The Daily Shooter Want to prefer it even more? You might try putting in a flat, 90° break X-Carry/Compact trigger in. Available at the Sig Store. I realize it’s a subjective result but I put them in all my P320’s and love them! If you’ve ever shot an X-series you’ll know if it’s right for you.
I'm sort of considering selling my kimber 1911 ultra carry 2 crimson trace to get the money to buy a 509 tac but it almost makes cry to think I might sell it because it was my first fire arm but if I sell it I might get enough out of it that it would fully cover the cost of the 5o9
The O-ring is built into the cap on the FN 509, thus is probably why it didn't fall off while you shot it. Mine has never came unscrewed, so seems to be a good design. 👍
The FN comes stock with everything you would probably put on a weapon. Sights are receiver height sight’s to co witness with an optic, weapon is optics ready and a threaded barrel for a compensator or a suppressor and 3 mags. Everything that you have stock on the FN are accessories for the Sig which translates to extra $$$$ spent.
I have/had very close models to both of these. I wanted to love my FNS9 but I just couldn’t reach the trigger effectively (weird DNA trick: size L hand, size S trigger finger). Picked up a 509 when it came out but the problem persisted so FN is out for me. Sig’s P320 is a different story. More comfortable grip and I can reach the trigger on all the variants. My Full Size is really just the black version of this M17 and it’s a very sweet shooter. More pleasant feel, overall, that the FN. Tip for ANY P320 owner: Sig now offers the flat, 90° trigger that is used on their X-Carry/Compact pistols and putting these in any P320 is the best single mod you can do to them. On sale for Black Friday at the Sig Store!
You said the military was looking for a more modular gun so they chose the Sig over the FN which is by far more modular with the backstrap replacement, the threaded barrel, and the optics mount the fits a ton of different optics. Yeah seems like the military wanted a more modular price, not a more modular gun. Also the FN has an O ring inside the cap for the threaded barrel.
I had a FN 509 but sold it along with my Glock 19 after i got a Sig 17 and got 1,000 flawless rounds through it... It still has not had any malfunctions and i like the trigger better.. I think my next purchase will be a Sig 365 Nice video
Get the Sig if you are in the market. M17, M18 or a different P320 variant. I have both and regret the FN purchase. Wish I would have just gotten another Sig. If you are set on the FN 509T, go somewhere and actually get some trigger pulls in. Mine had the worst trigger I have ever felt. Even after polishing and playing with springs it was still junk. Went with the Apex trigger and heavy duty striker and that made it SOOOOOOOOOO much better. ~$200 needed to upgrade an already expensive pistol so I don't feel like punching babies every time I pull the trigger.
Love the FN 509T, but the mags are HELLA expensive and the trigger is terrible out of the box. Also, be careful dry firing the FN 509 cause they have had some issues with broken firing pins, and I have replaced mine once since I purchased it.
@@coryernsberger61 I finally did buy their striker, cause I broke 2 factory strikers and have come to the conclusion that I'm either very unlucky or they are making a terrible striker! The trigger has gotten better over time, but I may attempt to change it out at a later date. 👍
You left out the fact that the only guns that passed the military's 2000 round test were the glock and sig. 2000 rounds with two or less malfunctions is the testing standard used.
I have both. They’re absolutely fantastic. If my M17 was factory cut for RMR instead of DeltaPoint and had a threaded barrel it might well be the perfect pistol.
P320 compact in 40 s&w and 357 sig for me love the both i trying to move away from 9mm so i choose this 2 calibers and I'm happy with both even my wife enjoy shooting my 2 new guns
What Made me choose is the m17 now sells for about 600 and the fn tactical model sells for over 1k after tax and both have the same general features . I really wanted the fn though but the dig still works for me
I have to admit, I went a little crazy, too, after leaving The Democratic People’s Republic of California to move to a Free State. Sorry, ST, it’s just so liberating.
Have handled both and own an FN, was really unimpressed by the Sig. For a military armorer standpoint I get the total modularity of the parts and appreciate it a lot, but I feel like it's a worse modular system than the Beretta APX. The APX does the same thing, has a better trigger, and has a more sensible grip system where you have one type of frame with multiple grip inserts to customize the feel. The Sig, and correct me if I'm wrong, but each frame is it's own thing, there's no customizing the frame and then you're stuck with the logistics of having to keep multiple big frame sizes on hand for troops to customize (theoretically). Why Sig went this way instead of being like everyone else where the gun ships with 3 or 4 grip panels that will accommodate 99% of shooters is beyond me, and then the P320 feels barely any better than a Glock. Between the M9A3, APX, 509, M&P, Glock and P320, I choose the P320 last.
Make sure you are careful with what ammo you feed your FN 509c MRD with. Bought mine last month, 2 weeks later took it to the firing range for the first time and the frame/handle cracked. Sent it to FN and they said "sorry for your luck, must have been your ammo, warranty denied." Was shooting factory federal HST 9mm +P's and it was evidently too much for it. Wont sell me a replacement frame etc, its either buy a new gun or nothing. Retired LE after 35 years. Was using duty ammo that my glock 17 had no problem with. Totally disgusted with the company. Really really wanted to like this gun and maybe I just got a fluke but after this I will never buy another FN.
I have both problem solved I got the Fn because it came with everything I got it 765 out the door brand new. I didn’t wanna buy a plate adapter for my sig m18 and a treaded barrel
Awesome video bro! I have the M9A3 which I really love, and I recently bought the P320 M17 and the FN tactical. I haven’t shot those two yet but I will soon. Which one is your favorite?
The Daily Shooter awesome, thanks for you input. Im gonna have to agree with you on that , the Sig’s grip does feel a little better. We’ll see next weekend when I take them to the desert.
It was budget that won this gun for the defense contract The FN was the hands down winner but replacing parts and fire control group along with 350ish price tag per a pistol versus 550-600ish fn but fn built a pistol for everything right out the gate with grip and police and SF in mind (barrel length for detectives and airforce etc) threaded SF ranger and seals marsoc etc Sig built the weapon to be bought for each group which the military screwed up on Because they are already loosing sight plates and screws and soldiers modding the grips down to slapping duck tape on the grips because once sweaty worst grips in my life
Changing out the Sig curved trigger for the Sig flat trigger is absolutely worth the $50 price tag. The trigger pull is crisper and follow up shot are much faster. If you get the M17 or the M18 replace the curved trigger with the float trigger. You will be very happy you did.
If it's true that the 509's "Revised/New Striker" STILL will break if you dry fire it, that is a huge drawback and no clue why FB would make a Striker so poorly.... Glad I read this in the comments to avoid eyeing this expensive, yet cool pistol. Seriously, what company revises their firing pin and it STILL cannot be dry fired without it breaking after a few mags? Smh
The 509 is just a much better value. Sure uts expensive but you get things that other handguns dont have. You get the threaded barrel, the trijicon irons, a wide array of mounting plates for optics and no need to drill and tap, 3 mags(two of which are 24 round). Military definitely shouldve adopted it over the sig.
had both only have one now and its the sig hope that says enough for people tryna make the decision. save urself the $400 and get a sig theres way more value there
You didn't point out the additional recoil Spring. Ones for with the suppressor the otherr for without. You will have failures to Feeding you have the wrong spring in.
I actually just picked mine up last night but they changed things up and no longer comes with a third magazine nor does it come with the 21 lb spring if you wanted to run a suppressor. So now it just comes with the 17 and 24 round magazine and the two back straps which isn't a deal-breaker but having extra mags always is a plus
509 has an issue with the strikers breaking. You should not dry fire it at all. Many upgrade it to an Apex milled striker. Also the trigger feels really gritty at first. Theres a few places you can polish that make it feel smooth and crisp/100% better.
@@Barter709 the gun cannot be dry fired. Dry firing it can damage the striker. As far as the striker issue mine was purchased much after the supposed issue and it broke after the first 100 rnds.
M17 is my home defense gun 365 my CCW I love sig now coming from former Glock guy sig is def the better gun to me.. my sig m17 came with 1 17 round and the 2 21 round mag in the case plus manual safety
My m17 trigger after thousands of rds is amazing. I would never change it, the break, reset my finger has become one with the trigger lol. No joking its awesome, xfive flat trigger is nice n half the weight in pull but i just dont like it as much.
what if there is a oderless gas that can be released that will melt these plastic guns making them useless. falling apart in peoples hands, i know for a fact that certain chemicals in my shop will do that to plastics and even cause almost instant corrosion on metals. and you will not even smell it. you should see what the new non flammable brake cleaner does to certain types of metals 10 feet away from where your cleaning off new brake rotors. the harbor freight machete will turn white
If a firearm is non compliant they won't want it brought into their shop. Only exception maybe if you have it disassembled but I think your going to have to do some research and figure out what changes need to be made and do it on your own.
509 tactical comes with 2 mags now. Idk why they stopped shipping with 3. But its sucka that they did that. Was expecting 2 24s n only got 1. But got some on the way now.
@@darylragland1502 yea, I guess I was a week late bc the week before we bought a 509 tactical and that one came with the 3 mags. But I'm happy with what I got. ✌🏼
FN firing pins have been breaking around 1,000rnds pretty consistently...something to consider. Neighbor is on his 3 one and still won't sell the damn thing.
I wonder if he can find a titanium firing pin , that would solve his problem I have a couple thousand rounds through my fnx happy I haven’t ran into that problem . Hope he finds a solution
P320M17 is the bomb, 6k+^ n only 1 failure, at comp. i changed spring to 13lbs with diff ammo n i believe a dbl feed. Get the oversized slide catch lever if u have the safety. I believe the newer ones coming with 21rd mags now. I saw that twice recently, n they were doin promos to get 2 21rdrs n bag or something.
He’s not giving correct information on the “ACTUAL” Civilian M17 from Sig…. The real Civilian M17 from Sig comes with 2 21 round and 1 !7 round magazines!!! Just thought I’d let people know who are really interested in the real M17 from Sig for the civilian market. And, you can buy full sized threaded barrels directly from Sig for the M17. Thanx for reading…
I got to say the FN is the better choice not only does it have better options it also shoots better than my M18 so I sold my Sig and got the hammer fired FN x sorry all you sig fans out there it’s shit but at least the P229 was good!🤯🔫💣
@Frank Deckard if you like dealing with safties get a 1911, but if you don't like safeties get the 20 and buy a after market barrel if you are going to fire full power loads.
