Excellent gun has all the assesories you would probably put on the gun, but the best feature is that it’s ambi and being left handed it’s a big plus. The only real complaint I would have is the trigger, but hopefully with use the trigger will relax itself.
I picked up mine last March (2020). The 509 Tactical with Vortex Venom with the same kit you have (only in black vs FDE @ $899).. When I bought mine, FNH had a special running where I received a Streamlight TLR-7A FREE. Great deal and the dealer had received it the night prior (yup, only had 1 in stock and I snagged it). Right place at the Right time.. Great review!
So I live in Illinois and wasn’t even able to buy the tactical version of the 509 because of the threaded barrel. Glad to see that you were able to get it.
I just bought one as well. I carried Glocks my entire LE career, so I still like them. And I love my HK’s as well, but this 509T is sweet! It’s the only pistol I own with an optic. I put a delta point pro NV on mine. Haven’t shot it much, so we will see. The only downside so far with the FN, is the poorly designed striker which many people have had issues with. I called FN about it and they said if it breaks, I can send it to them and they will replace it and they went on to say that many people have done that. This is odd to me, because it sounds like an issue that needs fixed-like a new design and a recall to fix it. So I bought the apex heavy duty striker and installed it. Other than that, it’s sweet!
I’ve owned many many handguns. From high end 1911s to Glocks to sig, etc. This is my favorite I’ve ever owned. If I could only keep one handgun this is the one. I think you hit nail on the head regarding the trigger criticisms. It was made to be a combat weapon. The trigger is not the best, and you describe it well. Bottom line is despite its flaws it is incredibly accurate. Shooting from a bench at 15 yards I can consistently print 5 round 1/4 inch groups. In terms of reliability, I’ve never had any malfunctions or failures. I’m not an FN fanboy, in fact it’s the only FN I’ve ever owned. The fact is, FN has been making weapons for militaries around the world for decades. When they design/produce a combat weapon you can count on it being just that. And the FN 509 Tactical continues to deliver on that legacy. I hope I never need to use it in defense, however, I know if I ever do it will serve its purpose every time the trigger is pulled. And as you mentioned, it provides the capacity to allow you to pull it more than enough to defend oneself before running empty. Oh yeah, lastly, people criticize the price tag…. Look, do the math, it’s a deal when you consider the cost of adding all the upgrades built into this firearm right out of the factory.
I bought one in black for my first pistol! I get to pick it up on the 25th. I'm so excited!!! I have the apex trigger and striker to put in it and I have a holosun 507c to put in it.
I finally broke down n got me one and I feel like it’s the best I carry the Glock as edc cause I rather that one to be taken if I ever had to use it in a situation
To elaborate more, your thumb would be riding along side of the mag release button, but slightly on top. You'd need to literally use your other hand to press your thumb firmly up against the button for it to release. Otherwise, you'd need to turn your thumb inward and push the button with the actual tip of your thumb, as usual, to have enough leverage to fully engaged it. I hope that makes sense, but yeah - rest assured it won't happen by mistake on either side of the pistol.
@@EchoDelta2A I meant an accidental discharge because it appeared that your gun may have been loaded but I hope you do get monetized because your video was informative
Lol. I never chamber a round on any gun in my possession, except for the one near my bedside. And they are checked before the video anyway and just in case. I promise 😁
I also got rid of that stupid large hump backstrap. I was kind of upset with the grip angle and finding I had to buy a special punch to remove it. Got that over with and now I love it
@@EchoDelta2A quick question, how about the meta apex chassis for Glocks, smith and Wesson, sig with 16” barrel and stock. Can we buy it in Illinois? Just curious, thanks brother.
As far as I know, they are legal because they are not considered a firearm or assault weapon accessory. The only thing that may complicate that is whether the barrels that they come are threaded or not.
