This is a very special episode of TomAir because my First Officer for this trip was my Mom and the two of us got to fly to Killarney Ontario for fish & chips. Follow along on this spectacular day out as Mom and I fly the Skymaster from CYFD to CPT2, tell stories about Grandpa Harry who was a pilot in the war and then get to sample the best fish & chips in all of Ontario.
I love flying and capturing these videos but I must admit that sometimes the editing can be a bit of a slog. Not so on this episode! I loved every minute of the time I spent both capturing this episode and even putting it together in post. I will cherish this video for the rest of my days and I feel honoured to have had the opportunity to produce it and now to get share it with you. I hope you enjoy watching this episode as much as I did creating it.
A special thank you goes out to my Mom for coming along and to Herbert Fisheries for making the best darn fish & chips in Ontario. If you are ever anywhere near Killarney you simply have to go and try them for yourself. Seriously!

I fly for fun and adventure and I strive to be the best, safest and most professional pilot that can be at all times but I am far from perfect. I have not been flying for a long time (since April 2015) but I always strive to be better. This channel is part of that process and another piece of the puzzle for me. I fly with as many people as I can and I seek out instructors and mentors whenever possible and I recommend that you do as well. I make sure that everyone I share the cockpit with with fits my style of flying and learning and that they can help me take my adventure higher.
Producing this RU-vid channel has made me grow as a pilot and for that I am truly thankful. Scouring through all the footage has shown me my strengths and weaknesses and that process has been humbling to say the least. I recommend videoing your own flights, watching them with an open mind and maybe even sharing them. There has been a lot of great feedback and wisdom in the comments on my videos as well. I always appreciate the constructive and almost always positive feedback. Keep it coming!
Please note that my videos are highly edited and some of the context of these flights is altered in order to keep the story moving. These videos are for entertainment purposes only and should not be considered a replacement for professional instruction by a certified flight instructor.
Fly safe and have fun!

Wow, I didn't know you guys had fish and chips in Canada! Americans most likely think it's some fish with potato chips 😄 (crisps to us in England). Great video, love the channel. Your Mum is an absolute angel! And it was fascinating hearing all about your English grandfather, flying with the RAF then the RCAF. From the old world to the beautiful new world. Greetings from (the original) Durham, England.

Depends on your family I guess. I wouldn’t dare be alone in the air with any of mine. 😊

Used to fly to Killarney for fish & chips back in 2014, glad it’s still up & running. Herbert’s was the place if I remember right.

This was really fun! Thanks for sharing. I love Harry’s pictures as they bring back memories of my early flying. Far from my first airplane, but my first logged hours of instruction were in a PT-26 Cornell (enclosed canopied PT-19). An unusual airplane in Florida.

Thank you for watching and for the comments. I plan to do a full episode just on Grandpa Harry in the future but both Mom and I need to do some more research first. I am the benefactor of his old log books and the album from his flying days which is amazing. Now it is just a matter of sitting down and sorting through it all to cross reference photos with logbook entries and pull in what other data we have as well to tell the bigger story.

Nice...first time I tried landing there, on my first cross country. I was long and on the go around, left, came awfully close to the quartz mountain lol...when your used to a 200 by 4000 foot runway you get fooled by the smaller runways. Thats the Hubert's fishing boat. Yup best white fish ever!

I find that CPT2 is always a little gusty, short and that approach over the trees on either end a little challenging. Definitely worth it for the fish however!

Man, it’s been years since I’ve been up to Killarney for some fish and chips! Last in a 242 Zlin last time. Was so always so great!
