 30 years. Thanks.

I flew B-1Bs as a weapon system officer (navigator) and the differences between the flying terminology and cockpit communications despite the common language is fascinating.

For those who wonder how they designed the runway submunitions, for certain concrete, read about Brixmis. Litteraly Nato guys driving up to the WarPac runways and hammer a chunck out of it. Not joking.

Thanks, Sim. There are very few recorded interviews from Granby Tornado aircrew, so was pleased to get Adam on tape.

Incomprehensible how you can just fly to an airfield and drop gravity bombs. What, the airfield doesn't have lights nor radar?
