It's 2024. I have the old wood rail frame in a box which I bought at a Guild auction. The directions are on VHS tape, so I'm glad to find this video! Can't wait to get started using it.
I'm watching 7 years later and I'm wondering how I never heard of this delightful contraption. I repeat the same thing as most or even all of the rest of us in that this is amazing for those of us that don't have space or even the money to purchase fancier machines
Another 8 year later watch. I am so excited. 2023 is the year of quilting for me. There's no way I'm getting a long arm in the next 20 years. I just bought my kit online and I'm looking forward to finding the bits to put together.
@@danielbecker9836 I think you might be right. I have the frame kit, but didn’t put it together and bought a different one because it just was too big and heavy
I think your machine is wonderful i can't believe there'an affordable way for the average woman or man to quilt without having to spend a fortune I love it
It is awesome that you have made a quilt frame for people who haven't the money for an expensive one! I also love your designs, and I especially love the Dresden Plate Quilt at the end of the video. Thank you for the wonderful video and all the tips!
This was the most relaxing and perfectly detailed video I’ve ever watched! I adore Angela Walters designs n vids, but this is a different, soothing and wonderful show! 👍🏼
Just got mine ...It took me about 1 hrs to put it together and load my first piece.. Wow it works!!!! Awesome This man is a genius! Thank you I give this a 10 out of 10
I do sewing projects and machine embroidery currently, but when I venture into quilting THIS frame will be the one to get! I like that it can be disassembled and stored compactly verses needing an entire room for a quilt frame! John Flynn is a genius!😁
You make this look so easy. I am using pool noodles and adapting as needed. I can upgrade later if I need more strength. Can't wait to show my mom, 92 years old. Making my present quilt is for a friend with terminal cancer. I am making it in 3 sections, they will be basted together so her family will each be able to have a bed shawl of 58 x 36 inches. Will not make another so long. When you design on the go you work out the details for next time. Quilted my first stitches at age 5 1/2 years old, mom left the stitches in, 56 years ago. Long before my sister's. Thank you so much! I will likely watch repeatedly. You calmness is encouraging with the relaxing music. I will play some good music while quilting.
from Gerry- I just received my frame and 72" rods. I will put it together this afternoon- 8 years after your video! I will write back in a few days to let you know how it all goes. This is a great video and easy to understand. Thanks and God bless.
I’m self-taught and started because of Covid shutdown. I found your device yesterday doing a Google search, and ordered one! I can’t wait to start using it next weekend!
Thank you, John, for one of the best tutorials on quilting that I've seen on RU-vid. It was a joy to watch, start to finish. Your affordable product, which I've purchased, is within reach of the common person. Thank you for that! Can't wait to open the box and get to quilting. Also, thank you for all the simple tips and tricks you give in your Tutorial. God bless you!
John, there are so many copy-cat versions of your idea, but not one is a good as yours. You actually use it and have worked out all the "glitches". I have greatly benefited from this video. I bought the original frame 10 years ago but never had a chance to use it. Now I am raring to go! Thank you!
I've only just come across this (Sep 2021) and really hope these are still available, as I don't imagine I would ever be able to afford even the least expensive table longarm (currently ~£5,000). This is a really great idea and the fact that I can use my domestic sewing machine with it makes it so affordable -- thank you John Flynn!
Lucky me I just purchased one at my GoodWill for only an unbelievable $9.98. I new what it was and felt like I won the lottery. Sorry I know you are jealous. Thank you John for this video now I'm off and running.
I am amazed at how I watched the video and completed it easily. I give you praise for such an excellent presentation. Next completing my quilt. Thank you.
I want to thank you for adding so much information to this I have had your frame for many years but was never really able to use it, as no space and worked to many hours to be able to do other then work and sleep! It didn't come with a CD when I got it.. But I have already sold another one for you as I showed my sister this and she has ordered one and we will be using them both as soon as she gets hers. And if I have my way a few of my other sisters will also be using them too so with having 3-4 sisters that also quilt I am sure there will be more! Again Thank you!! I WILL BE BACK!!
John thank you for investing your time and energy in making this quilting frame. I am a quilter and decided to do a large quilt this past weekend! I am very pleased with my results. Now I don't have to wait 3 months and pay lots of $$ for a quilt to get done.
Thank you for this video. So much information! I would have never thought of a giant cross stitch type frame for quilting 😊 Love the music and your voice, very soothing.
The Palmer Method for quilting! I love it, great suggestion! My mother taught me the Palmer Method as they weren't using it in schools anymore when I was there. Anyone else remember learning to write like that?
I totally enjoyed watching you, and enjoyed the music too. I have never done free style, but now I understand it better. Thankyou for sharing your craf ft
What a wonderful invention...looks so easy to work with. It's good to see a man quilting, too, btw. My son took quilting in high school as his elective and the teacher praised him as the best student she had that year! I was so proud of him, he had no sewing knowledge at all before this class. The project was a log cabin quilt..we went together and he chose all Hallowe'en fabrics. The woman at the fabric store apparently didn't approve of males quilting and told him his choices were terrible and wouldn't work (her exact words! I was shocked at her attitude!) I nested of arguing with her, we took our material and left. After the quilt was finished, the teacher asked if she could keep it to display in class and use as a sample for future students..my son said thank you, but no as he was giving it to me. I brought the quilt into the fabric store to show that saleswoman, she was speechless. I felt that was the best way to settle her, it did. I don't think she'll criticize young men in the future for wanting to sew!
Thank you for demo. Very interesting set up for using a sewing machine and larger quilts. I see several ways it can be purchased and the uses. Very handy. You do very nice work. I Love it.
Thank-you for this step-by-step! I just started using your product, and I'm thrilled to be learning to stipple. Next...flora and fauna? Lol...Thanks again from Florida
I saw this demo at Quilt show this year at Paducah, I could not remember name and just found your video. I will be getting one. Will be perfect for what I do. Thanks for your genius!
Wonderful tutorial! I have been thinking about getting one of your frames and I really enjoyed this tutorial. Also, The music is lovely! The song playing in the part of the video where you are putting the wooden pieces on the machine to quilt straight lines reminds me of music that my Father used to play on the guitar. He was a wonder musician and I remember him playing in the background when I was doing my homework.
Thanks for this wonderful video and for coming up with and sharing your frame. The music is also wonderful and takes some of the sting out of not having my festivals this summer. Looking forward to many happy practice hours.
I am mesmerized by your video, your story, your creation, and your soothing knowledge, a pure joy. I don't think I'll ever make a pattern as beautiful as yours and others on RU-vid. Thank you
Thank you for such an informative and interesting video. I want one of these quilt frames and the stand. I will be ordering one in April. As I am on a fixed income I have to wait for it a few weeks longer than I would like to. Thank you again for this video and the frame. I am new to quilting and I am trying to find a way to quilt my first one myself. :-)
Good morning. Thank you for sharing such a fabulous way to machine quilt. Wow I want this. Also the music was amazingly relaxing. I ears enjoyed it very much. Have a great day everyone.
Thank you so much for such a wonderful system It assembled easily. The only thing I would change are those ribbons, they fray so easily. I changed them for better material. The DVD was a no go. My computer nor my external burner/player would read it. As I learn things more visually, thank goodness your video is on RU-vid.
John, thank you for all the time you invested in this frame and sharing your work. We are blessed by your inventive contributions to quilting! I am a newby for sure but I can plainly see that this is genius:) I'm glad I discovered you here.
It's soooo great. Such a great idea! Giving your quilt away for quilting, it will cost you so much money! By the way, your quilttop is a great colour mixing for "storm at the sea". Thanks a lot for this great idea!
This is an awesome invention that I just happened to come across today by accident in a magazine called Nancy's Notions that got sent in the mail as part of some mailing list freebie or something. I just bought it on amazon a few hours ago and it's already on its way! I'm so excited I can't wait! I've only ever stitched in the ditch for every quilt I've made (mostly wall/lap sized quilts) but I really wanted to free motion quilt the wall sized one I finished and I even made my own template/stencil for a free motion design I wanted to use but I had no way of being able to do it with my home machine very easily given the size of it. Now I can and I won't have to pay someone else to do it like I thought I might. This is awesome because I have the fabric and pattern to make a bed quilt (my own version of the poppy panache pattern using less expensive fabric for the design) but I've been holding off making it until I could finish the wall quilt first and figure out the exact size of my future bed it will go on. Now I can finally start it, soo exciting! Thanks!
starfishgurl1984, how is the quilt frame working for you? I am considering getting one, but I have a sit-down quilting machine, so I would not have the frame on the red roller. It would have to sit directly on the table top. Do you think it would glide around like that? I hope that makes sense.
just came across your video after seeing your frame on Amazon. It is an amazing creation as I am an older sewer who is new to quilting. (actually I am fearful to add quilting given the amount of fabric to cover and mistakes to fix should the fabric bunch up underneath). However I can clearly see what a difference this frame would make to the domestic sewing machine user to be able to tackle the quilting. Well done.
John, My 🐎, my HORSE!! I met you in a Paducah Quilt show years ago. It was the first time I had tried quilting of any type. I sat down at your system and promptly sewed out a horse with its mane blowing in the wind. I was delighted at the ease in which your system worked, especially for a beginner! I have wanted one of your frames ever since. Of course, my sense of vanity makes me wonder if I sparked the idea for the horse and other animals in your video!! I THINK I also drew out a chicken and a pig, but am not positive. The horse, however, I remember distinctly.I plan to order one of your frames next week. First, however, I have a couple of questions. Can you also use a walking foot with the frame? What about a ruler foot and the Westalee rulers? Sincerely, Ellen Novicky
thanks for sharing. My son is currently studying civil engineering at University. this is a genuinely money saving creation. love your work. thanks from darwin nt Australia.
Thanks much for the video. I really need to be able to follow visual instructions that I can stop and repeat. Only made a couple of mistakes but was able to go back to correct them. First time quilting anything other than pillow covers.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video - so mesmerizing, perfect music choice! Would love to find the CDs for background music while my homeschoolers do their work :) Just ordered a new machine so I can get back to quilting (my other 2 aren't working well anymore - a vintage Kenmore that was my grandmothers, and a newer, but cheap, Janome) - really excited to try out some fancier patterns with it!
This is GREAT! What a fantastic idea! I REALLY want one but I'm in the UK & they don't seem to be available on Amazon. I shall search elsewhere but prefer Amazon. Your watch is very nice, very unusual, especially for a man. Great vid, great instructions. Thanks x
John, an idea for you..... How about inventing 2 roll clips that would clip onto the quilt roll as your thumb and index do. Add a vertical bar to that clip that can be grasped with a fisted grip hold. This would be ergonomic. I have thumb issues. The clip would have to be adjustable like a clamp because the fabric roll on the back(nearest your body) gets smaller as you unroll the quilt.
Accents and Designs has a clear ruler foot that works great with my Bernina 1130. I love the frames. I bought mine many years ago. I have the square rods.
John, thank you for such an informative video. I was looking for a video to teach about quilt frames. I love it. Hopefully there is info in the comments on how to order. My only question is are there instructions on how to handle quilts that are wider than 24".
I was able to buy one of your quilt frames through a local quilting group. I am looking forward to using it, been busy as it is gardening season too. I am still trying to learn free motion quilting, so hoping I will do better at that soon, or can I use a walkingn foot with it?
This is one great idea! I just have one question...would it work, that instead of the roller pipes at the bottom, to just attach height adjustable roller wheels to the top 2 corners?
Thank you John , I'm going to buy a quilting frame. But I only have a Kenmore home machine to use with it . Will it be a k to use? I will have to set down because I will still have to use the peddle to make it sew.
Good day Mr. Flynn. Thank you for your tutorial However, just one question. You tack the backing onto roller A and C. This i understand because the back in 1 inch bigger than the pieced top. However you also tack the pieced top onto roller B leader. Then you get to the length end of the quilt do you unpick this 1 inch and carry on quilting? Do you keep this taut with the side clips only? Regards ColleenMc
According to your video it comes with all the tubes but when I went to the web site it does not come with any tubs. Can you tell what does the kit come with and also you also have it with wood frames. Can you tell me all the kits prices and what does it include?
I'm considering purchasing this.. checked Amazon and they do not have this NEW IMPROVED MULTI-FRAME. Their description says their's will accommodate 38" quilt.. Nancy's Notion's one is larger. Overall it looks like the same price. with shipping at Nancy's and none at Amazon.
