Thanks for all the great tips! Regarding those gloves with the finger and thumb that can be folded back, I have a pair, and love them. However, one time I had traveled a ways from where I normally fly, and decided to do a compass calibration. I could not get the compass to calibrate. After a few tries, it dawned on me that the gloves have little magnets in them to hold the finger and thumb ends open. I ditched the gloves and the compass calibrated normally.
@@nolavet5047 I guess I could try that. It’s said the reception on the new RC 2 and Mini 4 Pro is really strong even when flying your drone inside your car.
I’m new to flying drones and this is seriously helpful info. I live in the UK and snowy conditions are predicted in the coming days, I’m really hoping to get out and get some snowscape footage, pleased to have watched this first. Thanks!
Yes I am hoping to fly my M4P asap here in the UK and hope we get a bit of snow next week, better than the boring grey stuff we’ve had recently and sooooo looking forward to the warmer weather🥶
@@keithhowland9333Love the idea of producing lovely snow scenes but I'm not sure I'd risk my M4P here in blighty with light snow falling as it tends to be slushy & wet.
I flew my Mavic 3 and mini 3 pro today on a minus 6 Celsius sunny January 12th 2024 day here north of Montreal Quebec. I did perfect flights! I took all the precautions as well! Batteries in my pocket before flying and doing all the important flight list preparations!
@@AirPhotography Thank you Sean for your super channel in which I’m learning so much! You’re a great tech teacher! I’m still working full time this year at age 65 and a half as a public school teacher since many many years and will finally retire in a few months this coming June 2024 (age 66) after over 30 years of work! I can’t wait to finally live out my dream by Boondocking traveling with my RV and also get into more music performing and video creations of my travels and also drone aireography etc.. Very lucky and happy! I’ll make a nomad life channel and also a drone, photo, videography one as well since i love that also! Also love performing my classical guitar! have a great day Sean!
I haven't been on in a while but man you are looking really good! You are doing great with your weight loss. I love watching your video. You keep it simple.
We have received any snow yet here at the South Jersey Shore points, but these tips will come in very handy when we do. Great video Shawn, thanks for sharing.
Great tips. Correction: cold weather doesn't make battery die faster. What it does is that it makes it harder to supply enough current. Normally, when electronics get colder, they consume less current so if battery is scaled linearly with load then we should be good. Problem is when battery supplies less current than the load demands. Then this will make the drone operating in suboptimal condition (< Vnom/low RPM etc)
Great video! This morning it was 65 degrees and by 9:30 it's 38 degrees in NW Louisiana. There is a 70% chance of snow Monday so your tips are timely. I'm sure it won't be anything like you are dealing with.
Good tips here. One tip I thought of...if you plan on using one of those weighted launch pads, may not be a bad idea to bring a towel. Wipe off any water on the surface of the landing pad.
Good recommendations for winter drone flying, especially about short flights. (today I was kicking myself for not buying a 2nd Mini2 combo kit at Costco last year for $360.)
Many good tips. Was out yesterday flying the Mavic 3 pro for some 30 minutes, wait for a camera target to appear. The tmperature was a few degrees below 0, Celsius and the wind was below 3 meter per second. Checking the charging I forced a return home one minute earlier then the system calculations. Maybe I made a mistake turning on the drone recording. Once the drone was above my head and had descended I cancelled RTH in order to change the landing spot by a few meters. No way the DJI system allowed it. The drone was aiming a pile of rubble. I climb the pile and held the hand under the drone, ordering landing with the joystick. The drone was hesitating but had no option..... The drone landed peacefully in the hnad and turned off the props. One tip could be: Double the return to home time needed and cut off recording. The landing part of the video will be launched on my channel January 14.
What about post flight precautions. Should we keep them next to a fan to ensure no moistures gets trapped. I havent owned a drone yet but i assume people do post flight checks even in regular conditions.
Great tips. I also live in Canada and I am a new drone pilot with the DJI mini4pro. Do you take your Mini4 pro out when temperatures are below -10 C ? How cold have you flown in? And i have been afraid of taking the drone out even with dry snow. I thought it wasn’t waterproof in anyway.
Got a mini 4 pro for Christmas…. 5 minutes into my first flight the screen got blurry and could hardly see anything…. Was told its likely condensation behind the lens. A couple days sealed in a cooler with some rice seemed to fix it but now I’m scared to fly it in the winter….
If you do put it in rice it should be ok. It can't be any worse for the drone than leaving it wet, just make sure you give it a good blow 🌬️ lol but SERIOUSLY clean it properly before you fly it
