I’m so glad I came across your video!! I was getting frustrated with my 509 tactical because of this. I used to have the same issue with my 19x as well until I changed the trigger. That different trigger can make a world of difference in your shot placement/accuracy
I just ordered my first fully custom gun from Danger Close Armament. FN509 Tactical will come with the Apex trigger and barrel. Love FN firearms. This will be my 6th FN 😊
This review is timely as I am sending my 509 Tactical to Apex today to have this trigger installed. It appears to have improved a great deal compared to the original. Thanks.
Installed my trigger about 3 weeks back all in all a vast improvement, I agreed with the reset spring a little to soft.. I would say I was a little disapointed with the take up Apex did shorten it some but was hoping for more.. after watching several other videos while apart I polished the safety plunger and firing pin along with the trigger bar where it slides/rides between the slide release, much smoother now.. thanks as always
Cool video, man! I have had a disappointing with FN to the point where I sold the gun within a week of buying it (FNX-9). It was a bummer too because it had allot of features that I look for in a defense gun. But I may have to give this one a shot, people seem to like it and that Apex trigger looks pretty sweet.
Been a FN fan, my whole life, got my 509 T, this trigger is shit, bought the Apex striker, just ordered the M Carbo springs, but the fact that, I have correct this trigger makes my next purchase the PDP PRO, FN, lost me, I am very sad, this product has High Point quality, in the trigger, department...
Just got my locking block pin out with no cracking thank God lol. Used a punch slightly smaller in diameter and a bench block with a blue paper towel over it folded in 2 under the parts with gaps to have some thing the frame would rest tight on and I easily knocked the pin around in a circle with a punch that is tapered and probably 4 mm long till it came loose some then I used a longer punch doing light hits till it came out and was so relieved once it was halfway out with no problem. My apex trigger should be here by Wednesday or so.
Hey you finally got it! You know I’ve 650 rounds through my 509, and from day 1 till now I haven’t had any grit or drag in my trigger at all. In fact after round # 600 I’d compare my trigger to the one on my P10c. I’m carrying it now in fact, and even dry firing it it’s just a smooth pull and a clean crisp break! I’m glad the Apex trigger has made your 509 tactical more enjoyable to shoot, I know you *really* wanted it to be better 😉 I look forward to your Apex video! Oh great job on the install by the way.....the Apex gunsmith in the installation video even said the install was tougher than normal!!
To be honest, I’ve had it for quite a while and am late getting the vid out. Kind of glad I did though so it gave me more excuses to shoot with it, lol! That’s great to hear that yours is completely smooth. Mine’s almost there but not quite. Yeah, the install was not the easiest but their vids really helped. Thank you as always and cheers Kratos!
Oh please, you were enjoying shooting it......nothing wrong with that. There’s no time limit when we go to the range for Ballistic Therapy! Doesn’t it feel good to improve/upgrade your own guns, and not have to spend an arm & a leg paying a gunsmith?? Have a great weekend!
@@KSGunGuy01 honestly thank you...for taking the time the efford i love your reviews and every sigle input i taking it for my next purchased.. Thank you brother 💪🍺 🍻
I just bought FN 509 Tactical and it comes with Apex trigger installed in it already so did fn start putting these trigger in these handgun from factory ??
I have a fns 9c which was gritty to start with but smoothed out beautifully after a 1000 dry fires and 300 +/- rnds. Someone described it as river rock smooth and i agree. It may still be more than 5 lbs but feels perfect in timed or tatical drills.
The 509c's triggers aren't bad, but the 509tac's triggers are terrible, tons of crunchy mush before the wall. And hard to predict wher the wall is. I have both and night and day difference between the C and tac.
I shot this pistol with the apex trigger last weekend. The break and reset were awesome (durring dry fire) . This trigger and others like it that have the 90 degree bump out on the bottom of it sting my trigger finger under recoil. It was pretty painfull after 100 rounds. 😕
That’s awesome Shawn! I agree about the break and reset. Apex definitely figured out how to find the sweet spot. As for the bump, I get a little bit of a blister with the Glock triggers but I consider it a small price to pay for better shootability. That said, if it’s really painful, might not be the right setup or some adjusting of the finger placement may help. P10Cs give me a bite like that so I totally understand. Thank you and cheers!
right there with you on having a strong return spring, I don't want to feel like I have to use my finger muscle back out to let it reset, but just don't pull as tight, this way you are only using one muscle / tendon for rapid fire vs. engaging the opposite muscle to reset
Great video. Thank you. How much of a pain was the pin removal? I'm beating the crap out of mine and it won't move more than 1/8". I can move it back and forth (beating it), and I'm removing it right to left as Apex describes. Also, the trigger pin pulled out from left to right without much work at all.
Just a question i always pondered, why do we put target triggers in a combat gun? Why not just buy a target gun. Are we becoming such trigger snobs that we cant pull a simple trigger anymore? Understress you and i will be slapping the hell out of that trigger. I dont care if someone changes their trigger but it just feels that we as men need to lighten a trigger on a combat gun. I leave triggers stock on all my guns, beretta, fnh, walther, glock and hk. If a 5-8 pound ttrigger is to heavy,i have more pressing problems to deal with.
I would argue that the Apex trigger is for both “duty” and target. I do agree that under stress, none of this really matter as you’ll be beating the hell out of it. That said, when we have time to ponder how triggers feel, why not make any and all improvements possible. This also translates into a better shooting experience for most. There are many who do this and many who leave their triggers stock as well. It’s a personal choice and I’m glad we have the options. Thank you and cheers!
FN 509 or 509 tactical ???? This is the question I have. In your opinion is the tactical worth the $300 difference? Definitely a fan of the Apex trigger.
Great question! If you want the threaded barrel, raised sights, and optics mounts, then yes... totally worth it. It’s the whole package! I agree about the trigger too. It’s exactly what the gun needed. Thank you and cheers!
I may be the only one who doesn’t have any issues with the stock trigger on the 509. I purchased both the original and the tactical models late last year. I have run about 600 rounds through both. I love the triggers. Crisp break, no grit, short, fast reset. Maybe they started putting apex triggers in them at the factory?
You post this as I'm heading out the door for a gunshow! It will still be there. Last time at this show I picked up a model 12 in 410 (like new). Looking for that 28 ga. still.
Missed Wednesdays live stream :( Was in Montana. My Brother in Law had the Hot's for a Colt Defender. Being the nice guy that I am ) I bought his M&P Pro Series which only had about 200 rounds thru it. I got a $400 M&P Pro series, he was able to get his Colt Defender.
My review of the FNS9 would be titled “If I Could Only Reach The Trigger”. If I could have, I’d still have it. The grip was huge on that thing and, as usual, changing the backstrap was an exercise in futility. I was jazzed when the 509 came out but couldn’t detect much difference when I finally held one. It doesn’t appear so but wonder if you detect any difference in trigger reach with the Apex trigger installed. Thanks!
Which Spring do you prefer to run in the 509 Tac? I just got mine about a month ago and I love it, but I've only got about 400 rounds through it with the stock spring.
KS, keep the informational videos coming. I do have this firearm minus the 24 round mags here in NJ. Not NJ compliant. Love the idea of the Apex trigger but where did you get the FDE Olight? I cant find them
Will do John! It’s a bummer you can’t have the 24 round mags. The Olight was part of one of those flash sales they have all the time. They called it a “special release” but I am sure they will do it again. Thank you and cheers!
Def on my wish list. Only thing is the rounded trigger guard. I tend to use the guard and I prefer the flat so my finger doesn't slide off during recoil. Would this be an issue with the 509?
That’s awesome! As for the guard, I don’t have a lot of experience using that method but I think you should still be able to use it. You might want to handle one in a store to see how it grips for you. Thank you and cheers!
Realizing the age of this post, I've only got a couple issues. Just ordered my durable striker from Apex because my firing pin simply disappeared. Additionally, for a weapon of FN's quality, I would think their trigger would already act close to the Apex. That's what I get for thinking, a fucking headache. Shaking my head ruefully.
KSGunGuy I got that trigger installed and it was easygoing for me! I must have had a lucky go of it! I used the armor block from Apex and it made for a solid foundation glad I decided to get it! Thanks again!
Hey man I have a 509 tactical as well and just recently got the apex trigger. I live in Olathe and need a gunsmith to put that trigger in for me. Do you know of any reputable Smith that would do it? Nolan at Centerfire won't do it, neither will Harrisonst pawn and gun.
@@KSGunGuy01 I talked to Ken at Simmons gun repair and sales today. He said he's done several and will do mine, so I left it with him. Should be done in a few weeks due to the number of guns ahead of me they are working on.
I noticed I have to wait for the reset as well which is a bit distracting. FN makes great firearms but they have alot of small parts and a bitch to modify. I'm spoiled with a 5 minute glock trigger change. Otherwise the 509 Tactical is good so far after the first 300 rounds. I might learn to live with the stock trigger.
What is your thoughts of the apex triggers vs the overwatch precision triggers? I know they are both very much alike in terms of not defeating safeties and so on
Good info... I I am still considering getting an Apex Trigger for my M&P 2.0. The factory one didn't always reset at all, and after sending a gun back to Smith & Wesson it seems to be working
Thank you Alaskan! I highly recommend it for the Smith. It truly changes the feel and the gun goes from good to top of the heap. Keep me posted if you run one. Cheers brother!
I think there is a typo in your title...”FN 59” 😉 I do not have any experience with Apex triggers but from the reviews I’ve watched of yours I may have to put one in my Glock and see how it helps. It looks like it really helped that 509 out, Looks like a nice crisp break. I wonder what you could do to make it give you a more positive reset?
Good catch and fixed! Thanks for looking out for me brother. I have to say, give an Apex a try. You won’t be sorry. I’ve got that If I Could Only Have One coming up which hopefully will help highlight some of the different triggers they have including on Glocks. As for the reset, it really needs a stronger return spring. That would dial it right in. Thank you and cheers!
"If I could only have one." I do...the Apex flatty, I mean, on my M&P 2.0 and absolutely love it! Although, FN are great guns, In fact, this should have been the Army's choice, I never saw a need for one. They just seem like bulkier versions of my M&Ps. I know, there was connection to S&W sometime ago, but not exactly sure what. KS, do you see any difference with this trigger and the flatty we both have on our M&Ps? It looks like the reset on the FN might not be quite as good, but only by a hair. FYI for All: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3IkraTtkmTo.html
It’s tough to beat the M&P flatty, Mean. They are amazing! I do think there are differences which I’ll cover in the If I Could Only Have One. Thank you and cheers!
Great question on the reset Shaun! I am doing some research on that and will update you if I find something reputable. Aside from that, the Apex really made it a winner. Thank you and cheers brother!
I had a short conversation with a guy on IG the other day about how he should put a gray guns trigger in his P320 and not an apex. That’s the rule, if you get a sig, you go with gray guns! Apex I’m sure is fine, but I’m not sure why their triggers are so ugly?! Something like a trigger, specifically on this 509 shouldn’t have such an awful visual appearance. This is hideous!!
Dam the Tac509 Trigger SUX!!!!!! For a $900 plus handgun tou would expect Better... Canik,Cz,Glock have waaay Better stock triggers, and waay cheaper. Killin me Smalls
Jose *What do you mean sucks?* It's not a 1911 but neither is the Apex : *I put an apex in Mine and quite frankly decided to take it out and sell it used* Mine is black So maybe Apex did something to improve it some since the Initial release. I really like this trigger : It's definitely not a fussy trigger as to wear your finger rests : *I sure didn't notice the advertised 2 lb difference* installing the Apex : Also I didn't find reset was shorten or take up. So maybe I got a really good one. Or FN improved it some >
@@cramerlong2276 Ok the Stock trigger On my Tac is Gritty and Heavy. Compare to other pistols I have the Tacis by far the Worst. I haven't Purchased the Apex trigger nor do I intend on buying it. Its expensive enough as is, they should have had a great trigger in from the Start. Everything else in the Gun is great
@@jeremys8360 no I know exactly how much those things are. But I don’t spend $1000 on handguns when I can buy $400-500 ones which are as good as the FN509. You’re buying a name... canik Tp9sf is a great pistol and I bought it for $375 it has a great trigger. Czp09 another great pistol I bought it for $497. Zigana Px9 $329-340 another great pistol it came with 3 18 round mec-gar magazines and a holster. A lot of people buy into the hype like glock, FN, h&k and other brands when there are others who make quality guns
@@BlackHornetTactical I got an fn 509c tactical because it was available. I wanted a sig p320 x compact but it doesn’t exist right now in the real world. I love the 509. Grips fit me perfectly, comes with a 12, 15, and 24 round mag, trijicon suppressor height tridium night sights, and it’s reliable. Fits my needs
@@jeremys8360 dont get me wrong the FN509 is a good gun. But have you heard of the iwi Masada comes ready for rmr sights and it’s anywhere from $380-440 all I’m saying is there’s a lot of different options for half the price
