This song is about a story in the bible called The Rich Man and Lazarus. And most of their songs have a Christian based message to them which makes them even more awesome!
This song, based on the lyrics, appears to be based on the parable of the rich young ruler. In which he's sent to "hell". And he can see the beggar he didn't help across the " chasm" being comforted in paradise. He then asks for a drop of water off the tip of the beggars finger to cool his tongue but is denied. He then asks if he can at least warn his family not to come here but is also denied that. That's what the lyrics seem to talk about. That's a real story in the bible.
Julia Diez I love the artsy feel to the video. It's way creative than most videos these days. They're music style has touched my soul like no other music genre has ever. Not talking about Christian Rock...but rock it self.
Julia Diez So true though. A Christian and before being a Christian I never knew they were. Goes for a lot that focus on this genre, only knew a few as Christians because of my gma who listens to basically all kinds of Christian music. Excluding rap piece though, but she introduced me to Lecrae and really it began from there to be an actual follower through and though. Then of course back to the upper topic, I found out they were more so Christian in December of 2016. As for a lot of others.
This song is for everyone not just christians! Before I accepted jesus in my life I listened to flyleaf and now I truely understand the lyrics. Just beautiful.
Break up already wake up now Walk away take it all back now Don't be quick to lick the scab off You're spitting in his face with the rest of them Break up already wake up now Walk away take it all back now Don't be quick to lick the scab off You're spitting in his face with the rest of them Please give me something I'm so thirsty, I'm so thirsty Oh please, let me warn them, Don't you come here, don't bring anyone here The chasm isn't fixed yet. Take this water Drinking ever deeper, living water Please give me something I'm so thirsty I'm so thirsty Oh, please, let me warn them. Don't you come here, don't bring anyone here Please Please give me something I'm so thirsty I'm so thirsty Oh, please, let me warn them. Don't you come here, don't bring anyone here
Btw, this is a reference toThe Parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man... Luke 16:19-31 ... The coorilation is SOOO cool . How she says "I'm so thirsty" and "the chasm isn't fixed here" and "one way ticket" ... This blows my friggin mind ... Most Christian music is so corny ... This is NOT corny. This is DOPE!
"While the enemy was losing the battle today, they cried out to us, “Memento Mori! We are human too! We are in pain and we are dying!” I answered them; hoping they would listen, “Break off your pact with the Dread Army! That is what is killing you! Walk away and take your life back! I know its all you’ve ever known, and walking away will leave a wound; but it will heal! When it does, do not enter into your pact with those vultures again! You don’t have to be slaves to Death! We’ve come to bring the truth of freedom! You were meant to be free!” But they wouldn’t listen and kept crying out, “Please give me something! I’m so thirsty.” I tried again with more urgency. “If you die here this way, you will have wasted your life on death and you will have never lived! Once you die here, the chasm will be fixed and you can never undo it. Turn from Death and drink this life-giving water we are offering you!” The battle continued to rage, some turning and joining the Passerby Army, others dying." Please read the booklet that comes with the cd. The text above is the entry that goes with 'Chasm'. All these entries give the entire album at least two extra layers of depth. Amazing.
Chaniel93 actually this song is about the rich man who died and went to hell. The poor man dies and goes to heaven. The rich man looks up at Lazurus and asks for water to drink because of how hot flames are. He denies him drink so, he begs him to tell his friends about the horrible place he has been condemned too.
To those who don't understand this music video: If you have the physical release of the CD, the stuff written in the booklet actually explains the songs. They're all telling a story. This music video makes perfect sense for Chasm.
Good lord all these people coming here and saying"Divergent brought me here" or "I'm only here for divergent!" Why? Just why? This song was never even in the movie or on the Divergent soundtrack-just to clear some things up. But honestly, just cuz it's mentioned in the author's playlist all these people think that this song was created for Divergent and it wasn't. Flyleaf is an amazing band and Lacey is an incredible singer. The song and soundtrack came out before Divergent.
lizzie mclean True! Not to mention, there are clear mentions of Christ's passion. "You're spitting in his face, with the rest of them." "Living water," And; "I'm so thirsty," is reference to when Jesus was dying on the cross. I find it a little bit odd that people don't pick up on it.
Actually it doesn't matter if +Cewkie Tron is Catholic or not because either way, he/she is correct with this song referencing towards religion because this song was based off of a story in the bible. Lacey stated this herself in an interview somewhere. And Christians do share some of the same views on religion as Catholics, but not all. And no, they don't "think they're all right" so idk why all you people are getting so butthurt about the comment. Every single one of these assumptions about Catholics were wrong so...shut up.
For those of you asking what the song is about Its about lazuras the begger and the rich man, the rich man is asking abraham for water while he is in hell, he gives it to him, yet the deeper he drank the thirstier he got He then asked abraham to send him back to warn his family members, abraham told him he cant and that if they didnt listen to the prophets they wouldn't listen to the dead even if they rose again
It's not about being religious it's about having a relationship with God, with Jesus, SO MANY PEOPLE GET THIS MIXED UP and that's why people aren't satisfied. He's the one who loves you when you don't believe in Him, when you turn your back, when you ignore Him, He still loves you & His Love is so immense and when you feel it's so euphoric. You will not know God unless you give him a chance. All you gotta do is take ONE step to Him and He will take 99 to you. God bless all !
So I haven't listened to this song like like..5 or 6 years, and most of the time with old songs I usually forget the lyrics. I play this and I sing s p o t o n to it. Flyleaf was and still is my first ever favorite female singer band. Lacey has such an amazing voice
"God has landed on this enemy-occupied world in human form." - C.S. Lewis - I think the video is describing this. You see the man in the video at first he is in paradise, and then he suddenly is in the army and in a war. That's just like Jesus, he left paradise to come to this earth and give his life for us. The reason Lacey's on the 'evil' side, is because all of us were. He came to save us, and we killed him. We were all dead in sin before God rescued us. That's the image I get from it.
+Joe A. Verage I'm debating what of what you said I completely agree with and don't but I love your way of thinking, and agree with the majority of the statement.
This song is amazing, one of my favourite songs! I remember when I first heard it back in 2009, my reaction was "Wow! So much power!" yeah this song is epic.
Luke 16: 23-28 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’ 25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’ 27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them,so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ Jesus Christ is the living water.
Amen Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. John 4:10-14 KJV
No matter what my brother sees or hears he wont believe. This song makes me cry. I dont want my little brother to end up like the rich man.😢 My heartbreaks everyday. I pray for him all the time to somehow find God.
Hi , don't stop praying for his protection and salvation and always show him how much you love him ie no nagging ,you are fighting a battle never stop..
I've been a fan of flyleaf for years. I remember seeing them live for the first time opening for another band and no one there knowing who they were. I'm also a fan of the divergent books but never knew about the playlist. I think it's kind of cool that it can be used to bring more people to listen to them.
there music is what kept me close in my relationship with God & Lacey's testimony is what keeps my faith going i will miss her but i will be listening to their music forever
People it this song is not from divergent but veronica roth who wrote the books used this song to inspire the books she said so in the collectors editon of divergent and anyway this song was wrote way before divergent
i love this song it puts life in a whole new perspective from the first time i heard this song and many other flyleaf songs i was in love with this band.
Letra Break up already, wake up now Walk away, take it all back now Don't be quick to lick the scab off You're spitting in his face with the rest of them Break up already, wake up now Walk away, take it all back now Don't be quick to lick the scab off You're spitting in his face with the rest of them Please, give me something I'm so thirsty, I'm so thirsty Oh please, let me warn them Don't you come here Don't bring anyone here The chasm isn't fixed yet Take this water Drinking ever deeper Living water The chasm isn't fixed yet Take this water Drinking ever deeper Living water Please, give me something I'm so thirsty, I'm so thirsty Oh please, let me warn them Don't you come here Don't bring anyone here Help, help, help, help, help, help Please, give me something I'm so thirsty, I'm so thirsty Oh please, let me warn them Don't you come here Don't bring anyone here
I liked Flyleaf before I liked Divergent, and this song came out in 2010, not 2011 when the first Divergent book came out, I love both and this song you guys, is not based off of Divergent, but something much better, and a whole lot different, THE B-I-B-L-E!!!!!!!!
For everyone that is wondering, Divergent fans are here because in the bonus section of Divergent, Veronica Roth-the author- wrote a playlist for the book. It says, "'Chasm' by Flyleaf. And this song gets me into the bad aspects of Beatrice's chosen faction."
I have watched this video so many times and it never ceases to amaze me. I am really not sure where I am on the faith spectrum at the minute but I can say that this is one of the most spiritual music videos I've ever seen. The imagery here is so evocative and it makes me think about eternity as a reality, not something that is coming at some point. Yet, I also appreciate how it teaches without preaching- that's an art in itself. I associate a lot of other imagery with this particular video as well; it reminds me of The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis in a lot of ways and the Middle Ages vibe is quite powerful, too. It's not often you get a music video that is so aesthetically deep and I really appreciate whoever crafted the vision for it.
...as a criminal (and worse spiritually). Then He rose three days later, and that is when He defeated death and hades. While I prayed curses upon people, Jesus died for me. (by the way, I was praying those curses during Easter) and He forgave me. What love. Because He first loved me and gave Himself up for me, I can now love Him and give whatever He asks to Him. The small boy kinda reminds me of Jesus. He helped the enemy. While I was an enemy of God, Christ died for me.
People can be boring and nonsense here. How can a book or movie ruin Flyleaf or this amazing song? People who found out about Flyleaf before Divergent: you're welcome! Hope you love this band like many of us do!
I'm an atheist but Flyleaf are still one of my favorite bands. I can find my own interpretations in each of their songs, that's what's music there for, sympathizing and enjoying.
You are entitled to your opinion. If you are a true child of God you will not condemn others. Instead you should pray for them. You are in my prayers and God bless you everyone
Just to clear this up, this song isn't from Divergent, this song is older than that. The author of Divergent used this song as inspiration for writing some of her characters.
There is NOTHING wrong with coming hear to because of a book! We come here to get inside the mind of an author we enjoy emencly. In the back of my copy of Divergent it says '"Chasm" by Flyleaf. And this song gets me in touch with the BAD aspects of Beatrice's chosen faction.' So I came to see how she related them. Doesn't mean I'm trying to be a true fan, or a fake fan. Some of you are so dense. You'll find anything to fight over. Besides, I've grown up listening to Flyleaf. But I still havent heard this peticular song.
I remember listening to this song and all other flyleaf songs since forth grade. Now people just come here because of the Divergent series, I have nothing against it at all because I too have read all the books but it just REALLY bothers me how people comment saying "Divergent" yes I know that's why you came here in the first place but you should really keep it to yourself...still I'm a Divergent fan, no hate, Fourtris all the way!
For those of you who really don't know the meaning of this song and thinking its about Jesus its not...its actually a parable Luke 16:19-28 about the rich man in hell/Lazarus
I like divergent but had no idea this song inspired the series. If that's true, in a way the Bible inspired divergent xD actually pretty awesome if so. (Lacey wrote this song based on a parable about a man dying and going to hell)
people bash Christians all the time for "hiding" from their problems with God, but we face our battles everyday with the devil and as long as we have Jesus we friggin win!!!!!
ok 1 I've never ever heard of the book called divergent. and 2 can someone please explain to me what this song is about?....... It's a simple question please do not comment how's stupid I am for not knowing okay?
I love this Video. What a Beautiful depictions of the death of Christ, and the battle over life and death. The song is Beautiful too. Memento mori in Latin means Remember the Death.
This song misinterprets the story of Lazarus and the Rich man. Abraham didn't say "the chasm isn't fixed", he said "A chasm has been fixed so that none may cross".
No, it doesn't. The chasm was fixed 'cause the rich man was already dead. It's not fixed for us. If we're alive, we're still able to choose between life and death.
***** Apparently you've never seen Lacy explain the meaning of this song. If you did, you would understand my comment. This is what she is saying with this song. She has misinterpreted that passage.
who cares...Jesus said I am the Way, The Truth and The Life...everything else is cursory....it is great to study and learn about Scripture, but it is not worth a classless argument.....it is a journey and only God sees through the glass clearly
after all this years i finally understand this song..but i still don't know the connection of the music video, but i now understand what Lacey was trying to say in her lyrics..it's the "Parable of the rich man and Lazarus" can't explain everything here but if your interested to understand the song, it is found in Luke 16.19-31.."if your reading this, then the CHASM isn't fixed yet" it means u still have the chance to choose heaven or hell..cause once were dead, the CHASM is FIXED..Godbless
Isn't a pagan a person that worships the earth? Wow if it is your worshipping God but only a fraction of who he is.. Why don't you go all the way and accept his Son.. Jesus.. I will tell you from personal experience if you give him your all your life will be deep with meaning.. I mean it's like a world opens up inside you and you can walk around and take power from him and accomplish things with A spiritual Godly power.. There is a cost however and the cost is where most people do not go any further.. If you do however wow.. It can get crazy in a good way
sellinmcgellin peopple pushing that on me is the reason i dont believe in him so please think before you try and push it on people i dont push my beliefs on you. if u believe in heaven n hell thats one thing, and i believe thats where youas an individual will go; however i am not a believer in them so i dont think i will go there.
